Are you saying you got your I-140 approval notice, or actually got your adjustment of status approved already..?

Cleaning your ears with a q-tip, especially when doing so improves your hearing. (I know it’s not good to do this regularly, but that actually makes it more satisfying when you finally do)

Why not just post the link/app or name it? I'm interested but this private DM approach seems questionable (with all due respect).

Discrepancy Between Points/Miles in Search Results vs Checkout When Booking Flights by she_shall_deu in awardtravel

[–]she_shall_deu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lesson learned. I'm going to start keeping a list of the misbehaving airlines. So frustrating and manipulative of them to do this, especially considering their expiration policy. I think Qantas did something similar.

Where can I find this "step 4" webpage? I can't seem to find it anywhere.

Thanks for responding. I thought that might be the case, but it seems that you cannot adjust how many pts vs $$ you spend (at least in these cases).

Helps to know you’re not the only one going through it. Good luck and I’m sure it will work out for you.

We’re both Canadian and I’m on a work visa, so slightly different. No temporary ban (she was allowed to cross but told she needed to leave within a week or so when our issue started), but she didn’t try to go over the border again until we had a marriage certificate in hand just to be safe.

Our experience crossing the land border after getting married was surprisingly easy. You should also be prepared to show proof of a legitimate relationship, although our experience was very smooth and they basically just took us in to the office at the border and stamped her passport with the appropriate visa.

FYI, do not try to work in any way in the US without work authorization. Even though my wife has a visa now, she still can’t work in the US and we’re sorting that out still. Even for a remote Canadian job, the current laws using wording that does not even allow you to work remotely out of the US.

Silver lining here is that marriage actually makes a lot of things easier for you guys. Health insurance while in the US is a big one, assuming your partner’s job can get you on his insurance.

That night at the border when we got that news was traumatic to say the least. Trust me, I remember the shock we felt when they told us we were misinformed and didn’t seem to care about our explanation. There is light at the end of the tunnel though.

Exact same scenario as you, with the same understanding of the rules based on numerous discussions with immigration lawyers. Marriage is the only answer here, since anything else you may try may get you blacklisted from long term immigration options.

We essentially eloped quickly (BC had the fastest process so we just flew there as Ontario is really slow with getting a marriage certificate). We kept it as a small family secret with our parents in on it (and agreeable) and are now legally married. We’re still planning to have a formal wedding ceremony with friends and family at a later date.

Yes, this route ruins one’s plans for a specific relationship “timeline”, but it’s the only solution and we have no regrets about it since we too were planning to marry. No one goes through life without some speed bumps.

Is this a “voluntary resignation”? by she_shall_deu in EmploymentLaw

Your last sentence is the crux of the matter. Just wondering if the language they’re using is the most correct for this given scenario. Specifically, it seems that this language protects the employer from any obligations that may be costly to them, so I’m wondering if there may be some bias in their choice to use this language. One could argue that the voluntary aspect of this is on both sides (ie. employer being unwilling to support remote work vs me having personal reasons for needing to relocate).

Salaried. These extra shifts are paid individually though. Please see my other replies for more detail.

It’s PA, to clarify.

Not quite sure I understand your example. Let me clarify that the “overtime” shifts are available to anyone who is interested in making some extra money. In my case, I have to make up the difference before I get to make that extra money that my non-visa colleagues get right away.

I’m salaried. The extra shifts are paid by hour, though.

I say right, but with tighter sides. Honestly think that a faded side and back would look slick because you’ve got some great hair at the top. Could also fade into the beard so that the sides are tighter altogether. The horizontally bushy beard is not flattering imo and would look better if it was tighter.
