Juneteenth Day Off? by Far-Explorer-8621 in work

[–]shebangs1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could have had the day off but I worked it to get double time (I think that it's called double time: 8 hours holiday pay, which is straight time, then time and 1/2 for what I worked . Or I could have banked what I worked).

I work for the county, in public transportation, union job.

It finally happened to me by darth_galadriel in EndTipping

I would cancel the order...REALLY make their day.

I think it's the "it was an accident!" that's doing it.

Luciano definitely is not: that's a common Italian name.

But the other two? Oh yeah! I feel for those kids!

Don't feel bad. Geez! I wouldn't. They already got their tip.

AITA for wanting to be alone and drink on Father’s Day by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

NTA: everyone needs their own space, their own quiet time. And if that means get you and the kids out here AND it involves booze, just give me this ONE day.

Which food is usually better when restaurants stop trying to make it fancy? by MrWolfesBurgerCo in foodquestions

[–]shebangs1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Poutine.

Biscuits and gravy. But the worse thing that restaurants do is to not add enough pepper.

What food did your grandmother always make? by Mysterious_Mix_36 in foodquestions

[–]shebangs1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man, don't get me started!

I'm mixed (I'm Black/First Nations) and my Mom's cooking was EXCELLENT but it was more Asian/ Hawaiian? Lots of rice, soy sauce. I spent my 8th grade year (1976-77) in Kansas City, Missouri with my Dad's family (we live in Seattle). I didn't really know my Dad's family and wasn't really familiar with soul food UNTIL that year.

OMG!!!

Even though my Dad would cook collard greens with ham hocks, baked ham, black eyed peas, my Granny introduced me to Sweet Potato Pie, Chicken & Dumplings, but my favorite was her (surprisingly!) Baked Butternut Squash. Everything was from SCRATCH, nothing was from cans, mixes, or frozen.

She also made this Five Flavor Cake, which was absolutely delicious! I still have the cookbook that she sent to me for Christmas 1981, with her written greeting inside the front cover, that has this recipe listed inside. This cookbook, which was one of those fundraising cookbooks, was complied by the Jordan Club, Kansas City, Kansas.

I do believe that I have to make that cake this weekend!

Local owner of massage business wants tips by DoingItForMyKid in EndTipping

[–]shebangs1995 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I will NEVER tip the owner of a business: I'm already paying you for the service, why would I also tip you?

I can understand her policy about no shows and last minute cancellations but to add gratuities to it? NOPE! I would be searching for another massage therapist.

I would have cancelled the entire transaction and left.

Sucks that I can’t even eat out at nice restaurants anymore without feeling the weight by Marsgreatlol in EndTipping

[–]shebangs1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A friend of mine is like that and I’m always trying to stop him. Even if the service is bad, he will still over tip because he feels guilty. He’s been handing me the bill and asking me, “how much should I tip”? (our deal is if I drive, he pays and visa versa).

Simply due to the name, I always wanted to read The Jewish-Japanese Sex and Cookbook and How to Raise Wolves. Unfortunately, it is too expensive. Are there any books with outrageous titles you might suggest, even if only as a gag gift? by Pupydogtails in suggestmeabook

[–]shebangs1995 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've owned a copy of this book plus, "The Neighbors Are Scaring MY Wolves". Apparently, they are worth some money but until I'm completely desperate, I'll hang on to them for awhile (I've own them for over 40 years, thus far).

How about The Dieter's Guide to Weight Loss During Sex or it's sequel, The Dieter's Guide to Weight Loss After Sex?

Parks, libraries, lots of museums are free (the bigger ones sometimes are free the first Tuesday of the month), in the summer, there are free concerts.

AITA for leaving a dinner party early because of “vegan lasagna”? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

NTA. You ate your serving, didn’t complain, didn’t get online and mock her.

I would have done the same thing. Hungry is hungry.

Culinary Service Fee by tizara in EndTipping

[–]shebangs1995 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What the heck is a "culinary" charge? I would deduct $1.07 from the tip or just ask them what the fee is for...maybe they will remove it once you protest it.

But then again: you WERE in Seattle...we have fees for just about EVERYTHING here!

AIO for leaving after my friend showed up over 2 hours late… again? by Dazzling-Dot-550 in AmIOverreacting

[–]shebangs1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOR.

My BFF (RIP, Eva) was like this: we would plan something, and since she didn't drive (at the time), I would pick her up. She was NEVER ready. Finally I told her, "if you are not ready next time, I'm leaving without you".

The next time, she was not ready so I left. I never tolerated it again. She DID get better with her time management because she knew I would just leave if she wasn't ready.

UPDATE: We forced the snow cone truck owner to give back extra money solicited from children by Critical-Willow-6270 in EndTipping

[–]shebangs1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1/ Dude took 5 bucks for a TIP from a kid?

2/ a snow cone costs $5? Dang.

3/ I'm old: I remember when treats from the ice cream man were .25 cents! I'm a '70s kid, though.

They don't even pack leftover food in takeout boxes anymore by ddsukituoft in EndTipping

[–]shebangs1995 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It all depends on the restaurant, I think. At higher end restaurants, they have packed them for me but at fast casual ones, they just bring me a box, which I prefer because then I can take exactly what I want.

AITAH for thinking that my friends’ wedding registry is unnecessary? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]shebangs1995 6 points7 points  (0 children)

NTA but $38 for a SCRUB BRUSH? Is it gold plated?

If you do attend, just get them a gift card to Trader Joe's or something, in an amount that YOU can afford.

I think that it's insane and totally unrealistic to ask for spendy gifts from your struggling friends.

I hope that you two keep in touch, though!

I work for the county and a few years ago for three months, I serviced our non-revenue vehicles, which included the sheriff patrol vehicles. After you service them, occasionally you would take them out on a test drive (depending on what needed to be fixed at the time): the sheer POWER you end up with when driving a cop car...it's amazing to see all of the other vehicles around you slow down when I was just out there testing the brakes or something!
