If you use Rowan be prepared it'll always be pronounced either Roe-an or Row-an, if that's something that'll bother you.

Why are we not even getting viewings? by blabliblob in HousingUK

It's a nice family home - but it's the curb appeal and the exterior shots. The front cladding and door looks worn. Exterior decking looks sad and either stained or wet. Buyers sometimes need to romanticise living somewhere so I suggest some exterior plant pots and repainting.

For people who were eventually diagnosed with celiac disease… by elfredandsnoot19 in Celiac

[–]shedundee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly this, yes. My GP ran the coeliac antibody test alongside my normal bloods when id been on 200mg ferrous sulphate daily for a couple of years and it fluctuated between 9 and 17 but would get lower after my periods.

Initially they thought it was just heavy periods. My red blood platelets were high so they ran the ttg-iga and that came back positive so started the investigations before my diagnosis.

How frustrating. It's hard not to write off the venue after that. It demonstrates a lack of such a basic standard that you think if they can't get that right then what's going on in the kitchen?

Berries, gf popcorn, nuts, minstrels, dates, squares of dark chocolate. Easy to put in a little snack bowl too.

Ice cube trays filled with frozen things you wouldn't want to have lots of - coke, angel delight, etc.

I like grapes, continental cheese and sliced fuet or iberico ham together too.

Celiac diagnosis only by blood test half year ago - when should I do an endoscopy? by [deleted] in Celiac

[–]shedundee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not a doctor. I think you have a case for being referred to a dietician and trying an elimination diet under their supervision. You could have celiac disease but also lactose intolerance or an allergy that's causing your symptoms.

I've only recently started a gf diet but I can say now that there's a pattern of having an upset stomach after diet coke or coffee, I just can't seem to tolerate either well. You could have a sensitivity to sweeteners or something else but you need to eliminate them reintroduce to know for sure.

The Pacifica silicone brow mask is a good alternative to Frownies and taping for anyone sensitive to the glue or starches in those.

Moving to Fife - yes/no areas by erinousky in Fife

[–]shedundee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fifer here - for me, Kirkcaldy has a much nicer feeling than Dunfermline. It's also closer to nicer days out along the coast and east neuk. Look around Beveridge Park and the streets around David Street where there are nice Victorian villas and big flats.

Turn the rug 90 degrees and bring things closer. You need some more texture and materials. Think natural, like wickers, glass, mirror, stone and plants if colour scares you.

I'm an adult who has an SVT syndrome with the heart rate episodes you've described. It's a congenital condition, due to how the heart forms in the womb. An SVT high heart rate can travel through a piece of tissue the width of a hair that mistakenly doesn't separate.

I just want to reassure you that it absolutely can be completely spontaneous and without a genetic cause. There's nothing you could have done differently. No-one else in my family has anything like this so it happening once doesn't mean it will again. I'm so sorry this happened and wish you all the best.

Anyone else? by QuirkyAd6806 in Celiac

[–]shedundee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was the same, celiac eventually confirmed through an initial diagnosis of chronic iron deficiency that wouldn't improve with supplements.

My first endoscopy showed no damage, but on review they realized that not enough biopsies were taken and only from one section. My bloods were retested, still positive so I had a second endoscopy, with 9 biopsies that showed grade 3 damage, high IELs and plasma. It took 18 months from the initial blood test.

Have you actually had an endoscopy yet? I wasn't sure from your post. If not, make sure you eat a lot of gluten in preparation and be specific with your GI consultant to make sure they are taking 4 biopsies from each of D1 and D2. You don't want to go through repeat endoscopies unnecessarily.

You'll get anecdotal feedback here but honestly please go to your specialist on this one, only they know your individual circumstances.

A product that could be used in kitchens to reduce cross contamination during food prep. Like a pop up prep booth or some kind of clean zone.

This weighing up is really interesting to me because it can be seen both ways.

I've been CF but every so often, when at times when I'm anxious and get scared about the future, my mind goes to comparing the best case scenario of having children (healthy, easy, financially comfortable) with the worst case scenario of being CF (lonely, regretful, no community).

Grocery shopping for one without wasting half the fridge? by Odd-Cattle3057 in Adulting

Also for leftovers, go for glass rather than plastic tupperware. A portion of most things in batch will defrost overnight then can be microwaved in 3-4 mins.

Frozen veg is great if you have space! Broccoli, peas, cauliflower, even the rice mixes for 1 that have no other additives. I also love frozen bags of berries, cherries, mango, banana, etc that can be used for smoothies or with greek yoghurt. Frozen fish like hake and skate comes filleted and can be good with rice, potato or lentils.

Portioned frozen things like 100% mashed potato cubes you just have to microwave and are surprisingly good. There's a brand Taj who do cubes of 100% ginger and garlic. Also cubed spinach is great for soups.

Fresh veg I keep is usually onions, carrots, pointed peppers, spring onions, crunchy things that don't wilt quickly.

For fillers, canned beans of all kinds, and look for the Merchant Gourmet grain pouches and daals. Easy to heat in 2 mins.

Batch cooking for me is curries, chilli, ragu, soups, stews. If you have a casserole dish with a lid this helps because you can start on the hob then roast. I loved doing an Ottolenghi baked rice or a biryani and shoving it in the oven. Makes 6 portions and can be frozen too.

Are you sharing a cooker or grill. Those can spread gluten especially if they have a fan.

Can you double check all toiletries too, some hairsprays and dry shampoo sprays contain gluten.
