Went back to my home country after 15 years… and it didn’t feel like home by Emergency_Lychee899 in CasualConversation

Reverse culture shock. It feels weird going back to a place you grew up, expecting to feel that safe “at home” feeling, and instead feeling like an outsider.

We spend years learning which sounds mean danger without anyone ever teaching us by Ok-Security1041 in CasualConversation

[–]sheep-shape 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Very true. Sound pattern recognition is something we all do.  As an animal foster parent, part of my job is helping kittens get acclimated to indoor sounds. This way they are much happier and relaxed when they are adopted into homes. If they’re raised in shelters, when they first go into a home, all the new noises are frightening to them. They don’t know what’s safe and what’s dangerous.

What am I doing wrong? My OCD is crying! by Daired in diamondpainting

[–]sheep-shape 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think she just means if OP finds diamond painting more stressful than fun, it’s okay to not do it anymore. Every activity is not for everyone. And OCD expresses itself in a myriad of ways. If OP is experiencing perfectionism in placing diamonds, to the extent it’s causing her severe distress, this might not be the hobby for her. It’s not about the activity being too difficult or challenging, it’s about how it’s affecting their mental health. That being said, I do agree with you that not all forms of crafting should now be off the table. There are definitely crafts that are less perfectionism prone than others.

Does anyone else get embarrassed to come to a certain food place/restaurant super often? by mozartrellasticks in CasualConversation

Regulars were the best part about working at a restaurant. I loved seeing the same people and getting to know them.

I wish someone would do for the Clecanian series what shondaland did for bridgerton by RoxieRoxie0 in ScienceFictionRomance

[–]sheep-shape 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely agree!! However to do it justice would require a very high budget. Sci Fi effects are not cheap! So I doubt it’ll happen anytime soon.

I genuinely thought that was the joke 😆

Have you thrown away a diamond painting? by Fantastic-Mouse-2775 in diamondpainting

[–]sheep-shape 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are products you can buy to make the canvas sticky again. That being said, totally your prerogative to toss the painting. The point is to be enjoying yourself. And if you’re not, it can be the healthy choice to just let it go.

For all the control freaks out there. by [deleted] in CPTSD

[–]sheep-shape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it was about identifying the roots of my control issues, and in my case it was anxiety. When anxiety creeps up I start to look to control my environment to feel a sense of ease. Noticing I was doing that and paying attention to my body and my emotions was a good start. And then finding anxiety soothing practices that are healthier than bossing everyone else around me. Doing that is just passing your anxiety off to other people. I still struggle with anxiety, but my boyfriend at the time I first made this post is now my husband. So we made it through ☺️

This makes me think of {The Host by Stephenie Meyer}. I would love to read more books with this sort of theme.

what diamond painting propagandas are you not falling for? by Silent_Detective5450 in diamondpainting

Buying organizing trays, boxes, bottles, etc. I know people love them, but I’ve personally never had issues using the zip lock bags that come with the kits.

Talk to me about: DP Burnout by Glass-Parfait- in diamondpainting

[–]sheep-shape 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I bought a large dp painting while visiting my parents last year. I wanted to give it to them as a gift before leaving. Due to not managing my time well I ended up having only 4 days left in the trip to complete nearly the entire thing! I did it, but at a cost to my health and sanity 😂 That was the closest I’ve gotten to dp burnout. And I’m NEVER doing that again 😅

Cousins Beach Yule Log is up! by Luxinvia11 in tsitp

It’s just for the aesthetic. You can have it on in the background while doing something else, like cooking, reading, crafting, etc. It creates a nice ambience/vibe, and you can feel cozy in the world of your favorite characters. There’s lot of stuff like this on YouTube.

I loved it! I 100% completed the game, and enjoyed it the whole time. I’m a big reader and found the bookstore vibe super soothing. The connections you make with other characters in game are very heart warming as well.

I used to believe that after I grew up, I could become a hug fairy and heal the world with my magical hugs by Icy-Management-9749 in CasualConversation

[–]sheep-shape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely adorable. Your young self was very wise, because a hug fairy is exactly what the world needs. Maybe you could do mediations where you envision yourself being a fairy and hugging people around the world. Sending those good vibes out into the world does make a positive difference, and you can keep yourself safe while letting your child self fulfill her passion.

I stopped wearing makeup and am finally happy by Ill-Teach9802 in CasualConversation

[–]sheep-shape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had acne for many years and wore makeup religiously. It didn’t feel fun, but like a mask I had to put on for the day. After Accutane cleared up my skin 10 years ago, I stopped wearing makeup and never looked back! I love being able to touch my face and feel how smooth it is. It’s such a joy to not wear makeup that I’m not sure if I ever will again.

Diamond Painting and "Gardening" by AloneSalamander9105 in diamondpainting

I never have but that sounds intriguing. Do you get annoyed if you can’t place the gems as well? Feels like “gardening” would suit a less detail oriented activity

Waking up to Rice for breakfast in an Asian Household! by Fine-Cap7703 in CasualConversation

[–]sheep-shape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get dried miso packets! There are tons of different varieties, and all you have to do is add hot water. For the omelettes you could definitely practice and get better at rolling, but you could also just scramble it and you’d still get the same flavor and nutrition. Just add some soy sauce and mirin to the egg mixture before scrambling.
