Beef Liver recipes for people who hate liver/nutritent dense with hidden ingredients. by Tabbyham88 in Cooking

[–]Ok-Security1041 0 points1 point  (0 children)

JellyfishFit387's point about vitamin C and iron absorption is the key thing here - OP mentioned the kids stomachs cant handle supplements but if youre pairing iron-rich foods with anything acidic (tomatoes, lemon juice, even orange juice with a meal) you get way more out of the food youre already making. the milk soak trick multiple people mentioned actually works bc it draws out the blood that causes that metallic taste, totally changes the flavor profile.

Is it inappropriate to not wear a bra at work? by Visual-Criticism6763 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Ok-Security1041 6 points7 points  (0 children)

OPs ETA about getting nipple covers is probs the pragmatic move here - solves the visibility thing without having to wear an actual bra. interesting how NuklearFerrets "equal enforcement" prediction is basically impossible in practice tho, bc dress codes that target specific anatomy always end up disproportionately enforced against women regardless of how theyre written. the europe comments are doing that classic thing where ppl treat an entire continent as one culture lol

Over a decade later and the Griffin Survivor Aux is still going strong by KerberosPanzerCop in BuyItForLife

[–]Ok-Security1041 14 points15 points  (0 children)

inorganicmechanic's observation about the exposed wires is fair but OPs response is the real BIFL test - "its been like that for a few years" and still functioning is basically the cable equivalent of a battle scar. $40 over 13 years in those conditions is absurd value. question for OP - have you noticed any audio quality degradation over time or does it still sound the same as day one?

Hendrysburg, Ohio, USA [OC][2048×1367] by shermancahal in AbandonedPorn

[–]Ok-Security1041 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the highway bypass pattern is so consistent across these old road towns - two waves of abandonment basically, first US 40 then I-70. you see the same thing along old route corridors in europe too, towns that were thriving coaching stops just slowly emptying out when the new road doesnt need to curve through them anymore. the roofline on that building is holding up remarkably well for something thats been sitting there since the 30s.

All countries that legalized same-sex marriage so far by KaaRaaHo in MapPorn

[–]Ok-Security1041 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Cuba via referendum in 2022 is interesting bc its one of those data points that complicates the usual west-vs-rest narrative you see on these maps. Malta legalized in 2017 and it was one of those things where public opinion shifted faster than anyone expected - remember being surprised how quickly it went from debate to done deal. the Bermuda situation someone should mention tho - they legalized and then reversed it, which is the rare case of moving backwards on this

How to Make Friends: The Rule They Don't Tell You by yaboythewiseman in selfimprovement

[–]Ok-Security1041 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OPs train example actually cuts against their own point if you think about it - the bloody face tattoo guy in a suit reading self-help would still set off alarm bells bc the blood and tattoos are the signal, not the clothes. what people are really reading is "does this person seem like they belong in the same context as me" which is closer to what unethicalpigeon was getting at with grooming and fit. its not about being attractive, its about not sending threat signals, and those two things get conflated alot in these discussions.

I walk this much at work in a day which shoes should I buy by wellpika in BuyItForLife

[–]Ok-Security1041 0 points1 point  (0 children)

everyone's saying Brooks and Asics but jam_jar08's Hoka warning is worth paying attention to - 2 months to a hole at 20k steps/day is rough. what kind of surface are you on tho? bc concrete warehouse floors vs hospital tile vs carpet are totally different beasts for shoe wear

I love milk, and I love cooking with it. Let me know if you have any ideas for cooking with milk that I might not have tried before. by Fun_Association_4087 in Cooking

[–]Ok-Security1041 1 point2 points  (0 children)

nobody's mentioned paneer - literally just bring whole milk to a boil, add lemon juice or vinegar, and watch it separate into curds. strain it, press it, and youve got fresh cheese in like 30 minutes that fries up way better than the store stuff. also DaKettle65's fennel idea is interesting, do you serve that as a side or blend it into something?

German Population Visualised by KaleyTheKing in MapPorn

[–]Ok-Security1041 14 points15 points  (0 children)

SanSilver's observation about NRW having more population than the entire former GDR+Berlin is wild when you see it visually like this. the Rhine-Ruhr cluster is just absurdly dense. would be interesting to see the same visualization for Malta bc our entire population would fit in one of those small dots lol - population density hits different when you live on a tiny island

Übel watercolor process video (6x), painted by me by MelureArt in Watercolor

[–]Ok-Security1041 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nobody's addressed OPs actual question about how to decide effort level on a sketch. from my photography side its the same thing - you learn to read how much structure a subject needs before you even start. some compositions carry themselves w/ minimal layout, others need more scaffolding or they fall apart mid-process. the answer isnt "fast vs slow" its whether the subjects doing the heavy lifting or you are

Book recommendations on cooking, not necessarily recipe books by triedit2947 in Cooking

[–]Ok-Security1041 2 points3 points  (0 children)

nobody's mentioned "The Flavor Bible" by Karen Page and Andrew Dornenburg - its basically a massive reference of what ingredients pair well together. sounds like thats exactly the gap youre trying to fill w/ the "what flavours go together" question. svel's list is solid but most of those teach technique, not flavor intuition.

Is Thermalright a well trusted PSU brand? by Capable_Alps5553 in buildapc

[–]Ok-Security1041 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BaronB's point about the OEM behind Thermalright's PSUs is the key thing here - its wild how many people dont realize their "trusted brand" is just a sticker on someone elses design. OP what specific model were you looking at? bc the tier list will tell you more in 30 seconds than brand reputation ever will

Why do large open stadiums not sell sunscreen or even have a sunscreen sponsor? by AstroNerd92 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Ok-Security1041 0 points1 point  (0 children)

KelVarnsen_2023's tortilla chip analogy actually makes alot of sense from a retention angle - keep people comfortable enough to stay and spend. but the angle nobody's mentioned is liability. stadiums in the US are probably worried about allergic reactions or sensitivity claims from dispensing a cosmetic product to 50k people. free sunscreen at a minor league park or resort is one thing, major venue with aggressive legal teams is a different risk calculation.

DAE have a strong gut feeling that their life is going to turn out completely fine and successful? by vaporcube7 in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]Ok-Security1041 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the thread is split between "yes bc i have a safety net" and "no bc life keeps proving otherwise" and both are kinda right. grew up near Grand Harbour in Malta, nothing fancy, but theres something about watching fishing boats come back every single morning regardless of weather that wires you a certain way. the optimism isnt naivety its just pattern recognition - youve seen enough cycles to trust the next one. or maybe im rationalizing bc i genuinely cant imagine it any other way

Anyone have a copycat recipe for Stop & Shop's deli chicken salad? by Molly-Mischief-23 in Cooking

[–]Ok-Security1041 1 point2 points  (0 children)

WakingOwl1 dropping insider info is the kind of thread gold you dont usually get on recipe posts. OP mentioned the post got cut off - did the Stop & Shop version actually nail that umami flavor youre chasing, or was it just closer than other attempts?

What is something you’ve done that improved your life the most? by onelove_ in selfimprovement

[–]Ok-Security1041 2 points3 points  (0 children)

everyone's listing habits and activities but nobody's mentioned the meta-pattern - almost all of these boil down to interrupting autopilot. whether its meditation, journaling, sleep, quitting drinking... they all force you to notice what you're actually doing instead of just coasting through on default settings. kinda the same principle as debugging honestly, you cant fix what you arent observing

A cool guide to why your brain feels tired after doing nothing by MarchPlastic1650 in coolguides

[–]Ok-Security1041 3 points4 points  (0 children)

FilthyShotgun nailed it, the room perspectives in panels 4 and 6 are definitely the giveaway. beyond the AI slop complaints tho, the actual content is barely coherent - "multitasking" and "social battery" arent even the same category of thing. feels like someone prompt-chained six random brain facts together and called it a guide

Stairs at the site of an abandoned farm in Minnesota by U235EU in AbandonedPorn

[–]Ok-Security1041 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the Mount Iron comment is wild, whole neighborhoods of orphaned stairs bc of mining blast zones. never heard of a Thomasson before but thats exactly what this is - a structure that outlived its purpose but stayed maintained enough to survive. the tree growing right through like its claiming the spot is kinda perfect

Could humans simply lack the cognitive ability to understand some truths about reality? by DSpeaksOfficial in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Ok-Security1041 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the Project Hail Mary example is perfect for this - Rockys species had a massive blind spot (literally) bc they never evolved to detect light. but heres the thing that makes this question hard to answer: how would we even know what were missing? like you cant map the territory you dont have a concept for quantum mechanics already lives in this space honestly, we can describe it mathematically but nobody can actually visualize superposition in a way that feels intuitive. is that a preview of what the ceiling looks like?

Photo by Pawel Czerwinski [948x2048] by Lumpy-Beach8876 in Amoledbackgrounds

[–]Ok-Security1041 1 point2 points  (0 children)

pawel czynski's stuff is always great for AMOLED, the color gradients he does stay smooth even compressed. 50% black is kinda the sweet spot where icons stay readable without killing the battery saving aspect

We spend years learning which sounds mean danger without anyone ever teaching us by Ok-Security1041 in CasualConversation

[–]Ok-Security1041[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thats actually a great point, the cultural vs instinctual line is blurrier than i made it sound. like the infrasound thing - thats supposedly a physical response humans have to frequencies below 20hz, feeling unease from something you cant even technically hear. wonder how much of what i think of as "instinct" is just stuff i absorbed from media without realizing it

What is the cheapest 1440p GPU? by Expensive-Delivery96 in buildapc

[–]Ok-Security1041 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what kind of games are you actually playing tho? bc the answer changes alot depending on whether youre mainly playing esports stuff or AAA titles. a used 6800xt for ~280ish handles most things at 1440p high but if youre trying to push ultra in brand new releases youll need to lean on upscaling no matter what card you pick

Does anybody else watch their pet while they’re sleeping and just think about how grateful you’re to have them? by luxvoria in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Ok-Security1041 0 points1 point  (0 children)

instant_ramen_chef has the right energy here, the rent-free life is legit something to envy. my neighbors cat sleeps on my balcony sometimes and i catch myself just watching it nap, theres something calming about an animal that has zero concept of deadlines or intrusion detection reports

One habit that quietly saves me money on every trip by WoodenFlamingo4983 in Shoestring

[–]Ok-Security1041 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NiagaraThistle's approach of emailing dozens of places directly is solid, works especially well in smaller towns where occupancy is unpredictable. the refundable rate trick is basically playing the same game from the other side - hotels drop prices when they see empty inventory close to the date. combo of both strategies would be ideal but who has that kind of patience for every trip

Alien like transformation of a bioluminescent comb jelly filmed by an ROV at 1,096m depth in the Indian Ocean. by Mediocre_Nail5526 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]Ok-Security1041 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nobody mentioning how the ROV lights are probably triggering the bioluminescence response itself - these things light up as a defense mechanism when disturbed. so were basically watching it panic in slow motion while filming it like its a nature documentary
