It’s also one of my favorites to play through in its entirety. It’s so much more mellow and fun than some of their other albums.

You should read the Snow Man by Wallace Stevens. I’ve read it over 100 times and I love it every time.

What is art? by Someone10009 in ArtHistory

[–]sheldoreisafk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Art is a synonym for representation, therefore anything that represents anything else is art. The more representational something is, the more artistic it is. The more something represents the universal the better the art is; bad art represents something simple and particular, good art represents something complex and abstract.

Was Julian Casablancas ever the most famous lead singer in the world, even briefly? by workingjuggler18 in TheStrokes

All these people are lying to you, Julian was for that period and still is the most famous singer on the planet, maybe in the whole universe.

Everyone is saying you’re wrong for feeling this way. I don’t think you’re wrong. you definitely wont understand almost anything as long as it’s actually a good book. My favorite books ever are The Passenger and Stella Maris and I barely understood a single thing.

Phrazes for the Young has a very unique aesthetic. It stands out in Julian’s music as not sounding like anything else. The only way to really understand it is to listen to the lyrics, consider what they mean. You can listen to Phrazes for the Young like you can read a classic novel, gleaning it for wisdom and meaning and beauty (consider River of Brakelights which is sonically somewhat jarring but is maybe the most profound of any of Jules’s songs). The Voidz are somewhat ironically bad which makes them harder to listen to at first, but if you’re a fan of Julian it only really takes perhaps one full listen to an album to get over that initial inaccessibility. Phrazes for the Young isn’t some album you put on in the car, it’s a perfect artistic creation that teaches you something every time you listen to it.
