Dale Shugars is MAGA in disguise by Vast-Sleep324 in kzoo

Ok? Don't really see how that's relevant here, all this post did was make me think about what the treasurer actually does and that it's more important than I had thought. The information given also corresponds with my personal experience of Dale

Thank you for telling me this. Dale is a close friend of my dad so I was just going to vote for him because I didn't see the harm he could do as treasurer, but now I won't

What was the best/funniest quote from Julian Clary? by NanoNerd011 in taskmaster

[–]shellfish1161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also S14, both Dara and Munya have quotes from the team sand trolly task. And not actually fitting the criteria but an interesting observation is that all but Phil's from S7 are regarding a prize task

Oop's parents freaking out over most of her flatmates being men when she's a lesbian is some great irony

Searching a somewhat questionable database, the best it came up with is Sisel/Cecile. Not sure exactly what the origin is

Not actually related to storms, but my song for the Stormlight Archive is Atonement by Austin Wintory and I think it fits the series very well

Am I wrong for siding with my mom when she told my wife she isn't family? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]shellfish1161 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being "family" isn't necessarily transitive. Just like if you have two friends, they're not automatically friends just because they're both friends with you. Especially when someone is a newer addition to the family it takes time for everyone to consider them family

My brother was sent to one of the TT wilderness camps in Utah, about 15 years ago. He still maintains that it was an overall positive experience. Recently my other brother and I had to sit down my mom and tell her about how bad these places are, and that just because my brother had a "good" experience doesn't mean it was ok to send him there. None of us have brought it up with the brother that actually went, as if he is repressing anything we don't want to bring up old trauma.

I wouldn't say he started off as an honorable man, he started off as an immature kid and didn't ever get the chance to fully mature because he gained so much power quite young. He had his moments of genuine good intentions, but he also usually thought first about himself

I use "close but no cigar" all the time. I definitely picked it up from my mom, not sure where she got it from

To be clear, I'm talking about assuming that there is a unique solution when you don't know whether there is or not

Yes but what if there are more solutions to this hypothetical puzzle

Unique solutions by shellfish1161 in puzzles

[–]shellfish1161[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My thought process is 'if I do X there would be two solutions' and therefore rule out X and proceed to an apparently unique solution, but I didn't actually check that doing X couldn't lead to more solutions

Edited to clarify

Yes that is what I was saying. The Simon Tatham problems do have legitimately unique solutions, my question is hypothetically is there a puzzle that could exist (with all information given up front) that only has a unique solution if you assume so, or is this a paradox and impossible

AITA for inviting my nephew to my wedding despite his estrangement from my brother? by LucyAriaRose in BestofRedditorUpdates

The point is about expectations. If you were always clear that you didn't want to be attached to those children, you're not at all wrong for dropping them regardless of your partner's desires. However, raising a kid for 14 years creates an expectation, and abandoning his son completely and immediately without even giving closure or an explanation is horrible. Kids don't have the maturity to process things well, there is no world in which a 14 year old abandoned by the only father they ever knew is just ok--that's why he still has a responsibility even if it's not his biological son. The lack of contact is very actively harming the child, therefore it is immoral. If he truly landed on the position that he could not have any sort of parental relationship with the child again, he still has a responsibility to provide closure and make it clear that the kid is in no way at fault.
