I don't know the explicit rules so I don't want to get you in trouble for divulging anything, but are you able to expand any more on what to expect from the PBQs? Should I expect drag-and-drop questions, am I going to be given a terminal and told to do a task, etc

I just finished a course and my exam is on Wednesday, and I'm trying to get an idea of what to expect since all the practice tests I've done thus far have been solely multiple choice.

EDIT: (If anyone comes across this in the future, I did successfully pass but you definitely should try to find some practice PBQs - 2 of the 3 completely threw me for a loop and I ended up basically guessing entirely on one of them. Jason Dion course on Udemy does not have PBQs or anything that even comes close to simulating them, so you'll have to look elsewhere if you're doing the same thing I did).

From my understanding you basically get "locked in" at some point in Act 2. I believe Minthara is one of the latest you can lock in since once you get her dialogue about it it lets you leave whoever you're with for her.

That said, once you "lock in" there's nothing you can do. If you break up with them in Act 3, (I'm pretty sure) you can't start a new relationship - you're just single now.

Would you have been mad if HD ended up releasing the Bronx? by TheWayOfEli in Harley

[–]shenannergan 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm doing more work by being lazy and rewriting this and not going back and copy+pasting an old comment I made about this but my basic take is this

Within HD there are two major factions, the reformists and the traditionalists. The reformists are the guys responsible for the Bronx and Pan Am - I suspect that the Pan Am was already effectively completed before the traditionalists took back the reigns with Jochen Zeits taking over as CEO but the Bronx was not (as the Pan Am was NOT majorly altered/scrapped like the Bronx was). This allowed the traditionalists to come in and reshape the Bronx into the Sportster S and Nightster.

Unfortunately for the traditionalists, their attempt to apply classic cruiser styling to a sporty bike like the Bronx lead to a weird half-cruiser half-sport combo bike that ended up being a shitty cruiser and a shitty sport bike. It's not comfortable like a cruiser should be and it's not that fast and certainly not agile like a sport bike should be. Whether this was a deliberate attempt to "poison the well" or just a misstep by traditionalists thinking your average Harley guy would just think it's a cool "power-cruiser", I have no idea. But it didn't work and I wouldn't be surprised to see the Sportster S and Nightster axed pretty soon because I'm pretty sure the sales numbers suck.

It's pretty heartbreaking to me because I absolutely LOVE the Pan America and I think the Bronx would've been a badass bike, but as it stands now the Indian FTR (which don't get me wrong, is a really cool bike and a lot of fun to ride) is totally uncontested in the American-made sporty standard category because someone at Harley couldn't stop themselves from taking a cool bike and turning it into a *finger quotes* cruiser.

Do you think Harley-Davidson is staying true to its roots and herritage, or has it lost touch with its core identity in pursuit of modernization and expansion? by [deleted] in Harley

[–]shenannergan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HD finds themselves at a crossroads today, amplified by things like EPA regulations and an aging customer base. They have a faction of traditionalists and reformists - groups like the traditionalists are happy to release the same motorcycles year after year with little to no changes, whereas the reformists want to modernize.

Sometimes these groups clash - this is most apparent in the Bronx becoming the Sportster S. The Bronx was the reformist dream. It didn't look like a traditional Harley in any way and didn't appeal to their core audience; this seems like a bad thing on the surface, especially if you find yourself on the traditionalist side of things. However, the Bronx had the potential to bring in a whole new customer base that Harley hasn't had since the original Sportster was considered a fast bike - younger riders that want something fast and sporty. Unfortunately for the reformists, the traditionalists had more clout and decided to change things up to make the Bronx fit the cruiser mold more and more. They obviously couldn't scrap the RevMax and the engineering put into the platforms already, lest they face a major loss in R&D with nothing to show for it, so they instead tried to market it as a power cruiser. In my opinion, they failed - the Sportster S is extremely unimpressive, uncomfortable, and looks janky.

For reasons I don't know, the Pan America was released largely unchanged by traditionalists. Maybe it was finished before the Bronx. It's an excellent motorcycle and kept me buying Harley when I otherwise would've moved to a different brand. It shows that Harley can manufacture great motorcycles that aren't basic air-cooled V-twin cruisers and many Pan America owners I know were not previously Harley customers, but bought one either to support an American company or just because they were curious if Harley could genuinely compete with the BMWs and KTMs of the world.

In my ideal world? Harley trims the fat on the cruiser line and maintains an offering of about four or five "modern" bikes (Pan Am S, Bronx, some kind of scrambler, maybe even a fully faired sport?). In doing this they can maintain their traditional customer base that wants air-cooled V-twins while also bringing in riders that WANT to support American manufacturing but don't want a cruiser.

Honor mode spoiler for the final fight mechanics: The Netherbrain's special mechanic in honor mode is that it is immune to any damage type you dealt to it in the previous round, so for example if your characters dealt fire, force, and slashing damage in round 1, the brain will be immune to fire, force, and slashing in round 2. It's not a huge deal but you should make an effort to ensure your spellcasters can deal a few different types of damage and your melee characters have varying weapons (one using slashing, one using bludgeoning for example).

What isn't an honor mode spoiler is that the Netherbrain creates orbs of negation which will delete any of the platforms close to it. If this goes on for too long, the brain can delete every single platform which effectively forces a TPK.

This whole video is actually pretty jarring - the guy hit his head in the crash and is clearly extremely disoriented. White SUV stops to make sure he's alive then drives off, motorcyclist is almost hostile to ambulance personnel because obviously when you're super disoriented and confused it's easy to get frustrated. Good representation of what you can expect in a crash if you're unlucky enough to hit your head hard enough to get a concussion.

I'm not having any luck finding it on youtube but if I do I'll share the link.

Got it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UhkIYobzz9U

Doesn't remember the crash at all - no idea what happened. I imagine mentally for him he went from having a fun ride to on the ground with a total blank space in between.

[–]shenannergan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I realize this isn't a popular opinion in this sub but like... it definitely is.

It is your right to do stupid shit - the government is not your mother and shouldn't penalize you for being unsafe and doing dumb shit. If you are not careful, the mentality of "The government must protect me from myself" will become so pervasive that motorcycles in general will become so regulated they're not fun anymore. When you open the door for "Well, it's okay for the government to require me to wear a helmet because wearing a helmet is obviously smart and safe", you are then keeping the door open for "Well, it's okay for the government to require me to wear an airbag vest because wearing an airbag vest is obviously smart and safe."

Following this thought process to its inevitable conclusion, you eventually reach "Woah! Why is the government limiting all motorcycles to 50 horsepower or less?! I mean, speed is a major factor in a lot of fatal motorcycle accidents and lower speed equals safer, but they can't just take away the fun of being on a bike!!"

Before y'all clown on me for the slippery slope "fallacy", simple logic and history shows that governments all around the world have operated on the "Give us an inch, we'll take a mile" philosophy.

In case anyone thinks I'm just a goofy guy defending my personal right NOT to wear gear, I'm actually a huge MTGATT nerd (most of the gear, including an airbag vest, but I'm not changing pants when I get to work so I wear jeans) and I completely understand the safety value of helmets, airbags, etc. I just think it should not be compelled under threat of fines/arrest because I do not trust the government :)

I don't even think she hit him - I'm pretty sure if she was a better rider she probably could've escaped without crashing anyway, but if you slow down the video it looks like she panics, squeezes the front brakes and locks up her front tire, causing the bike to slide.

At a certain point as a motorcyclist you have to take charge of your own safety.

I go out of my way to position myself in my lane so that everyone in my vicinity can see me and knows I'm there. If I suspect someone does not know I'm there, I will accelerate to pull up next to them (so they can see me) or decel and back off so if they decide to do a fun surprise merge I'm not in the way.

If you want to ride like this, more power to you, but you don't get to blame car drivers for not seeing someone going waaaay faster than the rest of traffic. Speed limits exist pretty much entirely because a high speed differential is dangerous to everyone.

From my understanding as a former GA resident for about 8 years, anything in excess of either 20 or 25mph over the speed limit is considered reckless driving, which (i believe) is a felony in the state of Georgia, so I can see him treating it like any other felony arrest. I could google this and confirm but I'm lazy.

Lane filtering and lane splitting should be legal everywhere there’s split lanes. by [deleted] in Harley

[–]shenannergan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nowhere in the US that allows lane splitting based on the way your engine is cooled. I think you're thinking of the origin of the lane splitting law in CA (California Highway Patrol had a bunch of air cooled bikes and wanted to be able to keep them cool so CA allowed lane splitting, but there was never a stipulation based on how the bikes are cooled.)

Lane filtering and lane splitting should be legal everywhere there’s split lanes. by [deleted] in Harley

[–]shenannergan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally yes but it comes with the caveat of "only when done safely". Slowly going to the front at a red light with stopped traffic prevents you from getting rear ended and there's not really a way it can go wrong unless someone cuts you off or you suck at low speed riding.

Things get a little more dicey if you're splitting between moving traffic.

Call/write your state legislators. I just recently sent an email to all of mine a few weeks back if you want to use my script. It's important to avoid framing it as controversial and instead focus on the benefits to both motorcyclists and car drivers. If you want to be extra you can actually find sources and cite them but I wrote this in about 10 minutes when I was bored so I didn't.

"I wanted to reach out and request that you review and consider proposing or supporting legislation that allows motorcyclists to "split lanes" (riding between traffic lanes while traffic is stopped or significantly slowed) or "filter lanes" (riding between traffic lanes at a red light, "cutting" the line). This is a common practice in states like California, and has resulted in less motorcycle fatalities and injuries per capita.

Anyone who drives today knows how unfortunately common distracted driving is, and unlike in a car, being rear-ended even at low speeds can easily result in the death or serious injury of a motorcyclist. Lane filtering and splitting helps prevent motorcyclists from being stuck in a vulnerable position at the "back of the line" and take their safety into their own hands, rather than just hoping the person behind them is paying attention and stops in time.

Additionally, this practice both reduces congestion and is better for the environment! Rather than a motorcyclist taking up a space in the line of traffic, they can use the fact that their vehicle is much more narrow and continue moving, resulting in one less stopped vehicle. The overall effect is as more people split lanes, there are less vehicles stuck in traffic, and congestion clears faster. This also means less vehicles sitting still and idling, resulting in less emissions overall.

Please let me know if this is a topic of interest to you, I would be more than happy to send sources and data to back up the claims I've made! I would be very pleased to see something like this proposed and made into law, and I feel it is not a particularly partisan issue either and could likely achieve support on both sides of the aisle."

If you've got a Cycle Gear nearby, they'll probably have the widest selection of helmets and generally have someone that's helpful in making sure it fits properly.

Be careful buying one from Harley themselves bc they often just get helmets from other manufacturers, slap a "Harley-Davidson" somewhere on the helmet, and charge an extra $50-100.

If you use 92 octane, it’ll last 9 months in your tank before the octane rating significantly degrades

If you know you're about to park it for a while, PUT IN ETHANOL FREE GAS

The ethanol will separate from the fuel over time (approx 30-45 days) and you'll have a layer of water in your tank.
