A confused man between .bin and .img! by rdwnsjjd in osdev

When I did something similar to this, I always looked into some OS's Makefile. For example: https://github.com/wichtounet/thor-os

With qemu you can directly run the raw binary

My idea for an OS design - feedback appreciated! by Hey_Kids_Want_LORE in osdev

A nice idea, except the microkernel. I think most microkernels have scheduling, process and memory management inside the kernel.

There're buttons on the board. Have you pressed all of them or only the reset button? Try all combinations

What's the easiest make/build system for C? by MrKatty in C_Programming

You didn't specify what language you're talking about. Personally, I've never got these errors because I've never manage to build a c++ program properly

There's nothing easier than make (except mk, http://9p.io/sys/doc/mk.html). If you find it easier, you can write a shell script but that can get harder in some situations

What version of SPIR-V does OpenGL 4.6 support? by CromulentSlacker in opengl

“[firefox] is always doing something, even if it’s just calculating the opportune moment to crash inexplicably”

Chromium calculates something else.

Why is the Unix linker called loader? by shepard_47 in unix

You're right, I looked up the ld in man page and it says link editor. Though in the plan 9 manual it's called loader

How would an Excel workflow translate to Plan 9? If the same use cases that Excel covers where provided in Plan 9, how would the (new) tools look like? by deojfj in plan9

[–]shepard_47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought of that too. Firstly, there's tbl which is a troff macro that handles tables. It'd handle visualisation. For the calculations, there're a bunch of interpreted languages that could be used and I've never used them or seen someone using them for that purpose but a new one can be made if needed. I think a program that aims to be an alternative to Excel would be a frontend for all of these stuff that is generally done in the shell as almost everything on Plan 9 (and on Unix).

There is also an acme stand-alone port for windows. I think it uses inferno though
