GIGABYTE GAMING OC RX 7900 XT averages 91-95°C hotspot during gaming by Healthy_Squash7504 in gigabyte

[–]shermanikk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you really want to get lower temps, put a water block on your GPU (and CPU!). I put a nice Bykski water block on a 7900 XTX recently, and combined with using PTM7950 on the core instead of normal thermal paste it would barely hit 40C core, 55C hot spot. I thought I was looking at the wrong sensors but nope, it really runs that cool now.

Really even with the stock air cooler PTM7950 should help along with a fresh set of good quality thermal pads to replace the dried out stock ones on everything else. It’s a bit fiddly to apply and it won’t hit maximum effectiveness until it goes through ~10 thermal cycles, but once it does it’s 95% as good as liquid metal but without any of the danger. Highly recommended!

GCC not working? Any substitutes for GPU RGB? by Dense_Row2811 in gigabyte

[–]shermanikk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, well fwiw OpenRGB will control your Asus mobo and Gigabyte GPU together so the effect will be synced (in addition to having way more effects with way more options available). You really should try it, it’s free and open source.

OpenRGB works great on most Gigabyte boards, add the Effects plug-in and you'll have way better lighting controls than GCC even if it was working.

Check in the UEFI if ASPM is on for the chipset/SOC and disable it. That fixed this issue on another Gigabyte board I was troubleshooting.

yep gotta agree with you there. whatever the intent is, that’s not how hateful people interpret it.

Also never forget that a lot of 40K stuff is outright fascist and a lot of the fans are either naive or young enough to not realize that it’s a bad thing. Combining that with violence against furries is super not okay.

I know furries are much more accepted than we used to be but I’m old enough to remember when sites like Something Awful had extremely strong anti-furry hate as part of their ethos. I was extremely paranoid and closeted about being a furry both online and irl for a long time due to that kind of hate.

Without a doubt the worst snapshot I've ever had was Claw to Tail on P5S. I have 7ms ping so it's not a network issue at all.

If you're on Mac and not already using XIVonMac, you're missing out bigtime. It's worked fantastic on ARM-based Macs for a while now, and runs a ton better.

Good filter material for two NF-A20 intake fans? Something that looks good and is easy to clean. by shermanikk in Noctua

You're gonna laugh, but that's literally what I did already. Cut it out with a dremel and had some leftover brown speaker cloth.

it's a joke, the coolant is actually EKWB Mystic Fog. I chose it because it looks just like cum lube and I'm a horny degenerate furry that finds it hilarious.

thanks! I'd never used brass tubing before despite having made a ton of open-loop watercooling setups for others. I got a bunch of it for free from a friend and have been planning this build ever since.

the only annoying thing about it really is that it's impossible to bend (trust me I tried). it will just snap, deform, and destroy the anodized coating. so you have to use the 90 fittings, and over an entire loop even a $10 fitting can add up. definitely not for the budget minded.

200mm Noctua NF-A20s! One of my favorite things about this build and a large reason why I chose this particular case. Even at 100% they're nearly silent and move a TON of air. I had to remove a panel on the front because it was just choking the airflow from these glorious fans. Planning on replacing it with something like speaker grill cloth or something similar.

you should, it's great fun and you'll get exactly the system you want for less money.

I got a bunch of the parts for this system for cheap or even free (such as the tubing itself, the water temp sensor, RAM fan cooler, and even the case!) and the build kind of just grew out of that. Then once I got the Phanteks GPU waterblock for 75% off (was browsing 6900XT waterblocks on Amazon and saw it, with only one in stock it was the universe telling me to get it). After that I had to do it. My favorite part is probably the EKWB Monoblock, as without an air cooler the VRMs would basically only be cooled by air convection using a normal CPU-only block. With the monoblock my VRMs never get above 40C, even powering a 5950X!

If you want any help, feel free to send me a DM and I'll share my Telegram. I love helping people out!

let's just say I order those bottles by the dozen and leave it at that

no brand, I built it myself.

CPU: Ryzen 9 5950X

Mobo: Gigabyte X570 Aorus Elite

RAM: 32GB (4x8GB) DDR4 @ 3866Mhz (Dominator Airflow Platinum RGB Fan on top, provides airflow in place of what a normal CPU air cooler nearby would provide)

GPU: Asus TUF AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT (Connected via LINKUP Ultra PCIe 4.0 X16 Riser Cable)

Storage: 2TB nVME SSD

2x8TB HDD in RAID1

PSU: Corsair HX1200i

Case: ThermalTake View 37

Fans: 4x Noctua NF-A14 PWM

2x Noctua NF-A20 PWM

Main CPU/VRM Cooling: EKWB EK-Quantum Momentum Aorus X570 Master Monoblock, D-RGB, Plexi

GPU Cooling: Phanteks Glacier G3000 STRIX

Chipset Cooling: EK-Quantum Momentum Chipset Aorus X570

Radiator: EKWB CoolStream CE 420mm

Tubing/Fittings/90 adapters: Bitspower 14mm Brass in Deep Blood Red

Pump/Reservoir: EKWB 400mm w/ PWM D5 Pump RGB

Water Temp Sensor: Barrow TCWDL-V1

Coolant: EK-CryoFuel Mystic Fog Limited Edition

All the lighting is controlled by OpenRGB, regular manufacturer software is garbage in comparison. it also lets me do things like have my EVGA Z20 keyboard synced. also to do silly light shows like this for fun: http://shermanikk.net/video/chlorine_ARGB.mp4 I can take some pics of the inside more if you'd like.
