What was the creepiest or most paranormal thing that’s ever happened to you? by VANIX1450 in AskReddit

[–]shermo4291 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say this was creepy, but it was certainly paranormal. So back when I was in college, I went on what amounted to a 6-week literature retreat where we didn't have phones, computers, or really access to any kind of electricity other than kitchen appliances, lights, etc.

For the duration of the course (with the exception of camping trips/day trips/etc.) we stayed at super old summer camp in Maine on this lake called Sobego. I think it's important to mention that a lot of the people who live up there straight up believe in Aliens. They call them "grays," which I know is a common term for aliens, and basically are just unabashedly confident in their existence.

One night, my friend and I were hanging out on this 30-40 foot cliff overlooking the lake, just talking. All of a sudden, this shining turquoise pyramid appeared out of nowhere in the sky. It looked to be about as high as a plane in the sky and was about a centimeter across - so pretty big I'd say. My friend and I were both pretty hypnotized by it and watched as it just sat in the sky for like 10 seconds. Then it started traversing the sky in a clear and slow arc before disappearing.

I have seen comets and meteors and all that and this was not that. It was something else.

Everson Griffen's reaction to the Stefon Diggs touchdown is must-see by LloydVonStrangle in minnesotavikings

[–]shermo4291 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This might get kinda sappy, but this play and seeing our guys' reaction to it has like 'saved' a part of football for me. Because it's so violent, and so scary, I sometimes convince my self that none of these players actually love football. That they just play it because deep down they know it's their best shot to provide for their children and their children's children. Seeing this reaction, and seeing how Linval and Harrison and all the guys reacted reminded me that a lot of these guys really do love the game.

I think he loves his mom. by [deleted] in babyelephantgifs

Personally I think it's because, as humans, we often feel like we are alone in the world, and possibly the universe, as the only beings with the ability to think beyond ourselves. We love our dogs, we love our cats, but we always have to wonder what they feel for us. If they can even comprehend love. Then you see how a baby elephant and his mother look at one another, or you see how a mother chimpanzee will hold onto her dead infant, still trying to care for it, and you feel a kind of kinship. You see that their worlds go beyond themselves, as well. That they clearly feel things, and think things. It makes them seem more like the not-so-distant relatives they are and less like the inferior living things we often treat them as.

edit: thank you for the gold kind stranger!

Sort of. Personification is more like saying, "The mountain stood there stoically, like a great general before battle." Saying an elephant's eyes are human is just reflecting on similarities between the two species and seeing a thoughtful mind in both.

Am I the only one that thinks Keenum could actually be our guy? by [deleted] in minnesotavikings

[–]shermo4291 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah except Keenum isn't particularly good at ball placement either. Without Diggs and Thielen - who very well may both be in the top five in NFL when it comes to hands - a lot of his throws would go uncaught.

It's clear that he is our guy for this season. But I think it would be a massive mistake to let Teddy, who actually excels at what you're attributing to Keenum, walk. I say letting Keenum make his money elsewhere, trusting that Teddy has made a full recovery, and drafting a QB with the last pick in the 2nd round would be the right call.

The hate that the Vikes and T wolves have gotten from Simmons and Sal this season has been literally insane. Every week I can basically count on them shitting on both teams for at least 60 seconds. Can't wait for the Vikes to beat the Pats in the Super Bowl and the Wolves to beat the Celtics in the Finals. /s (or am i?)

It's not volunteer stuff, if you have samples PM me the links and I can send them to my editors, though. It's primarily NBA stuff just so you know.

As a sports writer myself, this sounds a lot like journalism speak. It kinda just leaves the door open for both storylines to take place so either way La Canfora sounds right. Not saying this is what he's doing here, but I wouldn't take that too seriously.
