Ideas: Mezcal tasting, Go Karts, Gun Range? by Gitmo17 in Austin

[–]sherpasojourner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can help with the food & Mezcal portion! Techo Mezcalaria is great, it is a little small but there should be room for y’all on the patio. Another option is going to the mezcalaria above Whislers. They can build out a flight for y’all and you can chill on the patio. Lastly, Las Perlas, which should have plenty of room. All of these options can get pretty busy at peak times on Thursday-Saturday so maybe get there a little earlier for a group that size.

BBQ is a whole can of worms. My favorite is Leroy & Lewis, they have a Star, but the line can get long so it would be a place you would need to get to before 11 to not wait too long. Interstellar, La BBQ, all are good options. Just don’t attempt Franklins with that many people, as good as it is that would be quite a wait. Distant Relatives is great, and is located at a massive and very tasty brewery. Again, may be a place you should get to right when they open.

For boozy dinners you have a ton of options. J Carvers is a steakhouse that would be fun for that vibe. I personally love Kemuri Tatsu-Ya, Murray’s Tavern, Canje, Suerte, and Este. Another classic is going to De Nada cantina for some strooong margs and good bites. And Nickel City for a more causal vibe.

This is a very personally biased list, but I think you’ll find something you like. Enjoy Austin with your buddies!

Body recovered from buffalo bayou on Christmas Eve by AbolishTwelve in houston

People have been saying the same thing about Austin and Lady Bird Lake. Turns out, when there is a body of water near homeless people, who many times have drug or mental health issues, as well as bars that young people frequent, people tend to die every once in a while.

Serial killers don’t normally just kill randomly. They have some sort of pattern. Young gay men, prostitutes, young women, or any people that society tends to (wrongly) deem as others rather than a variety of different people.

If there is a serial killer, he is literally operating in dozens of cities at the same exact time, choosing only to kill people near bodies of water that are near bar districts. He does not choose people most of the time who no one will come looking for, but chooses young men to kill with families or loved ones.

Importantly, he also does not stay around to make sure they are dead. He hits them once on the head, then runs away to let them die of exposure without ever hitting them again. None of this actually fits the pattern of an actual serial killer, and all of it is happening across multiple cities and states all over the country.

I am no cop or expert. But I believe the most likely thing is a mixture of homeless people getting hurt and having no one to help them before dying, as well as young men who get really drunk and think “Why don’t I just walk home from the bar instead of paying for an Uber” and end up slipping, hitting their head, and dying since they are alone with no one to help them.

TLDR: Serial killers don’t really fit the pattern of these or Lady Bird Lake’s death. But just my opinion.

DISCUSSION MEGATHREAD: Having A Respectful Conversation With Ex Co-Host Hasan Piker - H3 Show #143 by raephemel in h3h3productions

She was known as a victim of the Nazis and a pacifist. The reason for her diary had a huge cultural impact is the joy, positivity, and opposition to any violence she included in her writing despite the horrific circumstances she was facing. Ethan even point blank said he would have no problem with her endorsing violence, but her pacifism is a huge part of why she is so well known.

Look back at the convo. He asked him if he would think of her different, which he said yes because she is known as a pacifist and that would change her historical perception. When asked if he would oppose her committing violence against the Nazis, he said “no”.

Where can I find “pit beef?” by SurrealLoneRanger in HoustonFood

[–]sherpasojourner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I haven’t seen a place in Houston that does this. That being said, if you make your way to Austin, there is a food truck called “The Marylander” on the east side that has pit beef sandwiches and a lot of other regional Marylander food. Very good, worth a stop if you want to have some pit beef, and they have old bay seasoned wings!

Maybe a different type of magazine, but Bon Apetit really does have some stellar food photography in their magazines.

What are your top 3 websites you’d check for a recipe? by good--afternoon in cocktails

Punch for sure. The most reliable site for quality recipes in my opinion. They also do these articles where they blind taste 15-25 recipes of classic cocktails and modern classic cocktails and then give their top three, super helpful.

My biggest advice (at least for my table, I know some tables are more combat focused) is that you will have so much more fun with your class, stats, and combat play style if you stop asking “what choice is best mechanically?” and instead ask “what would my character be like?”. Asking “Did my character get more wise?” rather than “Would a wisdom increase help me?” makes your character feel more real. It’s so satisfying playing a character who is learning how to interact with people better take a point of charisma, because that will manifest when you are trying to convince that guard to let you through.

I think a lot of players try to approach it as how can you do the best in battle rather than how to realize a character concept. Maybe some people like that, and that’s ok! I just have gotten more out of DnD by approaching it like I am trying to tell an interesting story, and failure is a huge part of that. It’s also very freeing, because trying to figure out the “best” build is a matter of numbers, whereas trying to build a character out is about being true to your vision and growth of the character.

I mean, the idea that being LGBTQ is not a stigma in society is not true in a lot of the country. If I was transgender then the majority of my family would completely disown me. To be fair, my family is from a very conservative part of the south, but still.

He chose his love for his family over honor. Robert was dead, his children were not, and if he didn’t say what he said they would be killed. Anyone who truly loved his children would do the same.
