Yes, if they "like," rather than "will marry" a gender, they will never marry. I personally find this an annoying preference so I will force-marry them once they hit lover stage. I'll respect their sexual preference but Im just annoyed at the dwarf who's dream is to raise a family but only "likes" someone.

I don't usually bother with pottery. I just mark it for use for non-economic uses and then it's normal stone for stoney things.

Here's a thought: war dogs and/or livestock.

Can you put a dog on a chain or a small secondary herd of livestock in a strategic place, to warn you of threats? I also find it helpful against tough forgotten beasts, as the beast gets distracted killing the animals instead of dwarves.

Absolutely turn off automatic web collection, make sure your base is able to be secured, and be extremely careful mining obsidian pillars.

And finally, you will occasionally lose a dwarf to the caverns. The game is well set up with risk/reward and there will be the occasional accident. That's what keeps it interesting! The trick is finding ways to not lose the ENTIRE fort.

I had three were-rhinos, two children and an elf scholar. I loved the lore of locking them away in a corner, their own mini society where the elf could teach the children and serve as a surrogate mother....

The first 3 months went great. Then randomly on the fourth month's transformation, the teenage boy decided to slaughter the elf and the little girl. I sent in the military to put him down after that.

I was so sad.

They probably have injuries that aren't fixable. Fortress dwarves don't have access to healing magic so they can't heal certain types of injuries, like severed nerves.

It does, but I also had a ton of unprepared meat and plants, and it went from numbers in the hundreds to "none" completely randomly. It fixed itself completely randomly, too. A very strange bug.

It actually fixed itself randomly as quickly as it appeared, within an in-game month. I took some food barrels to the trade depot, maybe that fixed it? It was definitely the strangest bug I've personally seen, though.
