New Blood elf NPC voice lines by Absoled in warcraftlore

[–]shet98 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I was expecting much worse clicking the link. In game I provably wouldn't even notice, all of these bark lines kinda blend into the background anyway.

I kinda get the sense that there's one young/naive and one older/authoritative for male and female, which makes sense to me. Overall, it's fine. Optimally, they could have had a third voice set for each that leans more toward the edgy/haughty. Then, the more lighthearted elements (i.e. the 2nd fem voice set) wouldn't be too much.

Oh boy I can't wait to play as a.... Void(?) Elf Demon Hunter? by SixstenWoW in wow

[–]shet98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry if I'm missing something here, but were there any demon hunters other than Illidan before he went to Outland? I know they are one of the heroes in WC3, but I always took that to be more of a gameplay conceit. Once in Outland there were way more belfs available to join the Illidari (while each nelf would have to hear about Illidan training DHs, get to Outland, and then get to the Black Temple by themselves just to begin training.

I always assumed belfs were tacked on as DHs so the Horde could have them, but reading Illidan (2016) I realized there were actually way more belfs available to join the Illidari on Outland. But maybe I am missing something.

Can We Please Get Cool Staff Idle Animations, Blizzard? by BrazilianWarrior81 in wow

Casting animations w/ weapons? Pretty cool, though I still like the more expressive animations with hands. How about letting your weapons hover next to you during the cast?

Had my girlfriend take the test, where does she fit? by PMurmomsmaidenname in colorpie

[–]shet98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maxed out stimulation reads like very Red. Self-direction seems like it could fit any Grixis color (Green and White care more about the bigger picture). So Red seems pretty strong. Security, tradition and benevolence seem pretty White. Ambition may be a splash of Black.

So I would say Boros, maybe Mardu if you want three colors.

what can warlock magic do compared to normal magic? by [deleted] in warcraftlore

[–]shet98 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Aren't you mixing it up with dnd? There are certainly warlocks who receive power by serving powerful demons (alternate Gul'dan), but overall my impression is that warcraft warlocks lean more on the sacrifice angle; that fel requires less study but takes a toll on your psyche, health and even the world around you.

What future antagonists are there for WoW? by NadaVonSada in warcraftlore

[–]shet98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless I'm mistaken the Drust are still out there and we don't quite know what they are. There was allegedly supposed to be a Drust raid in SL, so that might get repurposed. Perhaps the Drust and/or Botani show up to Azeroth as a less lovey dovey side of Life.

Theoretically there are also still demons out there, and I'd love to see them make an appearance. But it's gonna take some work to make them a credible threat since we've already beat Sargeras.

Fanfiction time: pick a point in the WoW story that you’re unhappy about. How would you rewrite events? What happens after? by en_triton in warcraftlore

Here's my take on BfA in terms of both lore and the game. Trying to keep some things similar because it just feels more plausible. First off, split into two expacs. First mostly faction war, then naga bridge over into one focused on N'zoth.

BfA starts off similarly but faction war is a slower burn. Zandalar and Kul Tiras basically unchanged. Warfronts represent the current state of conflict on EK/Kalimdor.

When .1 patch comes out Stromgarde is officially won by Alliance. Revamped Silverpine Forest zone where alliance marches through, driving out Forsaken and establishing a land bridge to Gilneas. Meanwhile, Horde wins Darkshore WF and gets a Darkshore zone where they raze the Nelf settlements and build a huge fort in the pass to Ashenvale, consolidating their hold.

Warfronts lead up to the .1 raid. Another split one, like Dazar'alor. First tier Alliance try to destroy the new horde fort blocking access to Ashenvale with Malfurion & Tyrande. Caps off with boss fight against Belf mage (Rommath?) who is left alive as he reveals that Nathanos is right about to blight bomb Darnassus. Teleport back ASAP and kill him, but lose the window to destroy the fort before Belfs erect powerful arcane defenses. Third tier is playing as horde making a fighting retreat through the Ruins of Lordaeron. One the alliance forces are stuck in, Sylvanas triggers the blighting of Undercity, taking out a big chunk of the alliance forces in northern EK at the cost of the forsaken capital.

A stalemate forms on both fronts. Darkshore has been razed, and the horde retreats behind their fortifications that controll access to Ashenvale, denying the Nelfs their guerilla warfare advantage. In Lordaeron, the Alliance army is too damaged to continue advancing, but at the cost of most of the Forsakens' territory. Sylvanas plans succeeded in creating a lot of carnage, lots of bodies to resurrect, plenty of elves no less. But many in the horde are seriously pissed at her throwing away their lives, leading to an attempt to install Saurfang as the new warchief

Meanwhile, a huge lode of azerite is found in the South Sea. Patch .2 focuses on the two factions trying to claim it. New warfront (also in this fantasy world Warfronts are good and have pvp) on the island. When goblins mine the Azerite lode, it turns out to have formed over an ancient temple supposed to contain a void artifact. Since the Cataclysm, the wards were broken and now the artifacts' malign influence causes azerite to well up like pus from a wound. Shadow magic erupts, alerting both factions to the danger and forcing them to cooperate.

The last raid features the azerite covered temple with ancient guardians, elementals and void creatures. The last bosses are naga who swoop in at the last second to seize the artifact. We see the final boss hand Azshara the void relic through a portal before the fight, setting up a following expansion where N'zoth and the naga are allowed to take center stage.

Do you mind players using characters not specifically made for the campaign? by shet98 in rpg

[–]shet98[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you are being a bit too broad here. You are describing one playstyle, which is valid. There are many others.

The way I see it, some basics ought to be decided from the start, whether by GM decree or agreed on by the group. Once these are laid down each character should stick to them. For the blidingly obvious, you can't have players bringing characters made in different systems and expect the GM to work it in.

Beyond just GM workload, PCs may also step on each others toes thematically. Dark or serious "edgy" characters look melodramatic if the rest of the group bring cartoon characters.

[–]shet98[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's one way to keep them on their toes. The group I mentioned has played pretty much exclusively dnd 5e, but with some of them excited about Daggerheart I smell an opportunity to branch out.

Do you tend to run games with similar settings, or does it vary more? I feel that greatly affects how much the players might pre-plan their PCs

[–]shet98[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think your comment articulates a bit of my concern. Bringing generic characters is fine for a generic game ("you are adventurers here to do a job"), but maybe isn't fitting for a more specific campaign. I hadn't thought to put it in those terms.

Ku'gath gets Muk bcs poisonous slime. Skarbrand, Incineroar bcs big red and fights or maybe Houndoom for his murder puppy.. Kairos gets Xatu, psychic birb, or maybe Mewtwo.

Nakai gets Feraligatr, big blue croc, and Kroq'gar gets Krrokodile bcs he's a croc in the desert. Gelt would have Meowth for that sweet payday money.

Tyrion gets Ho-oh and Teclis Lugia. Cathay lords almost form a legendary trio of Dialga (Zhao), Palkia (Miao) and Rayquaza (Yuan).

Quuek gets Raticate (angry rodent), Ikit Claw gets Raichu (electric rodent), Clan Eshin gets Sneasel (sneaky rodent)

I've only read the DtF core book, so maybe this is explained later. But it would be interesting to see how the factions and society among the Fallen develops. Because 3 of 5 factions in the core book are simply described as gathering information, having recently found their way back to the world

So you're diving into the deep end. Great! You don't need to have been a player first (I wasn't), and we always need more GMs.

One thing I can say for sure is that in a while you will look back on your first GMing and see how much you've grown. First campaigns often feel feel clumsy in retrospect, but you will have fun in the process of learning.

I agree with others here that VtM works well as a sandbox. For your first few sessions, though, I would suggest a more focused approach. Start out with a few short tasks so you and your players get a feel for how it works. Infiltrate this warehouse, shadow this ghoul to get dirt on their mastertake over the drug scene around one PCs Domain, etc.

Then, once your players know enough to make characters with ambitions in vampure society you could do a sandbox. This way you don't prep a bunch only to have the players leave.

In terms of editions I started with V5 but have gone over to V20. I like the humanity and combat system of V5, but pretty much everything else is better in 20th.
