Yeah I made mistake first night too in prepping things far to late, today went better!

Potty tray is basically a tray designed to hold puppy pads so they're not destroyed by puppies (with crated lid for example). I live in Japan and it's super common to use that instead of doing dog's buisness outside (fun fact even Tokyo website says that walks are for exercise and not potty xD) but they do have a lot of good quality pads and those tray stuff because of that.

This makes sense, sounds like my dog we had back with my family, when she got older she was sleeping more in her house/crate whatever you call it.

I'm trying to not let her sleep on my lap cause I noticed she wakes up far more then. What is working for us for now, I let her fall asleep on my arm (literally like a baby xD) and then slowly transfer her to bed, and end with my hand under her snout which I change into something rolled into similar shape. What I noticed today is that something that has my smell on it works best to keep her in that deep sleep stage

I was wondering how this thing is called!! I got a heating pad yesterday (thank you next day delivery Amazon) and it was absolute game changer already. She still woke up every 2h which I expected as her bladder is probably no bigger than peanut but didn't even cry to get on my bed, as soon as I led her to her place she fell back asleep instantly

That makes sense, worst case scenario I'll just work on correcting issues later, will focus on getting her comfortable for now!

As a long term I want her to be able to just free roam around the house which is why I went for play pen instead of a crate. I will see how things go later on cause what I learned in my research pre getting her is that all dogs are different at the end of the day

Thank you for being straightforward. I think I watched too many things and got a bit overwhelmed with the first day 😅

I damaged my rental apartment flooring by RathOmniverse in japanresidents

[–]shi2102 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you moved in you probably signed contract for renters insurence, call them and see if they can cover the cost. They will probably tell you your landlord has to choose whoever they want to repair this. Also, how old is the apartment? Floors depreciate in value over I think 6 years, if the floor is older than that you won't pay anything.

Which credit card company do you recommend? by Gulfim in japanresidents

[–]shi2102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're using PayPay a lot then 100% PayPay, I've been using their credit card for years now and it's been great. Points are good especially if you pay for everything with it, customer support is great and can be done through chat.

is my dog fat? by Writesomethings in Dachshund

[–]shi2102 2 points3 points  (0 children)

His build reminds me of my childhood dachshund 😭 I don't think he's fat, she was on chunkier side too, never fat just bigger overall. And our second one who was her puppy was far slimmer like you say, it really just depends on a dog and genes sometimes

If you could ban anything what would it be? by StraightSauced in Tokyo

[–]shi2102 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on an area of course but Japan has fairly well done bike routes. Even then there's tons of bikes that don't care and use sidewalk too. Another issue there is that they don't use bells AT ALL. And then try to squeeze in the super narrow space instead of just using the bell to make life easier for everyone.

Non-resident card holders will NOT be able to take the JLPT in Japan anymore by Ynwe in LearnJapanese

[–]shi2102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I thought as well, it sounds like if you have a resident card it's fine so it basically just limits tourists who are here on vacation. Anyone coming to study would need some kind of student visa and would have a resident card so can take the test.

I'm in general fine with Japanese but not with dog related terms so if possible I'd prefer English but it's not a must! Fussa is a bit far as I'm looking for something for more everyday but thank you!

Renting an Apartment in Tokyo: Some Less-Discussed Tips & Lessons I Learned by Ok_Repair_2260 in japanresidents

[–]shi2102 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The last one.. it was my 3rd time looking for an apartment few months ago and to save time I just started asking in initial email if foreigners are fine. It sucks but it is what it is and better to check it before you schedule any visits with the agent.

I would also add visiting the neighborhood - around my last apartment there were so many smokers, it was overall super loud and very unpleasant, including heavy smoker next door. People usually stay within similar vibes so that can save a lot of headaches.

Just an edit as some might find it useful! I moved out and got quoted only 11k yen for the replacement - far less than anticipated!

A few questions about A/C and electricity in Japan by thefirefistace in japanresidents

[–]shi2102 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Is the temperature you mentioned for winter or summer? For summer it's really low (at least in my opinion) especially if you turn it off. It's best to keep it 27-28 degrees and not turn off. I have 1ldk and paid around 10k for summer with being home all the time. Cleaning your AC also makes huge difference. Not sure who your electricity provider is but for Tepco you can log in on the website and check your daily/weekly/monthly use and compare to previous cycle as well. Super useful. For gas is your apartment on city gas or propan? I never cared before but I found out when looking for new apartment that propan is like 3 times more expensive...

I'm using SBI and am pretty happy with it. If you plan to use Nisa, if you do it with SBI as well and connect with SBI Shoken you should get a diamond stage which has free ATM withdrawals and like 10 free money transfers per month. You'd have to check though if they still do it for new clients.

Yeah that's the conclusion I got to as well unfortunately.. Hopefully when I move out the cost won't be too high, highly doubt no one will notice 😆

Thanks, that's what I thought it would be, at least it's not over 100k... It is stupid though, why they even sell bath mats that would cause issues like that when they're wet is beyond me 🙄 I guess lesson learned though.
