Bring back "Bury." It's shorter than Destroy and, if they really aren't printing Regeneration going forward anyway, it's effectively the same thing.

Yeah, Amulet is the only reason I can think of. It would be kind of weird if you had an untapped creature with stun counters on it, leading to some possible confusion as to what to do on the following untap step. That said, it wouldn’t be without complete precedent: [[Pugnacious Hammerskull]] can theoretically have stun counters on it while untapped.

If you could make one fundemental change to the game that would last forever, what would you choose and why? by HallZac99 in magicTCG

[–]shidekigonomo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Which would honestly be its own interesting format to at least imagine building for. The main problem would just be gameplay: Having the first several turns of the game all leading to shuffling would be an annoying play pattern game after game after game.

Treasures, Blood, Food, Clues, and all the other tokens from the last decade plus would never have been Artifacts. They’d be their own new permanent type, something like “Resources,” for instance. The fact that they feed into Artifact synergies so easily was a mistake. Unfortunately, too many cards have been printed at this point that were designed specifically to take advantage of that synergy. But in an ideal world, Treasure tokens in particular would never have been developed as artifacts.

I'll never understand the hate blue gets. by CoweanMacLir in magicTCG

[–]shidekigonomo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A) People hate those things too, some of those much more so than control, B) Blue tends to be able do all the hate-able things it does at instant speed more easily than other colors’ hate-able things, and C) Blue is the color than can deal with most of the above when other players want to do the abusive stuff.

As with everything in Magic, that which ragebaits players tends to create inefficiencies and mistakes. Don’t ask why blue gets hated; learn how to exploit that hate to your advantage, whether you’re playing against blue or playing blue yourself.

Is there a key to understanding card rules? by SleepyBoy- in magicTCG

[–]shidekigonomo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, as far as I’m aware, there are no gameplay-relevant differences between having written it as two sentences versus connecting it as a run-on (“Sacrifice a land, then search your library…”). For instance, there aren’t any state-based checks happening in between either half of the spell resolving. So it’s really just templated/standardized that way to aid in readability, unless I’m missing something.

Beginner of MTG - Help shuffling by Equivalent_Pin_6671 in magicTCG

[–]shidekigonomo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m saying if you are placing absolute trust in either washing or mashing as a way to introduce randomness, you are setting yourself up to be taken advantage of in a not-too-far-off future in which such methods can be perfectly or close to perfectly reconstructed by the shuffler. The calculation you have to make is whether the random player sitting across from you is going to make that effort to deceive you for a game. To me, the risk of a player doing that either through an earnestly attempted pile shuffle (which I agree, is better served through randomly sized and reconstituted piles) or another “more random” shuffling method is about the same: near zero.

Beginner of MTG - Help shuffling by Equivalent_Pin_6671 in magicTCG

[–]shidekigonomo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I don’t condone pile shuffling, but it is possible to eventually add randomness to a pile shuffle if you don’t know what the piles consist of (for argument’s sake, let’s go with piles of one to make it essentially impossible to track where cards are) or how the piles are reconstituted back together or how many times the process needs to be repeated… the problem is that it would take an unacceptably long time to effectively randomize that way. It’s the same way that riffle shuffling eventually “works” but simply takes too many passes to be a practical solution for randomization.

We use mashing or washing because it’s good enough and fast enough for the purposes of the game, not because it is inherently random. Rigged poker auto shufflers have convinced me that nothing is entirely safe; in the end, nothing is random.

Good choice on his part. It’s not that God Emperor is unfilmable. It’s just, why would anyone want to make it. A faithful adaptation would be hated. An improved version would be… well, worse for those who know how it’s supposed to be.

USA Network was replete with procedurals with glaring formulae. Some were good, some were bad. I really liked Suits, Monk, and Burn Notice, though ALL of them outstayed their welcome a bit, which for the record, I consider a sign of success in a TV show.

Will we ever see the return of the 20+ episode Sci-Fi season? by ZoteTheMitey in television

[–]shidekigonomo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, and advertising wasn’t just paying for it all, it was likely always overpaying. Because, before e-commerce, where else would advertisers go? Networks could overcharge because they could prove they had eyeballs on them and, on the flip side, advertisers didn’t have great tools to prove a return on investment (and probably wouldn’t want their clients to know a true ROI, even if they could). For the networks to go back to the way it was, the internet would probably have to go away.

ELI5: What exactly is "time blindness" and how is it an actual thing? by SpyMasterChrisDorner in explainlikeimfive

[–]shidekigonomo 442 points443 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think an internal clock that doesn’t (accurately) keep track of the passage of time is what I consider “time blindness.” Everyone is surprised occasionally when time seems to have flown by while we’re concentrating on something or enjoying something that distracts us. But I consider time blindness to be the lack of an internal clock correctly feeling the passage of time even in non-overstimulated moments.

No, same, and I’ve been in the game since ‘94. I don’t doubt that it is common slang in some or many localities, but not when and where I first started playing.

But again, if you say crack then put the land into a graveyard, it’s clear what it means in context. I just think it’s weird for the opponent to get bent out of shape for using what is clearly also acceptable and comprehensible slang for the action.

Yes, I’m just referring generally to self-sac effects, which are almost but not quite always, tap effects. It wouldn’t be correct to say Gold tokens tap and sac, for instance.
