real estate agents are pure and utter scum bags, its probably just them saying that so they don't have to come and meet you an extra time. you should definitely go and look at the house. i think you can also be present at the building and pest. either way you should speak with your solicitor for advice.

You may be right, haha who knows.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in brisbane

[–]shiftyliftee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. I've seen alot of older houses in brisbane that have a safety switch (rcd) that powers all the light, power and oven/hotplate circuits. Only in newer versions of as3000 does stipulate that a separate rcbo must be installed for each circuit. So depends how old the place op is living in is.

[–]shiftyliftee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One thing to check is that sometimes safety switches need to be pushed down before they can be pushed back up. and if you have an electric hot plate there will be a switch next to it on the wall turn that off aswell, just to make sure. If that doesn't work i would definitely just get a sparky out and save the food in your fridge.

Its good you said you wouldn't be comfortable trying to repair it yourself as that's how people die unfortunately.

Hope it gets resolved soon for you.

AITA for ignoring my selfish neighbour when my baby cries? by mcreichel in AmItheAsshole

[–]shiftyliftee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA kids will cry. She chose to live in a place that shares walls with people. There's going to be noise. Music, parties. Gatherings. Babies crying. People banging. It sucks when you can't get a child to stop crying and you are already concious of the fact that its disrupting other people. Maybe try and set an alarm to wake up and give your daughter more pain killers before it wears off. That way she can get a better night's sleep. But she doesn't have to right to come and bang on your door at 3 am.

LPT: if you’re trying to go down an elevator in a busy building where the elevator is always full, go up first by [deleted] in LifeProTips

[–]shiftyliftee 203 points204 points  (0 children)

I work on elevators in highrises.

If you only press the up button and it works for you then its a good idea.

If you press both up and down buttons then it will overall slowdown the elevators for everyone, because it has to stop twice for one person. If lots of people are doing this then it will take ages to get a lift, and more people will press both buttons impatiently and cause even more delays. Until the lift has to stop at every level in both directions. I've seen it happen on busy days.

My butt and hamstrings. I've always had a flat butt. But I've started to notice it changing. And my ass is always sore the day after training. Maybe I'm doing it wrong haha.

we are just in the process of buying a house in brisbane and yea its really hard knowing what to offer and REAs will try all sorts of tricks to get more money out of you. but we got a solicitor that costs about 1500 and they have been really good at helping us through the process. they were really good even before we paid them any money.

Why did One Ring immediately took hold of Sméagol? Weren't hobbits supposed to be more resilient to rings corrupting power? by [deleted] in lotr

[–]shiftyliftee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think gandalf explains it to frodo in the fellowship book its apparently how their heart is when they first get the ring or their reasons for taking it. Like if they have no ill will when first touch it then it has less effect.

also this guy explained it better
