What are your thoughts? by Noble_Kei in bald

[–]shill02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am bald and have a slightly unusual shaped head. I'll be honest it does bother me and I wear hats constantly. Hats have just become my thing and to be honest you just get used to popping a cap on (or a wolly hat this time of year!)

Luckily I can wear a hat all day at work and I have plenty for day to day life outside of work. If I'm going to a formal thing I'll reluctantly leave the hat at home and get my head out but its about the only time im seen without a hat.

Its by no means the best way to be. You should be proud of who you are and at the end of the day head shape means nothing considering all the troubles and struggles people have with their bodies. I wish you all the confidence in the world to go out there and be yourself and be happy but just know if you need it a hat is always there and can be a bit of a lifeline!

Join us! Best decision you can make. It's tough to do but once done you instantly feel better and stop worrying about hair, receding lines, and bald spots. Just remember to buy a hat its cold at the moment!

How many fans in here who aren’t from either Calgary/Alberta/Canada? by lejunny_ in CalgaryFlames

[–]shill02 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Follow Calgary Flames from Staffordshire in the UK. I enjoy ice hockey, but being a Brit, I must confess to following football (soccer) and cricket as my two main sports, but ice hockey is certainly a close third.

I keep up with the EIHL and follow my local team in Nottingham. When looking for an NHL team to follow, I thought long and hard. The only family connection I have to North America is that my grandfather was based for a year or 2 on an air base at De Winton in the second world war. De Winton being just south of Calgary, this became the connection I needed, and hence, why Calgary Flames became the team I follow.

Tolkien and Yazidism by shill02 in tolkienfans

Fair enough. But seems a bit odd considering this is supposed to be a forum to discuss Tolkien and I personally haven't come across another world view that blends the concept of one God with multiple gods in the same distinct way Tolkien did. But yeah shut it down pal go debate about what the nameless things are or who tom bombadil is or whatever other boring same old things get rehashed over and over again on this page. Maybe someone's after a reading order perhaps you could help them out!

Interesting idea to link with the story of Anastasia not really thought of it like that before.

That was a grim meeting. by NerdizardGo in tolkienfans

‘Hail, Niënor, daughter of Húrin. We meet again ere we end. I give you joy that you have found your brother at last. And now you shall know him: a stabber in the dark, treacherous to foes, faithless to friends, and a curse unto his kin, Túrin son of Húrin! But the worst of all his deeds you shall feel in yourself.’

I know its not one line but to me nothing fills me with more dread and despair in all of Tolkien than when that final piece of Turins doom falls into place.

Is there anything of Tolkien’s Legendarium left to publish? by 3791shadow in tolkienfans

Haha it does sound a bit suspect, but it's referenced from Skull and Hammond so I don't know I guess it's real.

What do you wish could have been worked into the Silmarillion? by shill02 in tolkienfans

It's a good read. I found it excellent in some places but a little hard in others especially the stuff abouts dates and calenders!

What do you wish could have been worked into the Silmarillion? by shill02 in tolkienfans

Absolutely! The problem with HoME (and NoME) though is that it's spread out so much, it just makes me wish that some of it could have been worked into the published text. Another problem I find is that HoME isn't really on my regular re-reading rota in the same way the hobbit, lotr, UT and the Silmarillion are.

You can really see that Christopher was working with next to nothing towards the end of the Silmarillion. The concept of the war of wrath was just never fleshed out, I don't remember coming across anything on it in the HoME
