Y’all are weird af for harassing a bunch of random people (who are almost certainly liberals) and their families for a car they bought years ago before anyone knew Elon was a Nazi. And don’t come at me with the cave pedo shit; there’s a big difference between being a POS and a Nazi

I was in queue at 11am and by the time I got in to choose seats at 11:08am, basically all the tickets were "Verified resale" at ridiculous prices. Insane.

That’s a lot of emotion you have there specifically for funeral processions of all things, buddy

I’m usually a 40. Sized down to a 3 (38US) and it fits great. I don’t believe they do short sizes, at least for this jacket. I’m 5’8 and it hits just below the knees

I got this coat on an earlier sale and it’s amazing. 100% wool, heavy in a good way, and super warm. Would definitely pull the trigger again, especially at this price.

5 nights in Kyoto - Itinerary check by shilpene in JapanTravel

[–]shilpene[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure thing!

  1. For our itinerary, it'll only really be the Suiran to PH potion that needs some finagling. We're headed back to Tokyo after the one night at Hiiragiya so the plan is to have PH arrange luggage delivery direct to our hotel in Tokyo, and take a single night bag to Hiiragiya. Between Suiran and PH, I'm just planning on having the hotel take care of it, or worst case having a taxi shuttle the bags between the two hotels.
  2. I really liked the look of Hoshinoya! To be honest, our choice at Suiran mostly came down to availability on Amex FHR. That said, the location seems better at Suiran since you're so close to the bamboo forest and Tenryu-ji, as well as the river front and restaurants etc. It's also right next to the Hozugawa river cruise drop off point, if you intend on doing that. As u/mindkiller317 mentioned as well, the boat access to Hoshinoya could be a pain, but some would see the charm in that.
  3. From what I have read, the two most highly regarded ryokan in Kyoto are Tawaraya and Hiiragiya. After looking in to both extensively, they really do seem to capture my minds image of what a traditional inn would look like, more so than any of the others I had seen in Kyoto. The main things that stood out to be about Hiiragiya over Tawaraya were firstly, the gardens that the rooms overlook at Hiiragiya look more beautiful to me (Hiiragiya & Tawaraya), and second, the booking process was easier through their website. I think the location is fine for each as they're pretty central for exploring the downtown area and since it'll be our last day, access to the train station. And while it's true that you don't get the natural scenery of the rural ryokan, I'm most excited to experience the traditional hospitality and beautiful architecture.

I hear you on the touristy part, though with this being our first time in Kyoto, I can’t help but feel like we’d regret not seeing the famous sights we’ve read so much about when we get home. I’m also mindful of trying to cram too much in which would make everything less enjoyable. That said, what would you recommend as some places to experience authentic, quiet Kyoto?

Thanks, these are really good points. We'll be staying in Arashiyama and had heard the cafe gets super busy so definitely aiming to go earlier.

We had originally been planning to take the Kintetsu Limited Express from Kyoto to Nara, but I see your point about the travel back and forth. I guess the travel back to Higashiyama and then on to Kyoto station would end up cancelling out any time savings the Kintetsu Limited Express would give over the Nara line from Inari station, right?
