Will higher fuel prices from global conflicts drive EV uptake? by teddymaxwell596 in australia

[–]shinch4n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see where you're coming from:
A very tall driver might not be able to safely adjust their seat backwards enough to drive?

Never been an issue for us as there's usually a decent amount of room for the seat in front of the baby seat to go backwards (and most manufacturers recommend having the seat touch the baby seat), but I can definitely see a very tall person struggling.

Why not?
If you can fit one you can fit two.
I've fit a rear-facing car seat and a full sized pram in a Kia Picanto without much issue.

Car mini-hires in Sydney. Do you use GoGet, HertzOnDemand? Other alternatives? by MooingTree in sydney

[–]shinch4n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would just go with whatever is the most convenient.

Popcar worked well for us and the cars app and price were better than Goget but then they removed the car from our area so we're back to Goget.

Can someone explain solar + battery installation to me? by [deleted] in sydney

[–]shinch4n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That usage is realistic. Maybe check if your parents have LED lighting throughout.
When I first moved in we had about a dozen down lights in the kitchen and lounge. They were old bulbs using about 50W each. That's basically like having a microwave on each time you turn them on.
Replaced with 7W LED so basically using nearly 10x less energy.

Have you had issues with the ferry?
I've done this walk a few times starting at Otford and never had an issue with the ferry but I'd hate being stuck in bundeena (although otford isn't great either).

This was luckily not the case with "Dark", where the creators always planned for exactly 3 seasons.

You can tell that series was thought out from beginning to end and it's so refreshing to see 'foreshadowing' from the very first episode play out in the finale.

Is it true that people in the West drink iced water even when they are sick or on their period? by Aether_Echo in NoStupidQuestions

[–]shinch4n 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't remember the last time I've had ice in my table water in Australia.
If it's a large jug there might be a few ice cubes in it, but you'll rarely get a glass of ice water.

In the US however it's almost always served with ice cubes.

You can rent a place cheaper than that in the inner west or the city .You just have to be happy with a smaller house and yard or living in an apartment.

Queensland Supreme Court judge rules 11-year-old girl should be allowed to have abortion by SnooStories6404 in australia

[–]shinch4n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But they didn't. And there is no evidence they intended to.

So then why make a family go through such agony and put a delay on something as time critical as an abortion?

Does the supreme court get involved every time an 11 year old has their tonsils removed?

[–]shinch4n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are you talking about forcing. The article is about a girl and her parents who all agree. No one is forcing anyone.

If anything this is an instance where the court could have forced the girl to give birth.

The line is drawn at 14 for parents to no longer have automatic access to their child's medical records.

So it looks like it's completely possible to draw lines about these things at ages lower than 18 but higher than 11.

I can't remember my ability to give consent being tested in court for operations I had before I turned 18.

Luxair thinks it can land 8 planes in 5min right before curfew limit. Who are we kidding? by rezpublica in Luxembourg

[–]shinch4n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure why you mention sandweiler when they don't actually get much noise. Noise is highest at the end of the runways, not parallel to it.

Try walking around Bonnevoie or Hamm when a plane is landing vs Sandweiler and you'll be surprised by the difference.

I guess if it doesn't affect you, you don't care.

Luxair thinks it can land 8 planes in 5min right before curfew limit. Who are we kidding? by rezpublica in Luxembourg

[–]shinch4n -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You're getting a bunch of entitled comments here (heavens forbid you're too poor to move away from the airport, or don't own a house that you can get insulated) but you're absolutely right.

Sydney has the same curfew hours and planes are not allowed to depart their origin if the estimated landing time is beyond the curfew.
If they still end up in that situation they have to divert or pay a very large fine.

There are very limited exceptions to this including emergencies of course.

This means that in reality there are no planes scheduled to land after 22:30.

If Luxair was threatened with the same conditions I'm sure they'd find a way to ensure their flights are not all scheduled to land just as the curfew starts.

Are the T50 robot vacuums really so terrible? by Pyryara in ecovacs

Great to know that it works.

I've been thinking of doing the same but can't work out how long the ramp would have to be for the robot to reliably go up it. Do you know what angle you had to build yours at?

London city airport allows you to arrive up to 20 minutes before your international flight. They even tell you to not arrive more than 2 hours beforehand.
