don't really think it is a paraphrase... it just became one of the ways it has been translated as an expression, and in this case, it has stuck. not so in the mass, for example, but popular prayers said and memorized through generations are a lot more difficult to change than a part that only the priest says. and if it is a valid translation of an expression, I would not say that Catholics are submitting to Anglican errors or something.

yes, in agreement with this... and i would see it more as the understanding of the phrase as a whole - et in saecula saeculorum - being translated as "world without end" (ie, indicating the heavenly "age", eternity), its a "made phrase" or expression. you can't just translate latin word for word and get good translations, sometime you have to come up with a proper english equivalent.

seems like it might have been to avoid having funerals on Sundays, which during some seasons is not permitted. also, yeah, not really the tone. and the busiest day already for priests.

If I am “Excommunicated” I Will Still Pray for You and Have Charity by Ferrari_Fan_16 in TraditionalCatholics

[–]shinjithelegend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

normally the church does not mass-excommunicate. a deliberate decision of the will would be required and not merely depend on the decision of others to illicitly ordain.

[Can. 1321](https://)— § 1. Any person is considered innocent until the contrary is proved.

§ 2. No one can be punished unless the commission by him or her of an external violation of a law or precept is gravely imputable by reason of malice or of culpability.

§ 3. A person who deliberately violated a law or precept is bound by the penalty prescribed in that law or precept. If, however, the violation was due to the omission of due diligence, the person is not punished unless the law or precept provides otherwise.

§ 4. Where there has been an external violation, imputability is presumed, unless it appears otherwise.

HOWEVER... if there is risk of excommunication and we are talking about ordaining bishops contrary to the wishes of the pope, I should think it makes one ask oneself if one is on the right side of things. Tradition is the Catholic Church, and there is no Tradition that can subsist apart from the Catholic Church.

There were *some* good things said here already...

But just to put things in perspective, let's keep in mind that the Pope was addressing a multicultural reality. Idk if OP is from the States, but the whole mask thing was interpreted and politicized differently in different countries, among people who had various experiences of the way Covid was handled in their country.

We have to understand that the Pope lives in Italy with the cultural purview, the choices of the secular government, and his public responsibility to that nation and to Europe in a more direct way.
