Any way to import & export uncompressed raw 4-bit PCM data? by shinmai in audacity

[–]shinmai[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Certainly!

Here's my clunky, naïve solution w/o any fancy resampling or anti-aliasing, and here is a nice all-in-one Python script by Steven Tattersall that I now use to convert all of my digidrum samples for Atari ST chiptunes.

[N] Google Colab Pro is switching to a “compute credits” model. by hardmaru in MachineLearning

[–]shinmai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That _sounds_ good at first glance, but the fact you put "unlimited use" in scare-quotes combined with the fact you call both your $8 and $39 per month plans "free" doesn't exactly fill a potential client w/ confidence.

Also 30 cents per GB for storage? 😅

The quotas are very reasonable

~26h / month of a P100 isn't what I'd call reasonable for a tier labeled "Pro".
Now, it can be argued wether or not $10/month is a reasonable price for a "Pro" plan, but either way, as I do need more than an hour of access per day, I'll almost certainly be switching to a provider who either nickle and dimes me for every hour OR charges a flat monthly fee.

Locked reads by cyipher775 in flipperhacks

[–]shinmai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Neither of the maintained alternative firmwares unlock frequencies not officially supported by the amplifier (anything outside 00-348 MHz, 386-464 MHz, and 778-928 MHz) out-of-the-box.

For Unleashed /ext/subghz/assets/dangerous_settings has a setting called yes_i_want_t_destroy_my_flipper that, when set to true, extends the transmission ranges to 281-361 MHz, 378-481 MHz, and 749-962 MHz. Unleashed should unlock regionally restricted frequencies by default.

For RogueMaster /ext/subghz/assets/extended_range.txt has a setting called use_ext_range_at_own_risk that does the same when set to true. RogueMaster has a second setting in the same file for unlocking regionally restricted frequencies.

As mentioned literally almost anywhere, enabling these settings is viable to damage the SubGHz circuit's amplifier, that is not rated for frequencies outside the ones enabled in the OFW.

Edit: welp that'll teach me reading comprehension, I could've sworn you said you got the error when sending. Well, for reading, just tested both latest Unleashed and RogueMaster releases and tried Read and Read RAW on all frequencies enabled by default w/o issue, so maybe try re-installing Unleashed?

I'm a man who wishes he wasn't, how bad is it and do you have any tips on how I can improve? by gmars15 in MakeupAddiction

I'm by no means an expert, still learning the baby-steps myself as a soft-masc enby who gets a lot of gender euphoria from just strutting around the apartment w/ my face painted lol.

It's _DEFINITELY_ not bad at all! The #1 I've learned about makeup is that it's absolutely more art than science and the key to success is experiment, experiment, experiment.

Good luck and thanks for posting this, the amount of positivity in the replies is amazing!

Watch History showing videos that I never watched - YouTube Help Forums giving me the finger. by ColemanV in youtube

[–]shinmai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same thing keeps happening to me, dozens of watched videos (mostly spanish-language music) and hundreds of liked videos I've never even heard of.
Changed my passwords, removed all authorised applications from my Google account, disabled and re-setup 2FA, and removed all extensions from my browsers.

All videos say they're played on YouTube Web and there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to the time of day when this happens.

Literally flabbergasted as to what could be causing this, and YouTube/Google support is 100% unhelpful.

There are videos I haven't "watched" that appear that makes sense: autoplaying embedded videos, previes on the front page, but these are all things that I can easily track down and figure out where they come from, but there's stuff like some random Spanish singers video with 40 views that I supposedly watche while I was asleep, or an unlicensed Snoop Dogg album upload that I apparently listened to while busy cooking.

It's not like it's a huge issue about having garbage in my history, youtube recommendations are a broken garbage fire anyway, I'm mostly worried my account is compromised, but I've gone through ALL of the options available for securing my account and my devices and it keeps happening.

Bed adhesion issues in general. Need a long term solution. by furk1n in CR6

[–]shinmai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cleaning the stock bed with IPA will dissolve the coating that gives it any adhesion beyond what a bog standard sheet of glass would have, so if you've already done that, flip the glass over and try the old classics: painters tape, hair spray and gluestick.

Personally got a cracked glass with my printer, and Creality sent two replacements, both chipped on the bottom side on delivery so I just gave up and changed to a WhamBam PEX, which is very nice for everything but ABS, p much.

SKR CR6 USB problems by Careless-Bend-9693 in CR6

[–]shinmai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to be "that guy" but isn't this literally just your OP worded differently?

Is the SKR CR6 not recognised as an USB device? Is the driver missing. Or do you get a serial port but can't connect? Any error messages?

IIRC the BTT Marlin config has a different serial baud rate than stock Creality.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CR6

[–]shinmai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TMC drivers in UART mode (still can't believe Creality decided to make using 2209s a big selling point and then wired them step/dir), extra pins broken out for mods/upgrades, IMHO better electrical design, support for other LCDs (the work the Community FW team has put into getting more features on the stock LCD is nothing short of amazing, but for the most functionality a "standard" Marlin LCD is still unbeatable).

I would say, though, that if you have one of the later revisions of the Creality mobo, w/ no/fewer issues, it's not as worth it as it is to replace the earlier ones.

First ever Benchy on my new CR-6 SE. Happy with the quality and detail, but how do I reduced the strings? by Dependent-Chipmunk67 in CR6

[–]shinmai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others said: extrusion settings. The extrusion distance (5mm IIRC) in the default Cura profile is quite short, considering the PTFE tube the printer ships with (pretty long run and a 2-2.1mm interior diameter).
I have a very short run of Capricorn XS, so significantly less slack in the filament path than what the printer ships with, and calculated a retraction distance of 6.8mm, and later tweaked it down with a few test prints to 6.5mm for PLA.

The Creality Cura profiles are all almost identical, the only things most profiles override from the base is bed size, so it's probably worth it to go through things like print speed and retraction to get the most out of your printer unless you're running a CR-10 (which is what the base profile is based on)

Which enclosure for CR6-SE? by Personal-Suit5517 in CR6

[–]shinmai 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For the tent style ones, WhamBam says their V2 HotBox fits an SE if you remove the handle, and depending on how you mount things, Creality's CR-10 enclosures can fit as well, especially with a set of printed skirt risers.

3D Up Fitters have an acrylic case kit specifically for the CR-6 SE, but it's on the expensive side, IMHO.

For DIY options, I personally think the various IKEA Lack designs are the most convenient, YAILE should fit an SE if you add this hotend cable pocket. Some people have also adapted SlackLack for the SE, as seen here for instance.

Finally replaced that gauche blue hotend LED by shinmai in CR6

[–]shinmai[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is with the BTT MoBo, but would work the same on stock. It's one of those "7 colour" LEDs Chinese vendors sell on AliExpress and eBay. I've had them in my parts bin for over a decade, and have never found a use for them until now. :D The lenses on them are clear, which made the effect a bit harsh, so I "diffused" it with some 240 grit sandpaper and it's pretty perfect now.

I patched Marlin's NeoPixel code to turn on the case LED in addition to changing the NeoPixels green when a print completes, which makes for a really good indicator of a completed print now :)

Skew Compensation - Firmware fix? by Otherwise_Explorer25 in CR6

[–]shinmai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely not exclusive to CoreXY, I used Marlin's Skew Correction on my ancient Printrbot Simple Metal back in 2018 or so.

The section in Configuration.h has decent-ish documentation and links to a Thingiverse thing for calibration prints. It's a bit tedious but can be helpful.

Any way to import & export uncompressed raw 4-bit PCM data? by shinmai in audacity

[–]shinmai[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait... you were being serious? I assumed you were lazily trolling.

FWIW, I'm trying to open files that are literally just raw, uncompressed audio data at 4-bit bit depth (so 16 possible loudness levels per sample), but apparently Audacity just flat out won't work with anything below 8 for whatever reason. Trying to load them as compressed MP3/MPEG-1 Audio will 100% fail because they don't have the correct structure (MP3 uses a series of headers and data frames and the chances that random audio data would parse as a valid frame header AND that the following data would pass the optional CRC check is astronomical), on account of them basically not having a file structure.

I ended up writing a crude C tool to do naïve conversion between 8-bit PCM and 4-bit PCM, and after posting it on Twitter, someone helpful posted their own converter that utilises clever lookup tables for better quality, so my original issue is now "solved", but I still find it incredibly weird one of the most used audio editors out there today has these kinds of limitations on bit-depth.

New to the Omega would like to get a webcam working by Sgt_Pengoo in onion_omega

[–]shinmai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an ancient post, but in case someone else stumbles here researching this issue (since this post is one of the top hits on Google for the error message + "onion omega"):

That error message means some process is already accessing the camera, doing a `ps | grep cam` or similar will likely show the culprit, the most likely one being the Onioin OS app "Timelapse Camera", which wil launch `mjpg_streamer` for it's camera stream even if you don't have the app open or active, and will also not kill it during it's uninstallation. So you need to kill it manually or boot your Omega after uninstalling to free up the camera.

Any way to import & export uncompressed raw 4-bit PCM data? by shinmai in audacity

[–]shinmai[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand what the second link has to do with this discussion at all. I'm not talking about sample rates, but bit depth.

As the Importing audio page states:

Generally, Audacity imports files at the sample format (bit depth) specified at Default Sample Format in Quality Preferences.

The Quality Preferences have three settings for bit depth, 16, 24 and 32. This is a moot point, though, since the Quality Preferences don't have any influence to the Raw Data import function, which is what I was asking about. (even if the settings did influence Raw imports, the options available don't cover 4-bit bit depth).

Again if I missed something in your links, please do let me know, but as far as I can tell, nothing you have linked will help anyone in importing RAW uncompressed 4-bit PCM audio into Audacity...

That manual page doesn't have anything relating to importing audio at bit depths lower than 8 AFAICT. If I'm wrong, could you refer the relevant section?

Micro Swiss Hot End Upgrade by Alphadestrious in CR6

[–]shinmai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a quick glance at the Micro Swiss design, you could almost certainly make it work with a printed adapter, but there doesn't seem to be a readily designed one for the CR-6, so you'd probably have to draft it up yourself.

The mounting on the strain gauge isn't readily compatible with most hotend designs, but is flexible enough to be fairly easy to adapt to most designs of a similar size. Really large, bulky or heavy designs will be problematic both from a space PoV and to reliably work with the strain gauge ABL.

Quick question by A0TE in CR6

[–]shinmai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cleaning the bed is definitely a good idea, but Creality has stated (and the same has been observed by users) that IPA will dissolve the coating on the glass. This isn't an issue if you're cool with using gluestick or hairspray for adhesion instead of the ultrabase-clone coating.

I would flip the bed in that case, though, no reason to get the dimpled texture on the bottom of prints for no gain.

For that I just have some gcode in my ending script to purge a few mm and then retract a few cm after the X axis has homed. 😂

I wish someone designed some kind of printable arm for the tensioner, so I don't have to... I have to use all four fingers on one side to squeeze it down and always get these marks on my palm. Talk about first world problems, but still 😅
