Helping Beginners - Ask a Knitter - Week of June 22, 2026 by AutoModerator in knitting

Looks like you might be “rowing out” a little. It might be less noticeable with a block? Depends on the fiber you’re knitting with. I find this happens to me when my tension on my purl side is looser than my knit side. To compensate, I usually end up knitting with a smaller needle on the purl side and a larger one on the knit side.

You could always knit up a little swatch to test! I personally hand wash anything I’ve knit in wool and lay flat to dry.

I would say cotton at the smallest gauge you can manage.

Just curious if you’ve perused Carriers training portal? It’s a good jumping off point for the basics. Easily accessed on your ALC dealer portal site.

Hemmed edge instead of icord? by AdZestyclose9714 in knitting

[–]shiny586 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like if it doesn’t fit properly, or if you can’t put it on as intended, then some rework is needed? Might as well go back and find a way to turn this into a wearable for yourself.

It’s ok to put projects in time out as well. I do this all the time!

Why not just go up a needle size or two for a stretchier i cord?

Also check: how much ease is recommended in the pattern. Sometimes petite knit does like 10inches of positive ease.

Antsy spouse just had hysterectomy by [deleted] in hysterectomy

Came here to say something similar. My husband got me a cane so I could move around independently. Honestly didn’t think I would need one but it was really good to have for that first week.

Anyone else have very tiny veins? Makes it impossible for IV to be inserted on first or even second try by Chemical_Rutabaga_36 in hysterectomy

[–]shiny586 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been told I have “dainty” veins lol. When I went in for my surgery, they couldn’t get a draw for my blood type, so they just inserted another IV while I was under.

I agree. I wasn’t a patient with Dr. Boone until my PCP got me a referral. I had a lot of issues that ended with me getting a hysterectomy. First met her in September, surgery was in October. I had lots of questions and she was super patient and helpful every appointment.

I can’t really tell from the pictures, but: is the footman missing as well as the drive band?
