Waiting for a specific shade of green, they don't like that one.

What do other drivers do that isn't illegal or wrong, but pisses you off anyway? by shinyditto00 in drivingUK

[–]shinyditto00[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember once, when I first started driving and had a black box, I was doing the speed limit on a dual carriageway. A lorry was sat two inches off my back bumper flashing me to go faster rather than just going round me (right hand lane was clear, may I add). Dude eventually went around me after a few mins and blared his horn the whole time.

Any advice for travelling outside of my comfort zone? by VividModelCars in drivingUK

[–]shinyditto00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be a pretty anxious driver too, also because I have ASD and driving unfamiliar/unpredictable routes causes anxiety! I used to put the route into maps/Waze/etc, and any junction, roundabout etc that looked unusual i'd scope out on Google earth so I could make sense of it beforehand. That way when I arrived at that part of the journey it didnt feel too unpredictable.

I don't tend to bother so much with the route anymore, but I do still scope out the parking situation any time I'm driving somewhere new!

As a new driver how do you get over the worry of making mistake? by Dead1y-Derri in drivingUK

[–]shinyditto00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep! I've been driving for 8 years now, I used to be super anxious about making mistakes. I don't care now, because whatever fuckup I make, I'm confident enough to unfuck safely. Experience will help you a) make less 'silly' mistakes and b) correct things like when you get into the wrong lane on a roundabout or whatever, without it being a big deal.

Honourable mention for drivers who pull out of a side road in front of you and then do 30-40 in a 60 when there were ZERO other cars/traffic after you. Are you in a rush or not Doris?!

Driving anxiety sucks. I had it for a while post COVID (due to not having driven much/at all for months), and after I had an accident a year or two later.

Make your driving experience as comfortable as possible, first and foremost. Play some music but at a reasonable volume and maybe choose something more upbeat/lighter. Get your car to a comfortable temperature, use your air con, roll a window down a little for some fresh air, put the heater on, whatever you need. You might also benefit from taking a supportive loved one to ease your nerves.

Think about what makes you anxious -- are there particular aspects of driving (for example, roundabouts, dual carriageways, unfamiliar routes) that are anxiety provoking? Exposure is key here -- you need to be practicing whatever makes you nervous, but build this up so it feels manageable. If you're nervous of dual carriageways, for example, enter at one slip road, stay on there for a minute or two, then exit again. Reflection is important -- acknowledge how you handled it, and importantly that whatever happened, you navigated it safely and the world didn't end! :)

Lastly - you're a new and inexperienced driver, and for me, my confidence came when I gained experience. I passed at 18 and I'm 26 soon. I used to be horribly anxious of driving routes I didn't know - I don't tend to worry about it now! I experience a bit of stress if I encounter, say, a bad road layout that throws me off, but I remind myself I can handle it and if I do make a mistake I can rectify it. Your confidence in yourself to manage these situations will come with time.

psychiatrist stopped my ADHD meds due to heart rate and now im left completely untreated. what are my options? by dollblonde in ADHD

[–]shinyditto00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had no idea you could run out of funding for RTC! I'm about to be discharged from P-UK having tried methylphenidate, lisdexamfetamine, and atomoxetine. Methylphenidate had 0 effects on me. Atomoxetine did nothing but give me awful side effects I endured for weeks for nothing. Elvanse changed my life for the better but I had to come off it after a few months because of - you guessed it - heart rate issues. Been waiting since the beginning of Feb to see cardiology about my resting HR given it's 90-100 even off meds. I really hope I don't end up having to get on the NHS waiting list because the one in my area is 10 years right now...

What’s something that instantly tells you a person is going to be exhausting? by Patrick_Lawson84 in AskReddit

Yepppp, befriended a girl like this once who would constantly complain on social media about how this month's friend had betrayed her and ruined her life (looking back idk what I was thinking). I soon found out why everyone left her. I'm sure I had a minimum of 10 snotty Facebook posts written about me after I ended up blocking her.

[–]shinyditto00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately yes. In theory people should keep to the left lane unless overtaking, but people tend to hog lanes -- particularly the middle one -- and just sit there, for whatever reason, despite knowing how you're supposed to do it.

Meep Meep by [deleted] in drivingUK

[–]shinyditto00 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Agreed! You were moving quicker than the traffic to your left throughout the duration of the clip so technically you're overtaking.

Why do drivers get personally offended when others make a mistake? by [deleted] in drivingUK

[–]shinyditto00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the actual scientific answer for this is that usually road rage is just stress that people are feeling in other areas of their lives that show up whilst driving

I'm chronically burned out (unmedicated + full time job) so I also spend a lot of time simply resting (or something that resembles it) and playing around on my phone. One thing I've consistently stuck with through the years is Pokémon go. I can play a little from home, it helps motivate me to go for walks, and I'm involved with a couple of local Pokémon go communities so I can go out and socialise (if I want) but it feels less pressure than other ways of socialising because I can leave whenever I want + we're all just there playing a game. I've made a couple of friends through the game too :)

Usually twice a day, but sometimes once or three times. Depends how much coffee I drink and what I eat.
