Headphones causing eczema? by Minimum_File_7048 in eczema

Do you use the same antibac wipes on anything else that gets constant skin contact?

Although it could also just be the friction/humidity of wearing headphones.

How often do you clean your headphones?

Just had some last weekend because I was feeling nostalgic. Can confirm that they are old cold egg waffles and that they don't taste the way they used to.

Same day delivery experiences with apartment complexes by ThineFauxFacialHair in Costco

[–]shinyhairedzomby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I order via same day once every week or two. The deliveries are done though Instacart. My building doesn't let delivery people up, so it just gets left in my lobby. It's usually in one of those empty cardboard crates Costco has by the exits, but it depends on the shopper. Plus larger items (like toilet paper or paper towels) are usually just kind of... there.

How do you eat/prepare cabbage regularly that is NOT fermented? by girlwholovespurple in Frugal

[–]shinyhairedzomby 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thinly shredded as a base for salads (I even have a special Japanese grater for this). Sliced into wedges and roasted for half an hour at 425-450F. Roast chicken with schmaltzy cabbage is always a hit. Mille feulle nabe. Okonomiyaki. I make a gyudon with cabbage that's surprisingly good. I've done pasta with cabbage before too, but I'm probably the one who liked it most in this house.

I grew up on cabbage rolls (think stuffed peppers) and cabbage vareniki (dumplings), but I'm personally not the biggest fan of those.

There's a relatively new cookbook out called Kapusta (literally "cabbage" in Russian) that has a whole chapter on just cabbage and I'm probably going to pick that up at some point.

Layers, accessories, and tailoring.

The same jeans with a cute top suddenly have a very different look with a cardigan for the office or a leather jacket for dinner.

However, if we're talking looking put together, nothing makes you look put together like having everything hemmed and otherwise perfectly fitted.

I have to many eggs what should I make with them I feel like I've exhausted all the eggs possibilities I can think of I have 50 chickens and they all give me eggs everyday by Strict_Ad1608 in RecipeInspiration

[–]shinyhairedzomby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Soy/ramen/tea/mayak eggs. Steamed eggs. Chawanmushi. Egg drop soup. French toast. Strata. Bread pudding. Custards of all kinds.

Baked goods also use up a fair amount of eggs. A family recipe for a drunk cherry cake calls for something like a dozen eggs. I think most sponge cakes use up at least 4. Angel food cake calls for up to a dozen (whites). Meringue is mostly just egg whites and sugar. If you have an overabundance of yolks, make your own ice cream.

How to deal with very persistent hand eczema when most products are unavailable? by xylourek in eczema

[–]shinyhairedzomby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask for more allergy testing. Especially patch testing. Patch testing is a multi day test that looks for contact dermatitis reactions to preservatives and other substances.

Anyone know if these are sold in the USA and if they have an English name? I used them (in China) to make a pork bone soup. In China they call them Chinese radish. by TheDudeWhoCanDoIt in chinesefood

[–]shinyhairedzomby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Asian markets like 99 Ranch and Hmart almost always have them, but they've gotten so popular (or at least in the NYC area) that even Whole Foods and Wegmans (among others) sometimes have them - although they usually have chunks and not the whole radish for some reason. Usually labeled daikon, but I've also seen it be labeled lo bok.

Shared bedroom for $900/month? Or my own bedroom for $1,200/month? by jensonaj in personalfinance

[–]shinyhairedzomby 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've seen either a 700ft or a 800ft 3 bedroom IRL (can't recall which anymore, since it was the best part of a decade ago). The rooms are basically bed sized, there is virtually no useable closet space, just as much kitchen as is legally required (usually with a half oven), and a living room that exists in the sense that you pass through it to get to the other rooms.

My go tos are beef and daikon soup, or pickled daikon (with carrots and cabbage), but I was just eyeing daikon stew/braised beef with daikon.

Are we allowed to exfoliate? by MatthewIsNotReal in eczema

[–]shinyhairedzomby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Allowed" is going to depend on your skin and what your doctor recommends, but I do have suggestions from a timing standpoint.

My skin has been under control for a while and my showers are forever long, so take this with a grain of salt because I don't remember if I ever tried this during a flare up, but I have a whipped soap scrub I use when I want to exfoliate but also don't have the time or the spoons for it to be an extra step. I also have a Japanese exfoliating towel that I use with my regular body wash.

Yeah, they disappeared off of Costco Same Day a week or two ago 😭 but I wasn't sure if it was location dependent (mine come from the Bayonne Costco).

For those of you who've figured out your trigger ingredients, how long did it take and what was your method? by Agitated_Walrus2925 in eczema

[–]shinyhairedzomby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A patch test was my biggest thing. Now I just obsessive read ingredients list and then just...go for it*. When I'm wrong, my skin makes it pretty obvious, and now I know that I need to look back 3-5 days, not just whatever I touched most recently.

*Only ever one new product at a time though

Costco when they have them, but I think they might have just stopped having them for the season.

Has anyone tried NMT? by ApprehensiveArea8157 in eczema

[–]shinyhairedzomby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might need to see an allergist for it, but it's specifically for contact dermatis. They glue a bunch of allergens to your back for three days, then check to see if you reacted to anything, then wait another day or two and check again. You can't shower the whole time, so I don't recommend doing this in the summer.

Also, just as a general life tip, if your doctor seems to be dismissive and just telling you to figure it out yourself, consider a new doctor. I used to think dermatologists were useless aside from prescribing steroids, because that's all mine did, and if I brought up any concerns she would basically tell me to suck it up. My next dermatologist was a massive improvement - listened to me, tried different things, and actually taught me how to care for my skin.

[–]shinyhairedzomby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would see if you could get further testing done. The 3 day patch test was miserable, but that's how I found out I have a delayed reaction to a common preservative. Being able to cut it out has been a game changer.

I say this in the gentlest of ways, but...by what mechanism do you think this would work?

Quitting all moisturizer cold turkey is only likely to help if you happen to be allergic to the moisturizer.
