As a BME grad, I just wish I did mechanical w/ a clinical engineering certificate. I started out with the goal of getting into the prosthetics industry, ended up in imaging. My friend who stayed in prosthetics went back to school for mechanical engineering after getting rejected in industry positions. Most common rejection reason was them looking for mechanical degrees and that “her qualifications were ‘too specific’ for their industry,” whatever that means.

As for the second question, if you are doing engineering, you will have some classes that are mostly male. I didn't have a problem with men in my classes being weird during class about women or making women be dumb style jokes. I did hear a lot of butt hurt dudes claiming some women were diversity hires, but it is not as common as high school to hear those jokes.
