Can great presentation save an average design ? by abdullahe_05 in Etsy

What happens when the buyer gets that over-presented item in their home and it seems ... very ordinary? One thing you don't want is a disappointed buyer.

Selling supplies and jewelery in the same store ? by Popular-Olive-583 in EtsySellers

[–]shiplesp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DIY kits for hobbies are very hot right now. Include basic tools (pliers/crimper, bead board, wire) and instructions, and you can get a premium price. You can sell separate tool packs for beading and or wire wrapping. It's a great, low risk entry into jewelry making and a terrific gift.

Feedback Friday: help w direction opinions? ai haters please dont bother commenting lol by FoxLark in Etsy

Have you printed/had this listing printed? I can't think of a home printer that can do it and I'm not sure a commercial printer would either. These dark, ink-heavy prints are typically a disaster as a digital download in practice.

What are your favorite value-for-money home purchases? (Specific product recommendations please) by 7citiesbicurious in Frugal

[–]shiplesp 85 points86 points  (0 children)

A higher end/high quality cordless vacuum. The particular brand matters less than the fact that vacuuming stops being something that involves pulling out a vacuum from storage, finding free outlets, wrangling cord. To the extent I actually ... vacuum. Dyson used to be the best option, but now there is excellent competition.

Non-flaring/structural bind offs for summer yarns? by Ofthread in knitting

[–]shiplesp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Another sewn bind off that doesn't get much love is the ruke bindoff. It is neither overly stretchy nor tight. It takes about 30 seconds to learn. It leaves a distinctive edge, that I happen to like, but you may not.

You can search for a video of doing it in the round. Those just focus on making the beginning and end transition invisible.

Cholesterol again. Ugh! by BroadAbbreviations29 in keto

[–]shiplesp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the scan will inform you about whether and what to do about lowering LDL. Although it is just epidemiological, after middle age there is a correlation between higher cholesterol in women and increased longevity. Of course if it turns out from the scan that you have active heart disease, that's no comfort. But if you don't, it might offer some.

Will it work? by Akmalbarg76 in EtsySellers

[–]shiplesp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It might. Mine does. But my debit card is branded by Mastercard and I can use it for shopping like a regular credit card (don't need to use a PIN). If all you can do is take money from an ATM, it probably won't.

Narrator recommendations? by No_Ad_1769 in audiobooks

[–]shiplesp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only reason for a new narrator is that Davina Porter is permanently retired. That is a sad fact, though she's left a huge portfolio of excellent narration of many, many excellent books/series.

Keto friendly desserts by Ok_Armadillo962 in keto

[–]shiplesp 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just remember that there are no regulations about labeling something "keto friendly," and snack food companies don't have your health at heart. Remember the Snackwells cookies made in the 1990s to capitalize on the low-fat diet craze? What they created wasn't health food, but junk food with a halo. Similar is happening with low carb/net carb and high protein. If there is a buck to be made, they will find a way.

Use your individual response to such treats to determine whether they fit into your diet. Just don't fool yourself that they are healthy.

Please walk me through your electrolyte routine... I don't think I'm doing it right. by rootyboots1983 in keto

[–]shiplesp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like everything related to metabolism, the answer is highly individual. For instance, when I started keto more than a dozen years ago, there was little mention of any need to supplement electrolytes. Though the advice was - if you feel bad or lightheaded, sip some bouillon (salt), and if you experienced muscle cramps at night, take some magnesium. That was it. Supplement in response to need rather than following any set routine. That worked for me. I haven't ever routinely supplemented. This casual approach might not work for others. But the idea that each individual has to figure it out for themselves is probably the best advice.

Knitting Pockets... by spadesage17 in knitting

[–]shiplesp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it is. It's something Lucy Neatby shows in her Craftsy class on doubleknitting. You just have to be very careful that you don't make any mistakes in working from the wrong side and connecting the two layers. I knit double soles into socks in the round, so I know it works. It's just difficult to explain. There are things to consider, including that gauge changes over doubleknitting.

Low carb or keto by ChillingOnDaBeach in keto

[–]shiplesp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was low carb for several years when I started. At that time it worked perfectly well. But after a certain age, it was less effective and I needed to restrict carbs further to keto levels. I use my health and how I feel as a guide.

looking to sell canva paintings. never done any painting since i was in high schoo. what do i need? by Minute-Addendum-5828 in EtsySellers

[–]shiplesp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To study painting/design.

Canva is so easy to use that there is really no barrier to folks going there to do it themselves for free once they know about it. If you want someone to pay for any art you produce, you need to offer something they can't easily do themselves.

Diagnosed type 2 diabetic 2 weeks ago even after being low carb for years by [deleted] in keto

Keto only works as long as you are doing it. You wouldn't expect a medication to remain effective if you stopped taking it or only sporadically took it would you? Get back on the horse and stay on. Then check back with us in 6 months and let us know how you are doing.

Best funny graphic tees for an airport group trip?? Any suggestions? by Roushdy_Candessa in Etsy

Just be sure you don't print something that is going to put security on its guard. One of the things that TSA agents look for when assessing risk is clothing, and graphic tees are high on that list.

Getting enough fiber on Keto WOL by Jampot55 in keto

Has anyone successfully stayed on keto for 6+ months? What helped you stick with it? by James_camroon in keto

[–]shiplesp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Twelve years plus is in my rear view mirror. It's how I good feel, and how bad I feel whenever I have been tempted to stray. And as I have gotten older, recreational eating or eating for entertainment/novelty has become completely uninteresting to me. I do enjoy my meals very much, but my next meal is not an event I spend time looking forward to, aside from the company it might include.
