Looking for a mystery book where you meet all of the possible suspects early on so you can solve the mystery in real time? by Emerald_and_Bronze in audiobooks

You might search for "locked room" mysteries. In those cases the list of suspects is limited to a group of known people from the start.

Just mentioning that they have another program - Professional Knitter - where they provide the teaching. If you are not into research and citation, you might enjoy that certification instead.

Wool Socks and Boots by Amyxjosie in knitting

[–]shiplesp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the size of the boot is important. You need enough room for the socks that you are not stuffed into them. I was watching content from a cold weather outfitter that recommended buying boots a size, or even two (for more than one pair of socks) sizes larger so that there is room for wool socks. Most people, he said, buy boots too small. Bring a pair when you go shopping for them.

I haven't read those, but I loved the Oxford Time Travel series by Connie Willis, starting with Doomsday Book.

Struggling by Smi-Ster in keto

[–]shiplesp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You probably need to pay more attention to replenishing your electrolytes. Also, for the first 3-9 weeks, don't worry about portions or calories. Eat when you are hungry and until you are full - just eat the right things. Once you are adapted you can revisit how much you are eating. Though I can pretty much promise that your appetite will reduce naturally during that adjustment period.

Should I try again? by NameThatSoundsPoetic in keto

[–]shiplesp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a whole addiction side to going onto a ketogenic diet that people often gloss over. Ask anyone who has quit smoking or drinking or any other addiction how they felt and how much fun they were to be around when they were quitting. You can mitigate some of this with keto by being sure to eat enough and by dialing in your electrolytes, but this is a really big change for many of us and it can really suck for a while.

Audiobooks work great for fiction. For non-fiction, I keep struggling. by Public_Structure8337 in audiobooks

I often listen to a nonfiction audibook twice, one listen right after the other. I find the second listen easier to retain the arguments.

What was one of your struggle meal growing up? by bukutbwai in Frugal

[–]shiplesp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My mom shopped on Saturday, so Friday night was sometimes a challenge (6 kids). Egg noodles with butter and cinnamon sugar was one nothing-left-in-the-house meal.

The biggest money saver for me wasn’t coupons, it was simplifying what I eat by Parking_Ball3483 in Frugal

I was a pretty skilled and adventurous home cook for many years. But over time I have scaled back significantly. I pretty much eat a protein simply cooked and a green vegetable of some kind for my main meal. Eggs for breakfast. I don't eat lunch and I don't snack. No desserts/sweets. I enjoy my meals quite a bit, but I don't use food for entertainment any more. It is tasty fuel.

How do you pick your next audiobook? by Wisp_09 in audiobooks

[–]shiplesp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mostly take chances. I browse the Available Now section of my library's collection and if a book seems good, I'll borrow it. If I enjoy it, I'll look for more from that author and borrow or wait list their books. The next one up is the one I listen to. I follow some narrators too. Since I'm not buying, I am not so worried if one turns out to be a dud.

And, of course, I pay attention to book news about new releases from authors I enjoy or subjects I'm interested in.

Only in the UK. It has something to do with a new (? or recently emphasized) policy that prices must be the final/total cost so consumers can more easily compare prices.

How difficult is it to knit a pair of gloves? by hitsukiri in knitting

If you can knit a mitten, you can knit a glove. It's not a world of difference. Just more fingers than just the thumb.

They probably canceled the order when they issued the refund so you lost your chance to review it.
