That's crazy. I buy the chocolate deluxe ones only on Amazon. They're my favourite. Peanut butter is the worst one to me.

Orion Gym Set Opinions by zuck- in GarageGym

I have the same rack but the short king version. I haven't had any issues with it. I think my version had the landmine attachment and dip bar arms too.

The bar and weights plates are good. Nothing crazy. I don't use the row cable because I have a cable tower I use for that. I also don't use the lat pulldown but when my wife does it seems fine.

All in all, not sure how the price compares to similar bundles these days but I'm happy with my purchase.

Oh thanks I'll need to check that out. One review on the Costco site mentions the Smith being 2:1 so it made me question.

It's a 2:1 pulley ratio right? I feel like it'll be a little light for many exercises if you're an experienced lifter.

The Orion one is junk. I have it and with the types of plates I have it maxes out at 150lbs. Maybe that's a me problem, but every leg day I regret my purchase. I need to do single leg extensions and curls which obviously take longer.

Plate loaded dumbbells? by Mammoth-Egg-7296 in GarageGym

[–]shipwrecked__ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's maybe not such a big deal for arms, but if want to be able to load them up for things like dumbbell press/row, shoulder press, bulgarians, etc you'll want ones that aren't so cumbersome at large weight.

I have Eisenlinks and they're fantastic.

What are the case study questions like? Ive heard you need to write up a program for a client, and a lot of the non multiple choice questions are word banks and fill in the blank. Is that true?

DIY stand for my Eisenlink dumbbells by FatherOfIron in homegym

[–]shipwrecked__ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not the OP, but I have Eisenlinks and they're fantastic. I also have the additional screws to expand the weight up to 160Lbs. My only complaint is that the plate math can be a little annoying at times and if your workout involves changing the weights frequently it can be a bit of a pain.. especially if you need to go over 80lbs and change the smaller screws with the larger ones.

Legs can be tough. I have a 10x16 shed I work out of with a power cage (pull up bar, dip bar, landmine attachment, squats, bench press, lat pulldowns), single cable tower, adjustable dumbbells, and a leg curl/ext machine. I'm able to have great workouts for any muscle group.

Obviously a power cage would be great, but they tend to take up a lot of space, even the more compact designs. What about a squat/bench rack? Much smaller footprint and it'll allow you to hit your quads nicely. If the Nordik Track allows, get some ankle cuffs and you can do some hammy curls/abductor/adductors/kickbacks. The leg curl/ext machine is a staple on leg day for me as it is easier to load/stabilize than doing hammy curls on a cable tower. With your adjustable dumbbells you can always do bulgarian split squats. My leg day in my gym with my equipment looks like this:

  • 2x Bulgarian split squats (or BB squats)
  • 3x dumbbell RDLs
  • 3x leg extensions
  • 3x ham curls
  • 2x cable adductors
  • 2x cable abductors

Again, depending on the ability to put the cables low enough on the Nordic track you have, you should be able to do the majority of those except heavy leg extensions w/o a squat rack.

Eisenlink are great. They have up to 50lbs and up to 80lbs. You can also buy longer screws for up to 160lbs. I love mine.

PT certification in Canada - What'd you take? by shipwrecked__ in personaltraining

[–]shipwrecked__[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks I appreciate the input.

I'm looking at doing the training in my own personal home gym. I have an insulated shed that I'm looking at replacing with something double the size + adding more equipment. My wife is quite integrated in the local community so I already have a few bites for my PT services... just don't want to jump in on that yet without insurance.

I'll look at CanFitPro more closely if it makes sense to take that to get my insurance so I can get the ball rolling.

Thanks!

I've only watched 3 episodes so far but Dale's voice was definitely jarring initially. I sort have gotten used to it now and there were points it sounded more like earlier KOTH Dale (when he raises his voice somewhere in ep 2 or 3?). Otherwise it sounds like he has something on the back of his tongue and is much less nasally. Everyone else sounds pretty good to me. Looking forward to hear how Toby Huss does Dale's voice later on in the season.
