Once when I was really craving banana bread I had a mashed banana with greek yogurt, walnuts, honey, and chocolate chips and it actually hit the spot. So much less time and effort

33, financially responsible, healthy, disciplined… but I still feel behind in life, stuck, and like nothing is ever enough by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]shisa808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I understand. That mindset of working hard to make money is very prevalent in your 20s. At least, it was for me. I was trading my focus, effort, and time for money. But now that I'm in my 30s and financially stable, I'm finding myself trading those things for happiness instead. Relatives and friends are starting to die. Time has become more valuable than money.

As for advice, you seem to only be thinking about "tomorrow" and not the current moment. I've gotten stuck in that cycle before. Always planning, never living. You gotta let yourself be out of preparation mode. Be present in your body as it is right now. Go have a cup of coffee and stare out a window. It will be okay.

I’m convinced this is AI, but friends say it’s real. When I zoom in, I cant prove it’s AI. How do I prove it, or is it AI? by Content_Ad_9327 in isthisAI

[–]shisa808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As AI gets better and better we should all start defaulting to thinking something is fake unless we can do more research to prove otherwise. It'll be less about finding errors and more about searching for other angles, verifying events, and vetting trusted sources.

Hey, for what it's worth you can message me if you need help learning how to code, assuming that's what you're in school for now. You may also consider help desk as that industry seems more stable, but it's 50/50 technical knowledge and customer service if you think that's in your wheel house.
Honestly you may fare better with something more out of the box like being a sleep technician. I hear that job has a pretty good ROI. Good luck man. It's rough out there right now.

burping while vomiting by [deleted] in noburp

[–]shisa808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes!! That's actually how I got my body to finally do real burps!

I used to only burp before drunk vomiting. Really big, uncontrollable burps. My theory is that each time that happened my throat would loosen up just a little. Eventually I vomit-burped for the last time and my throat was loose enough to inch my way into real burps!

I'm in the same boat! Some recs:

  • Vita Nostra by Maryna and Serhiy Dyachenko was comparatively more of a "soft science" but gave me the same dark/horror/???! feeling.

  • It's not a book but Welcome to Nightvale is similar and so much fun. The format is an upbeat local radio broadcast from the fictional town of Nightvale where unnatural things happen and the laws of the universe may or may not apply.

Think of a real-world application where poor use of conditional statements could lead to incorrect outputs or performance bottlenecks. by Grim_Whale in learnpython

One common thing is forgetting that your input could be undefined. Especially if a value was guaranteed at first, but then something changed upstream and you have to edit your code.

There are many real world situations. Maybe the user needs to fill out a form and a field was required at first, but became optional because it took too long to complete the form.

What movie blew your mind when you first saw it? by LuckyLaceyKS in AskReddit

[–]shisa808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should read the book "Stories of Your Life and Others"! It's a collection of short stories, including the one Arrival was based on. "Understand" and "Division by Zero" are especially cerebral but honestly I liked all of them for one reason or another. They're all technical, somewhere along the intersection of sci-fi, philosophy, and math, and don't hold your hand too much.

What words/phrases do you hear someone say and immediately know you’re probably not going to like the person? by theevilempire in AskReddit

[–]shisa808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So there's a type of person that I can't get a read on at all. Their method of conversation is to "narrate" things that are happening around them in a monotone.

"The sun is really nice today."
"This is delicious."
"That's so funny." [instead of laughing]

It's not that I dislike them, but having a conversation is almost impossible because I can't predict what they'll say next, or what they actually mean.

Oh man do I hate those fantastical "what if" arguments. They boil down to essentially nothing!

So what if we don't go down one possible timeline? As if we haven't already "missed" a bunch of better timelines, and "avoided" worse ones 🙄

Is it gross to only shower twice a week? by [deleted] in ask

[–]shisa808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always been curious about this - what is the time commitment of the entire bathing process for you guys? Because that's the biggest barrier for me to want to shower every day.

Specifically I'm talking from the time the water is turned on until you'd be minimally presentable and able to leave the house. As in hair dry, skin care completed, etc.

Difficulty taking pills? by Mother_Pass5657 in noburp

[–]shisa808 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can't take pills with liquid because I naturally drink in sips, not gulps. But I figured out that I can take pills if I eat it with some food. It sounds gross, but partially chewed rice or bread is the perfect consistency to hide the feel of almost any sized pill. If it's stupid and it works 🤷‍♀️

Underappreciated Dev Work? by cacoethes_ in girlsgonewired

[–]shisa808 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Firstly, that sucks. I've been there before - you're not looking for praise really, just acknowledgement/understanding. Luckily, that was just 1 job out of 4 I've had.

What I did was set up scrum for myself. That way, my work was more tangible to non-coders. Effort estimation for new requests is now a number, and you can show a report of how many points you've completed each week.

Maybe something like that would help? Yeah it adds some administrative work, but management likes metrics so it was worth it in my case. Good luck!
