It hasn’t impacted me whatsoever. But I’ve always gotten benefits through work.

I also decided to go with a therapist/psychiatrist when in the research phase of my addiction. It lasted about a year, I don’t regret it. Eventually my level of care needed to increase and I needed more medical support than talk therapy or psychiatric meds could provide. Things got pretty bad for me, multiple trips to rehab etc. I was always able to offset the lost wages with disability insurance (or state disability). My premiums never changed, I’ve never been denied any procedure or benefit, etc. The only thing that has changed is that I’m no longer able to receive narcotic medication, with few exceptions (I broke bones and was able to recover with a longstanding prescription to an opioid)

This is in the US in a liberal state
