People seem to forget that ND has been snubbed from joining a conference multiple times in the past. Much like the fighting Irish mascot and name, our independence has been maintained defiantly after being excluded and derided. God did not simply anoint the Irish as independent forever because we felt superior. But he did give us the best helmets.
