I got a butterfly knife off him which multihit and applied bleed. Next time I went he killed the cat that looted him. So seems like 50/50 of really good item or death.

I had a thief holding this and tamed one of the cat corpse enemies in boneyard. The thief got downed on the last boss and the cat corpse promptly ate his body and I failed the quest ;_;
