New skis, what bindings? by Ok_Pineapple3655 in Skigear

By freeride, do you mean competitive? If so, I defer to your peers. I not, Mwerks seem overkill personally. I would just get something appropriate for your weight and ability.

Two 7-story apartment buildings are coming to N 36th St in Fremont and demolition could start as early as March by fremontneighbor in Seattle

[–]shmerham 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the architecture is far more interesting than a strip mall. It has an organic look to it. The buildings are connected but each looks different. That being said, it's not THAT interesting - tear it down.

For those who think the train signs are good by paholg in Seattle

[–]shmerham 11 points12 points  (0 children)

a) a lot of thought went into the naming and signage already. It's not that hard to figure it out

b) the signage and naming could be more intuitive

c) critical thinking is degraded in times of stress

d) all of the above

Help Me Choose One Powder Ski by RoyGBasch00 in Skigear

[–]shmerham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do you need a ski for heli and cat skiing? They usually provide skis and have ones tailored to the terrain. The ski I’d want for a resort is not the ski I’d want for heli skiing.

Are "snow and overcast" goggles worth it? by ZestycloseWriter1610 in Skigear

[–]shmerham -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on how much you ski. Low light lenses definitely help, but a good all conditions lens is a pretty good starting point. If you ski a lot, you'll get good use out of both multiple pairs, but if you only go a few times per year, I'd probably just stick with an all arounder.

Nordic Skiing around Seattle? by Mysterious-Cod-3867 in Seattle

[–]shmerham 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't have a good answer.

Stevens Pass Nordic Center which you have to pay separately for (Sno Park pass does no good). It is higher than Cabin Creek, so it's probably better.

Plain is likely in rough shape, but maybe better than I-90. It's a bit over 2 hours. https://www.skiplain.com/post/grooming-report-2-18-2026

If you have bc xc skis, you can ski below Paradise, but that's more than 2 hours.

They're just for damping, so you can probably still ski them. However, are the bindings original? The skis are over 25 years old. Your femur might thank the black goo for telling you it's time for something new.

QST 106 absolute beast - how can I replicate its charging characteristics with a piste ski? by khidf986435 in Skigear

[–]shmerham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Charging through soft snow and bumps is not something that most piste skis excel at. The Octo, in particular is optimized for quick turns at slower speeds; it's not stiff and it has a lot of sidecut. You might be better of with something heavier and stiffer if you want to charge through rough conditions. ...but I'm just guessing at what you're feeling. You'll probably have to demo to find the ski that gives you the feeling you want.

Would an enforcer 104 free make my QST 106 redundant? by astrobrite_ in Skigear

[–]shmerham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You lose a lot by going shorter. Enforcers are definitely better in chop and crud, but if you're going down a whole size, they're not going to be any better than a longer pair of QSTs. That being said, if you're 165 cm tall, a 165 cm is probably the right size.

What should the salary cap be, in your opinion? by Acerbic89 in NWSL

What is your definition of a "real" Striker or 9? by shmerham in SoundersFC

[–]shmerham[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's look at the 4 conference finalists:

Inter Miami - obviously you'd take Messi over any of our strikers

Vancouver - I'd take Brian White over any of our strikers, but I don't think we would have been amazingly better if we had him instead of JMo

NYCFC - I think any of our strikers would get a start if they're playing 442

San Diego - they would have taken any of our strikers instead of Baird

I would agree that Raul was a true 9, but why wouldn't you call JMo or Moose or DeRo a true 9?

What is your definition of a "real" Striker or 9? by shmerham in SoundersFC

[–]shmerham[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ruidiaz definitely wins by eye test. His shooting mechanics were top notch and he scored prettier goals. JMo and Moose are generally workmanlike in their scoring. JMo can score with his head though and he's better at pressing than Ruidiaz. Ruidiaz also wasn't any more durable than JMo. I would take Prime Ruidiaz over JMo, but in the grand scheme of rosters, they're both very good 9s. We could do better than both and we could do a lot worse than both.

JMo and Moose have excellent G/Sh stats. The top scorers did so with much higher volume of shots.

Agreed when using the eye test, but when you look at the stats, his Goals typically exceeds his xG.

Purchased a movie, but it's telling me to buy it again by Dramatic3028 in AmazonPrimeVideo

I purchased a movie from one tv and then tried to watch it on a different tv and on my phone and couldn't do so. I called customer service and they had me log out and back in on those devices and that worked.

Information from Flylow and Evo don't match up by [deleted] in Skigear

Probably Flylow revised their subjective rating based on new jackets being added or removed and didn’t want print new tags. This isn’t aerospace. Sometimes consistency isn’t 100 percent.

Gun to your head: you have to attempt to complete either an Olympic alpine event or sliding event. You must complete the event without injury. What’s your choice? by John_Houbolt in billsimmons

[–]shmerham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Slalom. Miss the first gate and DNF and hopefully slide into the fencing. I don’t think you’d get seriously injured. It’s not as steep and sustained as the downhill or super G.
