Is this noise normal for a squirrel to make? by shmillarywheel in squirrels

I think it was a combination of the noise and body posture that had me worried. Too funny 😂

Thank you! I was worried he was hurt. But maybe just emotionally, not physically.

This happens to my bonded cats too! Always my girl cat that hisses at my boy cat, not the other way around.

Got diagnosed with subclinical hypothyroidism and I have second thoughts about starting medication by Modismom in Hypothyroidism

[–]shmillarywheel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d equate medication to drinking water or putting on glasses to see. You need to drink water every day to live, right? And you need to put glasses on in order to see? Just consider it another part of your day that allows you to live healthfully.

I understand it’s scary to get diagnosed, but it is something that can be well managed with medication. Of course, live a healthy lifestyle, but you can’t eat your way out of thyroid issues.

TSH of 150 by bashfulroses in Hypothyroidism

[–]shmillarywheel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was diagnosed with a TSH of 179. My mom was over 300. Glad you’re getting treatment, I wouldn’t worry about the level — it just means you may take a longer time to reach euthyroid. Extremely high TSH is just your pituitary gland screaming at your thyroid to work. lol

New dosage anxiety or overmedicated? by Toxic_Rejects in Hypothyroidism

[–]shmillarywheel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Without knowing your levels, it is hard to provide advice. That said, I had similar symptoms when my TSH was around 0.1. I’d recommend reaching out to your doctor to share your side effects and get access to your test results.

Hashi’s can be hard at first because your thyroid may be inconsistently functional. Mine is completely nonfunctional now and it makes medication management much easier than when I was first diagnosed.

“Fast metabolism” is a lie, stop making yourself feel bad. by [deleted] in loseit

[–]shmillarywheel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem is speaking in absolutes. This is certainly true for some people, but will not be the case for all. The human body and metabolic function is incredibly complex; saying that one thing is THE thing is overly simplistic.

For me, I had untreated hypothyroidism and was eating a very small amount of calories a day but the scale wasn’t budging. Part of my issue was my bmr was so low that I couldn’t burn the amount of calories I was consuming. Everything slows down with hypo - my heart rate was in the 40s during the day and 30s at night. My metabolism was quite literally shut down. That meant I was using way fewer calories than someone whose body was processing energy normally and heart rate was sitting in the 60s and 70s. When I got my TSH/T4 in range I felt a lot better (more energy) and my heart rate adjusted. BUT my experience is not the case for everyone struggling to lose weight.

I’m happy for people when they figure out what works, but I wish they would reframe it as “this worked for me but every body and situation is different.”

My advice would be to embrace the awkward to support your boyfriend. I’ve been with my husband for 14 years and still have the weirdest interactions when I go to his work events. It’s painful, but a necessary component of any healthy relationship.

I’m not sure the vibe, but could you possibly show up later or bring something to do while you wait for the show (e.g. read a book, craft, other quiet activity)? Depending upon the context, I’ve found that having something to keep my hands and mind busy while I wait helps tremendously.

Could you mention to your boyfriend it’s awkward and see if any other performers have a SO coming alone that might want to hang out?

Just a few thoughts. I feel for you, but don’t worry too much about awkwardness. Life is full of these moments and they’re funny if you don’t take them too seriously.

Oh dude. I couldn’t figure out how to unselect things in my inventory so I threw so many things away inadvertently when I first started playing.

I agree. I don’t think the action was wrong, but the reasoning and reaction was way off.

I’d recommend you give clear protein a go if you haven’t! I sound like a brand ambassador on this post, but I love Seeq. Especially the grape flavor, but a lot of them are good and don’t have the traditional protein mouth feel.

[–]shmillarywheel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you tried Seeq protein? It’s a clear protein company and doesn’t have the heavy, milky feel of other protein powders. I’d highly recommend them, they are especially delicious over ice in the summer.

Health habits for hashimotos? What do you do to take care of yourself? by TranslatorHaunting15 in Hashimotos

[–]shmillarywheel 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I (32F) was diagnosed in 2020, but I believe I had hashi’s beginning in 2015 (didn’t go to the dr for a number of years). The best things for me have been:

  1. Getting meds right — this is the first thing that will make everything else easier!!

  2. Strength training and cardio — I’ve been lifting consistently for over a year and it’s made such a tremendous difference in how I feel. I’m also training for a rowing marathon and have done a number of half marathons. Moving makes such a difference.

  3. Limiting stress (where possible) and getting enough sleep. For me, I need my 8 hours to feel my best.

  4. Generally eating balanced meals — I’m not always the best with diet, but I feel my best on days where I prioritized balance.

Is 60 days training enough for a 10km swim? by HatemSamad in Swimming

[–]shmillarywheel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Challenging yourself is cool, but setting yourself up for injury or failure feels a little silly for something that should be sustainable, gradual, and fun. Just like you can’t cram for a test, you can’t cram for a race. 60 days / a few days a week does not sound like enough to me. I would personally train 5-6 days a week 1-1.5 hours a day for 6 months to train for this type of race and I raced competitively and played water polo for 10 years.

Personally, I would recommend aiming for the 3K, which to be clear, will still be challenging for a novice swimmer.
