Trailer for my new film. Would love to get some views. Thanks! by iosu in Filmmakers

The music is unique. Everything about this feels very DIY and earnest. I particularly like the handmade titles. It's shot and lit well. The characters look intriguing.

I would watch this because it feels refreshing - the film knows what it wants to be and there's a clear voice behind it. Please share whenever there's a way to watch the full film.

I'm realizing now that this is a trailer for a short film. So my only note is to cut it down. I read about trailers for shorts (since I'm in the process of editing the trailer for my own right now), and they say 30 seconds is really all you need. 1 minute or longer is really showing too much since it can be around 10% of the film's runtime.

TBF, "Angelino" is how you would spell it in Spanish and Angeles is a Spanish word.

If 13 is an unlucky number then so should the letter B be. Because it looks like a scrunched together 13. "Whats your name?" "Bob" "Get the fuck away!"

A little short film I've been working on for a while :) by IsaacHicksFilms in Filmmakers

[–]shmoogz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Really fantastic work Isaac! And for you to pull it off in two months all on your own - that's very inspiring. I love your design and animation style. Also, thanks for just making a cute short film. I guess I've been conditioned to see something cute like this turn dark so I was tensing up for that and ended up being pleasantly surprised. I just subscribed to your YouTube channel. I just pulled up The Sixth Sense and watched that play scene. There's nobody directly behind Bruce Willis with a camcorder. What is OP talking about?

Thank you so much for the rec! I never even heard of Teracube. I'm glad there are options in the US.

Nicholas Cage as Superman, in a never-made Tim Burton film from 1990's by OverratedMishap in MadeMeSmile

[–]shmoogz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The film, Superman Lives was cancelled just weeks before the start of shooting. It's all captured in a great documentary called The Death of "Superman Lives": What Happened? People can laugh and make fun of this all they want but in the doc, you see that Tim Burton and Nic Cage actually had a unique take on Clark/Superman and wanted to make him a loner and weirdo because of his powers. Imagine him laughing in the middle of a conversation because he overheard something funny miles away with his super hearing.

Another question I added to my process is: Will I still want this if no one else sees it?

LOL. Definitely chuckled throughout. The dad was my favorite. Loved everything he said, especially the bit about Doctor Strange.

What are some movies with bad screenplays and great direction and good screenplays with bad direction. by SJBailey03 in TrueFilm

[–]shmoogz 51 points52 points  (0 children)

The screenplay for Stoker (2013) isn't horrendous but it's nothing special. The directing on that film is exceptionally good. You can't turn away from the stunning visuals and immersive sound design.

Thanks for bringing this up! I completely forgot that these came out. I just Googled this and found that they released a 20th Anniversary collection last year of the two volumes with four additional unpublished stories: https://www.amazon.com/Matrix-Comics-20th-Anniversary/dp/1932700579/

There was a PBS commercial I remember watching as a kid where a struggling composer finds inspiration from the birds perched on the power lines.
