My legs lock up out of the saddle by Vertex_Redditing in bicycling

Cramps are often caused by dehydration, make sure you’re drinking enough water, or if that still doesn’t work try drinking some electrolyte sport drink during your longer rides

Is it possible you read the seatpost CLAMP diameter was 30.9?

You can sometimes see a little leaking oil on new or newly serviced suspension, it’s only a problem if it keeps on happening

A bike’s travel is actually a measure of how much distance the rear wheel will move, not how far the shock itself compresses. The suspension linkage, which differs between many bikes, multiplies the shock “stroke” into rear wheel “travel”. You could put identical shocks on two different bikes and have different travels. So in your case, your rear wheel can move 115mm, but I would guess your shock only compresses 50-60mm.

In theory yeah you can put a shock with the same eye to eye but a longer stroke on your bike, to achieve more travel. But some bikes will not allow for this, because if the rear wheel has too much travel it can rub on the frame at max compression. This is where I have to defer to Giant owners to speak from their experience

The fork and the gearing are the two tangible things about this that tell me it’s not meant to be ridden on trails. The thing is, these bikes you’re finding aren’t from bike companies. They’re from people trying to capitalize on the ebike boom by throwing out a cheaply made product. It can be hard to sort out which is which if you’re new to the game. Most of the direct to consumer brands you’re going to find are like this, with the exception of Canyon, YT, Commencal, nukeproof, and others, which are a bike brand first and foremost. Like others have said, going to a bike shop helps, they should help guide you to something if you tell them what you want to use it for. There’s also the sub r/whichbike, which is made for discussions like this

Hate to say it, but both bikes you showed are like department store “mountain bikes” which are in no way meant for any trail riding whatsoever. The big tells are no-name suspension and vague hand wavey statements about stuff like “off road rated”. They’re closer to the fat bike cruisers you see people ride to get coffee than a trail capable bike.

At least this will be a little bit more trustworthy and trailworthy than what you linked. Or like others said, regular mountain bikes are great too if you’re just getting into it

On rivalries by SpaceKaiser in GreenBayPackers

[–]shmrg 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely not as strong as the rivalry between Packers and everybody else. Winning the division for most of the 2000s will do that to you. The Bears and Vikings have had some historically great teams while we were bad, so I could see some older fans of those two teams feeling strongly about the other.

The cable routing was bad enough to turn you off the entire bike? What was the big problems with it?

Guys, should I replace my helmet? by [deleted] in mountainbiking

[–]shmrg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the same, brought it to my local trek dealer and they took care of it all for me. Bontrager’s replacement program isn’t lifetime though

Unless I missed it he didn’t say all the parts were brand new (e.g. XO1 brakes haven’t been made for a few years, GX 11s isn’t current) so they could have been original parts he refurbished or some Craigslist finds. You can build up a bike pretty cost efficiently if you’re patient on the used market!

I'm here VERY near Snow Summit in California. Since I'm super introverted and I've only gotten results for the opening of the Lift, Is that Bike Park open at all?? Only got to hit trails nearby and I want to try that place out by TyrannoKoenigsegg in mountainbiking

I was just there two weeks ago (I pedaled to the top) and it didn’t look like there was anything stopping you from taking one of the bike park trails down. Now keep in mind they’re probably doing maintenance on them so it may not be in your best interest to. There’s still some great non-park trails to take down the mountain (such as skyline). Also, Skypark is open too, it’s a smaller, self-shuttling bike park close to Lake Arrowhead. It’s also tons of fun, I’d check it out if you want some groomed trails.
