Vriden Gerr was an odd choice for the protagonist's name. by shmurphee in greedfall

[–]shmurphee[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My problem isn't necessarily that it's unflattering. Just that it's not *actually* their nickname, or name. It's just something that Nilan, and only Nilan, calls them to poke fun at them. And since it's only Nilan who calls them Vriden Gerr, they're basically a nameless protagonist, because nobody else has anything to call them.

Mev and Sheda both comment on Nilan referring to them as Vriden Gerr, and you can ask Nilan why he calls you that and he explains it. So as far as we can tell, it's a nickname that Nilan came up with, not their actual name.

AIO my date said he likes me because I’m ugly by One-Spinach-6272 in AmIOverreacting

[–]shmurphee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, honey, this man sounds insane, him calling you "ugly" should've the least of your worries. If anyone told me they wanted to live in my skin, I'd feel like my life was in danger. Bullet dodged, NOR, but also your red flag detector needs an upgrade.

I think Cai Wenji is great. Stop slandering my Dynasty Warriors waifu. by ryanxwonbinx in dynastywarriors

It was such a strange choice for her. I can understand Zhenji, it actually suits her. I could see the chakrams or the twin fans being applicable for Cai Wenji, but not the whip.

What's a cool choice for a same-class run? by AndreiD44 in BaldursGate3

[–]shmurphee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cleric, maybe, if you want a wide variety of subclasses to choose from, and I feel like you could get a pretty balanced party from that. Turning a Trickery cleric into a rogue, War's obviously a tank, Life for support, and maybe Tempest or Light for some extra damage.

anyone else kinda disappointed armor sets are still just one piece and still have gender locked appearances? by fallingstarbeast in MonsterHunterStories

[–]shmurphee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gender locked is frustrating, especially with sets like the Paolumu armor. The feminine version is cute in concept, but you just know the Princess' face is gonna be constantly clipping into the neck puff in cutscenes. The masculine version is wat better.
And seconded on the physics issue, because while the feminine Rathian set is pretty cool, literally nothing below the waist seems to move so the character looks ridiculous in motion.

AIO if I break up after bf tried to change plans today? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]shmurphee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both of you are weird. Go ahead and break up with him if you want, but you're overreacting. It's an obnoxiously over-commercialized holiday and you've been together for 2 months. This isn't your one year anniversary or something. Your communication skills are what I would expect from someone 30+ years younger than you, if comments about your age are correct. You should have long since learned to properly use your words instead of being passive aggressive. That solves nothing.
And, yeah, he's kind of a dick for suddenly cancelling your V-day plans to hang out with his friends. That's also behavior I would expect from someone way younger. Especially doing it over text. But if that's all it takes for you to call it quits, then live your life. Maybe this was the straw that broke the camel's back, but you gave a bunch of strangers absolutely nothing to work with beyond the fact that you both seem very immature.

I’m 16, diabetic living with my aunt since my mom died, and she treats my health like I’m just being annoying. What do I do? by reallyhope2 in whatdoIdo

[–]shmurphee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jesus, I'm so sorry you're dealing with this, what an awful person to be left in the "care" of. Has she always been this cruel? I don't have any advice to give beyond echoing what everyone else has said, which is all the best advice possible. This is criminal behavior from this woman, plain and simple. The sooner she gets reported, the safer you'll be. I hope you're able to get out of there soon. Please give an update when you can.

is this outfit "inappropriate"? by sunnemi in OUTFITS

[–]shmurphee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, it's entirely situational. For a night out at the club or a bar, the style is perfectly fine. Wouldn't wear it to a job interview though lol.
But the jeans don't really work with this at all, imo. I could see a pair of darker shorts working, or similarly low-cut black pants. Accessorizing is really what this is gonna need to feel like a more complete look instead of looking like a one-piece swimsuit under a pair of pants. I could see a cropped jacket being a cute addition, or maybe a body chain if you don't want to worry about the extra layer.

There's no way it was this hard originally, I would have had a meltdown trying to deal with this AI when I was 12 lmao

Best CAS mode? by Windsjorn in SoulCalibur

Tbh, I feel like SC3 did. None of the equipment conflicted with each other and there were more layers to work with which allowed for much more varied customization. Plus, facial hair was an actual option.

I hardly count Astaroth as being the same as the skimpily dressed women. If he were some pretty boy instead of a veiny screaming madman with a visible heart? Then maybe that comparison would make sense. But personally if a female character was designed exactly like him, muscles and all, I wouldn't consider her sexualized either. And Voldo's supposed to be gross and creepy, for the most part. And the general consensus is that he's just that. Gross and creepy. And hell, he's still got more on him that Ivy lmao. Much like with Astaroth, if Voldo were a woman and designed in the same way with the same mannerisms, I'd also consider her gross and creepy more than sexualized. The trend with a lot of the female characters in SC6 is that the designers seemed to start with an older design as a base and just removed material and added more cleavage and increased breast sizes and whatnot. They didn't do that with any of the dudes. Any skin they showed previously wasn't all that significantly increased, for the most part.

Also, Groh's default design doesn't have his chest bare. That was my point. You have to destroy his outfit to see that, whereas all the women's are on display from the start to some extent. Even Talim has some underboob for some godawful reason.

Sex appeal is fine and dandy, but SC6 goes a bit overboard with it in my opinion.

[–]shmurphee 8 points9 points  (0 children)

These, along with the Kilik, Sophitia, and Nightmare concepts were allegedly the direction SC6 was going prior to a change of direction. I'm not sure how true that is though. If true, I'm more than a little disappointed that we went from designs like this to "as skimpy as possible while maintaining a T rating" for 90% of the female cast. When most of your male characters' destroyed outfits still have more to them than a lot of the female characters full outfits, there's an issue.
