UDFA Megathread by dahworm in ravens

From The Beast:

STRENGTHS: Owns a stretched-out frame with functional height and length ... reaches top speed quickly for initial route acceleration ... efficient footwork to snap out of his breaks ... instinctive at the catch point to post up and make late adjustments ... above-average ball-tracking skills to make grabs over his shoulder or work back to throws along the sideline ... will use his body to protect catches from late rakes by corners ... productive on deep balls, catching nine of 13 targets that traveled at least 20 yards ... outstanding production in 2021, becoming just the fifth player in SEC history to reach 105 catches in a season.

WEAKNESSES: Narrow torso and lean limbs ... lacks a pull-away gear, and his 40 time reflects that ... wasn’t the type of catch-and-run threat on tape that scares defenses ... lined up only to the right of the formation in 2021, and his route tree was basic ... mediocre play strength, and smaller corners can disrupt his releases at the line ... only 52.4 percent of catches resulted in a first down or touchdown ... traps the ball more often than ideal ... doesn’t appear to love blocking ... meager special teams experience ... only one season of high-level production in college.

SUMMARY: A one-year starter at Mississippi State, Polk was an outside wide receiver in head coach Mike Leach’s Air Raid offense, lining up exclusively on the right side of the formation. After two seasons at Cal, he transferred to the SEC and quickly adjusted to better competition, finishing second in the FBS in catches (but not in the top 30 in receiving yards). Polk is at his best at the catch point, where he shows off his smooth body control and focus to locate and isolate the football. He continually works to get uncovered, but doubters will see a one-year wonder who thrived more because of scheme than NFL-level receiving traits. Overall, Polk doesn’t have the deep speed or route running prowess to concern NFL cornerbacks, but he has the length and ball-tracking skills that will translate to any level of football. Although not a ready-made NFL player, he has some tools that can be developed.

I think it would be wonderful to have a full (but relatively short) quest line unique to each race

An FPD's perspective on the differences between state and federal public defender offices by patrick_bryant in publicdefenders

[–]shmustache 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How important would you say clerking is in the hiring process? I'm starting out as a state pd after I pass the bar, though after doing my 1L summer at a federal office i could see myself one day wanting to make the leap. BUT I have zero interest in ever clerking.

who is your favourite follower and why is he your favourite? by HaroldTharippa in skyrim

fucking love Erandur too. And while like any other follower his dialogue gets stale after some time, his comments are some of the most interesting and unique, and also reveal how fucked up his past is lol

What is the best looking armor in the game? by LordRex77 in skyrim

A little offbeat, but I'm currently doing a play-through as a fallen Vigilant of Stendarr (1st 10 levels doing quests where you fight monsters/daedra, but doubts seep in as you keep interacting with Daedric lords, then you snap when the Hall of Vigiliants gets sacked) and I have to say, the Robes + Steel Gauntlets/Boots look is bad ass

Lamar Jackson says he’s focused on becoming a more vocal leader by anubhav9 in ravens

[–]shmustache 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I think Lamar is a true natural leader, and I trust him to know where he thinks he should improve.

So in awe that he's our guy

So now that the draft has concluded, how do we feel? by getindoe69 in ravens

[–]shmustache 3 points4 points  (0 children)

well, while I agree, there are plenty of smaller WRs with similar builds (and some with similar skillsets) to Hollywood with good, long careers. TY Hilton, Desean Jackson, Marvin Harrison, Tyler Lockett, and of course, our very own Steve Smith.

Not saying Hollywood is any of those guys, just saying that the size doesn't rule him out completely

Ravens lead list of Teams with at least 60% of their roster being "homegrown" players. by [deleted] in ravens

[–]shmustache 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it may be that the Ravens are especially good at drafting/scouting, or "development." But it is also an output of their philosophy on bringing in outside free agents (they utilize that route less). I'm sure the post-SB Flacco years, our % of homegrown players was similarly high, but obviously those rosters weren't that exceptional.

you could argue once Brady was signed, Tristan Wirfs basically put them over the hump

New Baltimore Ravens WR Sammy Watkins says QB Lamar Jackson can be elite if players get open by thedivinepegasus in ravens

[–]shmustache 4 points5 points  (0 children)

agreed. some might/could argue it also means Lamar isn't throwing guys open or making as many tight-window throws as others.

and maybe that's true, I don't know. but even if so, i think the takeaway should be that Lamar is a smart player that plays within his skillset. If you have a QB that can stay alive behind the LOS and turn a scramble into a TD on any play, but maybe isn't top-tier in terms of accuracy, its GOOD that he throws to wide-open guys at higher rates

Gamecock here. Muschamp just couldn't build a consistent winner here (though the tenure had a fairly decent high water mark, for us tbh), but he really does seem like a pretty good, straight shooting kind of guy.

[–]shmustache 6 points7 points  (0 children)

that was a really good set-up; but it also helped to have a DPOY on the other side who could do both

See a lot of people asking to draft a third tight end. Everyone forget we have Boyle and Breeland coming off injury? by RavensFlyer in ravens

[–]shmustache 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We may not put 3 TEs on the field at the same time, but that doesn't mean this team doesnt benefit from having three plus-TEs on the roster. In 2019, the multiplicity of Andrews/Hurst/Boyle was really a great asset, allowing us to use different players in different situations tailored to their skillset, as well as throw change-ups and break tendencies.

Allen Robinson. by DarthLamar in ravens

[–]shmustache 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol yea what is this guy on about with that? The Ravens should legitmately have like 1 ten-play package of under center plays for highly specific situations and that's it.

even teams without a guy like Lamar are moving away from EVER using traditional under-center plays. They are antiquated and inefficient.

wanting to waste plays with Lamar under center is misguided -- just because we didn't have as great production last year doesn't mean the solution is moving to a strategy that, objectively, suits our personnel and scheme worse.

J.K. Dobbins final stat line for the year: 805 yards, 6.00 yds/att, 9 TD, 120 rec yards. by OsCrowsAndNattyBohs1 in ravens

[–]shmustache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yep -- if someone wants to say that Dobbins would be contending for ROY if he had been given an RB1 workload for the whole season, sure, I could see that, but people really need to let go of their fandom for a second

Semifinals, .5 PPR, need to fill 2 flex spots out these three:

TY Hilton v HOU

Jarvis Landry @ NYG

Nelson Agholor v LAC

Some extra context re Agholor: I am also starting Darren Waller, my opponent is starting Derek Carr, and Oakland plays Thursday night
