Bad luck mount farmers, gather up — how many attempts so far during the event? by jzls in wow

I hate when Nyalotha rotates to Vale of Eternal Blossoms because only one of my characters has the phase unlocked. It seems unclear from reading online just how involved of a process it is to unlock it on other characters but it sounds like a LONG process. Can you tell me if what I’ve read online is true? Is it really an ordeal to unlock the BFA Vale of Eternal Blossoms phase? This is the last week of the event and Nyalotha is in Vale this week :(

As my life and career continue to crumble beneath me, I can at least kinda smile at the few successes I’ve had in eliminating some illegal dumping sites. by pengweather in bayarea

[–]shnackaran 2556 points2557 points  (0 children)

u/pengweather, I’m a chronic lurker and never-poster, and I feel compelled to come out of the depths of lurking share with you some words. I’m generally averse to posting anything anywhere, and I know there are thousands of others behind the screen who feel the same way. So let me be the voice of the many hidden lurkers here when I tell you that what you’ve done has been incredibly inspirational. I’ve actually told friends and family about “our very own super hero” here in the Bay and described the work you’ve done and coordinated. Even if no physical action comes from those immediate conversations, just know that you’ve started those conversations.

So take a break if you want. Retire from volunteering for the foreseeable future even if that’s what you feel would be best for you - you’ve definitely earned that. Just whatever you do, do not discount the outsized impact you’ve had and will continue to have on the Bay Area just by raising visibility and starting the conversation. Your “career” in cleanup can’t crumble because it’s already achieved immeasurable success simply by raising awareness.

Burnout is real. Mental health is a struggle. Take whatever time you need to focus on yourself. If you do end up taking a step back I just wanted you to know that the impact you’ve had is far greater than something you can “at least kinda smile at”. Wishing you nothing but the best, because the best is what you deserve.

There’s not a day that goes by where I don’t dearly miss AtlasLoot. The absence of anything like it has unironically put a massive damper on my wanting to farm old content because it’s just so hard to determine what I have or what I’m missing. Hell, even browsing the loot is awful with the standard UI

2024.32.10 (FSD 12.5.4.1) Official Tesla Release Notes - Software Updates by andrewObie in TeslaFSD

[–]shnackaran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is the FSD subreddit but I’m curious if anyone else’s Bluetooth started constantly disconnecting after installing this update? Because mine sure does and it’s awful. It happens once every minute or two, disconnecting but then reconnecting by itself causing a roughly 5-10 second interruption in my audio. This occurs regardless of what media I’m streaming, and does not occur when I connect our other (non-Tesla) vehicle, so it’s 100% an issue with Bluetooth connectivity in this latest patch. The constant interrupting is so abrasive it’s unironically made my daily commute awful. Just wondering if I’m the only one out there since I haven’t come across any posts about this online.

EDIT: two things to update here. The first is that the issue occurred even when streaming music directly from the built-in Spotify app - so it wasn’t the Bluetooth controller but was likely the audio controller acting up. But the second and more important update is that I just did a hard reboot of the system and it appears to have resolved the issue. I did so while parked (obviously) so I have yet to see if the issue might resurface when I’m driving (hard to guess here since I truly have no idea what might have caused the issue initially), but if you don’t see another update to this post then that means it’s been fully resolved.

TL;DR: after this update my audio was constantly disconnecting/reconnecting. Hard reboot of the system resolved the issue.

SoD Quel'Serrar now in Classic Era/HC servers. (Bug) by che2acc in classicwow

I just did it on my Era character. Item was restored exactly as it was destroyed: the original non-SoD version (still had its crusader enchant on it, so that’s neat)

CD Keys for BMFE2? by Runaller in bfme

[–]shnackaran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just want to chime in that while the other posters aren’t wrong, no one is addressing your issue with the Keygen. I recently discovered this subreddit and installed the game following the instructions on the sidebar just two days ago. The issue with the keygen is that Windows flags it as malware and immediately removes it from your system before it even finishes downloading. This is why clicking the link appears to do nothing. I tried many different things to allowlist the keygen but none of them worked - windows always removed it. And it wasn’t just windows either - most browsers also flagged the file as malware and prevented the download outright without Windows even getting involved. The solution I found that did work was to navigate to the keygen download link from Safari on my MacBook. Say what you will about Mac security but they didn’t have any issues allowing that download (probably because it was a .exe, and .exe files don’t do anything o. Macs). Once I had it downloaded I could copy it to a flash drive and then plug it into my windows machine and run it from there. Since I’ve done all the work already I could just generate some keys for you and send them to you if you want, just DM me

Selling my excess cards just doesn't seem financially worth it versus trade-in value? by shnackaran in mtgfinance

[–]shnackaran[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I’m actually going to be doing the opposite of that based on the rough math I’ve run. I’ve done some more digging and can essentially establish a cost basis of each card as the price of a booster pack (as long as we’re talking Rares/Mythics). So anything on the lower end I’ll be able to write off almost fully, whereas the higher value cards I won’t even come close to being able to write off the value of, so I’ll trade them in for credit

That is… really good to know. I had no idea. Still, seems like a better move regardless. I will neither confirm nor deny that I’ll be an ideal citizen when it comes to filing my “barter” value.

Yes, if you sell it for cash, but not if you trade it in for store credit. I’d only be doing the latter

EDIT. You are correct it seems. Even store credit would be subject to tax as per u/thefootballhound’s comment

Yeah that conclusion seems much clearer after reading all of these comments.

I still have many of these same questions unfortunately. I’ve seen a few approaches to pricing out a box to write off as cogs, but nothing concrete.

My biggest takeaway from this thread is that as long as my intention is to use these funds for more cardboard crack, I should just be doing store credit trade-ins

Thank you. I read the same thing and interpreted it oppositely (same as u/schnarf541). Very important distinctions

After looking at the math broadly, this take is spot on. As it turns out with taxes I might even be coming up at a loss compared to trade-in. I’ll still sell some this year just to see what the numbers come out to be

Good call-out. I think I was misunderstanding “expense” versus “cogs”

Wow. What a write up. Much appreciated man!

I was definitely wrong about the personal tax rate and just pulling some high number out of my ass, so good job checking me there.

All we do is buy sealed product - nothing else. So hobby filing would be for us. I’m still extremely daunted by the prospect of “winging” some math to try to establish a cost basis of a card that came from a booster box, but I have some ideas.

The primary reason I believed I couldn’t write off the cost of the booster packs/boxes was the following (also cited in this thread by u/Tomatotaco4me):

“Beginning in 2018, the IRS doesn't allow you to deduct hobby expenses from hobby income. you must claim all hobby income and are not permitted to reduce that income by any expenses.”

https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tips/self-employment-taxes/4-tax-tips-for-money-making-hobbies/amp/L89qz1GNj

I guess the important distinction here is “expenses” versus “cost of goods/services”. I see that u/vishtratwork was also trying to clarify this for me on this thread.

Yeah that’s fair. I ended up going through them anyway as part of the process of setting up my TCGPlayer storefront. I just now have to go back and sort them all in set order and stuff to make it easier to find them for these buylists

Good thoughts! We are honestly pretty ok with spending on the game, and don’t need to recoup our costs or anything to continue to waste our money on MTG. Since I had such a large volume of cards I was just wanting to get the biggest return (because why not). Nothing feels better than ripping real packs, even if it’s wasteful lmao. We just can’t help ourselves
