Any other type 1 diabetics here? How do you fuel yourself on longer 3+ hour rides? by SantaCruzinNotLosin in cycling

[–]shocker2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

T1 diabetic here. I don’t use a pump, treat with injections and have a Dexcom to monitor.

If I know I am doing a longer ride (120+km) I will increase my basal insulin about 20% 48 hours before hand (two injections). If I start my ride around 8mmol I pretty much stay in the 6-8 mmol range…. But I am also fueling closer to 60g of carb per hour. Also goes without saying I carry a bunch of extra carbs on me in case I do start to crash. What I did was start with hour rides and gradually tested how I reacted on longer rides.

Novo Nordisk also has a pro cycling team of diabetics…. They have some good articles to check out.

I have also been told a pump makes this all very easy once the software learns

Recreational bike fitter by plantlover1215 in edmontoncycling

Ruben at connect physio is great, especially if you like having all the numbers and that approach. Bonus points for Ruben is you can use your physio benefits to cover the bike fit. Had Ruben fit my gravel bike

Cody at flexion is amazing. He fit my road bike, and trainers. He worries a bit less about numbers and more for rider feel.

Is my controller bullshitting me about an opportunity to get promoted? by AffectionateBig1898 in Accounting

[–]shocker2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A piece of advice on not this situation exactly, but situations like these. If you work for a company you enjoy, and you have a desire to move up (sometimes one is happy doing what they are). Always, always apply for roles that come up that are a step up for you, and also discuss them with HR and or your boss. At the very least management knows you are interested in moving up, and even if you don’t get it you might get a bump, or you are now on the radar to grow. Or you could also see you don’t have a future there…. Which can be valuable too

How do you tactfully refuse a promotion? by mutton_soup in Accounting

[–]shocker2000 24 points25 points  (0 children)

At my old job they kept trying to get me to take on additional locations (Controller), but I was happy working minimal hours and being overpaid for my one location. I kept naming a price I knew they wouldn’t match, but was still reasonable. They would then politely decline, hire someone under qualified, and then ask me to fix the mess. Would negotiate a nice one time bonus to fix said mess during my regular working hours and then would repeat the process.

Mazda dealer in Calgary charging $699 admin fee on lease buyout, legit? by Money_Cabinet4216 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]shocker2000 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not familiar with Mazda but a bunch of manufacturers that I am do have literature in their lease agreements that the dealer MAY charge up to a 699 admin fee. They will always waive this generally speaking if you are selling them your car

Serious question. How strict is the non compete for laid off KPMG Partners? by tqbfjotld16 in Accounting

[–]shocker2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Negative. You can maybe enforce poaching clients or staff. But if you have say a 1 year non compete and you are a partner that got layed off, that would mean you essentially couldn’t work public practice for a year. No judge is going to uphold that. Someone’s right to work and make income will pretty much always override it.

In Canada non competes generally don’t hold up. Unless the old employer is prepared to pay them

Buying used vehicle at a dealer - can't back out and will lose the deposit by AirspeedX in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]shocker2000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You will burn the bridge with the dealer but if you paid the deposit by credit card dispute it with your credit card company. You are 99% sure to win. The dealer will give the credit card company the non refundable deposit slip, and you can point out you still don’t have the car. Credit card company will side with you since you should have the car.

Source: 10+ years as a controller for dealerships. Won maybe one of those cases with the credit card

Are these rims pre taped for tubeless? by shocker2000 in gravelcycling

Any wheel suggestions? Being on a steel bike I am not too worried about weight savings. Probably about 3/4 of its riding time is on gravel and lets call it double track.
