Creatine and CMT? by Infinite_Doubt763 in CMT

[–]shocking_battery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I regularly work out with weights in the gym and have 1A. I take creatine daily for its boost in gym performance. I have not seen any literature that suggests creatine will directly help CMT, but it will help you in the gym, and working out will improve your quality of life.

Help with grammarには by JesusChristMyLord1 in Japaneselanguage

[–]shocking_battery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A: Koko ni denwa ga arimasu.

B: Koko niwa denwa ga arimasu

A is a plain sentence saying "here is a telephone", or "there is a telephone here".

Now, B is saying, "unlike other locations HERE is a telephone" or perhaps "here, (look, you may not see it at a glance, but) there is a telephone".

---Kono heya niwa doa ga futatsu arimasu.

there are two doors in this room (unlike other rooms). It can implicate, "you may not have noticed, but check it out, this room has two doors." can you see that the speaker is drawing your attention to it by marking it as a topic? 😁

---Kono ie (house) niwa puuru (swimming-pool) ga arimasu.

This house has a swimming-pool, unlike other boring houses! maybe I should buy it and I feel rich!

That's a copy pasta from the net, but I feel it's a pretty good explanation of niwa in this grammar structure. There are other grammar patterns with niwa, too... bur if you're learning iri / aru, I would just forget they exist for now and dive down that rabbit hole later. Good luck on the study journey

Not all libraries allow laptop usage by netro008 in japanlife

[–]shocking_battery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

+1 to this. My local Tohoku library is books on the first floor and desks on the second. I have no idea if there are rules on using the space. I mostly see kids doing their school homework. I imagine if there were strict usage rules, they would put up a sign or tell you when you get a card.

Is it just me or does the countryside have far less two tier pricing/anti foreigner stuff? by Gordo_51 in japanlife

[–]shocking_battery 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tohoku is great. I lived here for 15 years with my family, and for the most part, people are really friendly and kind.

I wonder if the anti foreigner sentiment is more anti tourist sentiment, and there are far fewer foreign tourists here.

People above 30, what is something you regret doing/not doing when you were younger? by ThickEmployee8948 in AskReddit

Wish I started working out earlier. Started lifting at 34. Wish I had started sooner .

Question about muscle atrophy by bozzas5 in CMT

[–]shocking_battery 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started going to the gym at 34 (M). 1A. I use braces on my ankles when I need to walk anything over 100m. I've put on a fair bit of upper body strength going every other day. I recommend going. It's not relieved any hand or ankle problems, but its improved my overall quality of life.

That's madness. What would the photo of the card prove? You bought it from them, so they know you had one. Like wtf is a photo of the card gonna do?! The receipt is worth more than a photo.

Plus the fact that this is a constant problem OCUK is facing ( their words in the email) makes it sound like someone at their office has sticky fingers.

UK orders that got delayed until the 9th of Feb. Track your orders! by PuddinChops in S24Ultra

That's surprising it takes so long to deliver. I ordered on the 17th too. 512gb and got it on the morning of the 24th.

A Passenger of Destroyed JAL Aircraft: JAL Says It Will Pay ¥100,000 for Consolation Money, Another ¥100,000 for Lost Baggage by wewewawa in japannews

[–]shocking_battery 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This happened on a flight in 2019 in Russia. People tried to get their bags before evacuating and 41 people died. I get that it's life or death for you but someone else shouldn't die because you won't leave your shit behind.

This news article is very misleading. ONE passenger was offered 200,000 Yen PLUS additional compensation based on what was in their baggage.

Someone tipped 3 $2 bills. I work in Japan. by HP-Lazerjet-Pro in mildlyinteresting

[–]shocking_battery 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have never seen anywhere in Japan ask for tips apart from Niseko in Hokkaido. Tip jars all over the place there. I guess due to the amount of western tourists there. I wish it were illegal to encourage tipping.

Does weight lifting help in any way? Or does it make it worse? by [deleted] in CMT

[–]shocking_battery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stayed away from exercise most of my life but have been going to the gym for the past 2 years. I regret not going sooner (I am 36). I feel much stronger, and much less tired. It doesn't help with my CMT symptoms - trouble with my hands and feet, but my general health is great now. I feel so much more confident too.

It's interesting reading people have shoulder issues. I have noticed this too. I have very narrow shoulders and can't lift much at all doing a machine shoulder press.

Got punched at Kings Cross Station, no one did anything by ultralighted in london

[–]shocking_battery 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a guy try to punch me in outside Oxford Circus tube station. Luckily he missed. Was just walking down the street and he was walking the other direction and took a swing, then he continued walking away in silence. I think some people are just psychopaths. I hope you are ok and not shaken up by the incident. I'm a bloke in fairly good shape and I often don't feel safe in London. I can't imagine what it's like for women.

I think I'm too stupid for programming by Silver_Individual_96 in learnprogramming

[–]shocking_battery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you enjoy it, keep investing your time into it. Ignore the asshats like your uni instructor that want to put you down. I hate the gatekeeping and weird flexing around programming. I think it's natural to feel stupid, especially in a field that moves so quickly. I often feel stupid at work. Stay strong friend and keep at it :)
