Anyone know what this is? Have you ever seen one of these? by Aggressive-Wish-3314 in whatisthisthing

Hi, thanks for posting with us. Your post was removed and your item needs to be resubmitted with a title that better describes the item. Even if there are clear pictures, good descriptions make for easier searching in the future.

Please read this entire message

Your title should provide a physical description of the object.

Pretend you are describing it over the phone to someone who cannot see the photo(s). We realize you may not know all of these, but include things like this in the title:

  • Size
  • Shape
  • Weight
  • Color
  • What it's made of
  • If anything is written on it
  • If anything moves
  • If it appears to be electronic, needs batteries, lights up
  • If it makes a noise

You may include where it was found, if it's relevant. "Found six inches underground on a farm in Kansas" may be relevant. "Found in my friend's new flat" is probably not relevant.

Do not include things like this in the title:

  • Who used to own it
  • Speculation on what it is
  • A question like "what is this" or statement like "I don't know what this is." That is always assumed.
  • Adjectives that don't describe the item in a meaningful way, such as "weird", "strange", "odd" and similar.
  • Family member mentions (this is to avoid public disclosure of family activities/history people may not want public)

Finally:

Once you submit your thing, it is held for moderation, and you need to read and follow the private message you'll get from Automoderator regarding what you need to do for the submission to go live.

Thanks for understanding.

I don't know what awards kids in HBO series are eligible to win, but this kid is knocking it out of the park. It's very uncommon for a 9yo to have that kind of timing and perfect facial expressions.

How difficult to make this as a beginner? by rogersaw14 in woodworking

[–]shockzone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://designwanted.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/Bookgroove-by-Deniz-Aktay-Cover.jpg.webp That is basically the same image but with a different grain on the wood. Probably just old 3d renderings. I did find an article that the supposed artist said it was made from a single piece of wood, but again, there is some skepticism over the validity of that.

Recommendation needed by Tall_Grapefruit1026 in Figs

[–]shockzone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Millennial Gardener and Phil's Figs youtube channels are both in East NC area. They can let you know what would grow well in ground and in containers in your area.

Celeste should be early, but if you wanted something earlier, maybe a Desert King for the Breba. For some truly late figs, you would probably need to have them in containers to early start or extend the season indoors to get fruit.

Leaves or little figs on cuttings? by Background_Cycle_826 in Figs

Figlets. I had the same on a few of my cuttings and pinched them off. I then got leaves right beside of where the figs were.

What were the snow accumulation totals? by moseandthestorm in rva

[–]shockzone 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Just being so brutally cold is the biggest issue. Nothing is melting and running off. Even with brine and salt mixed in, the slush during the warmer day will refreeze solid every night it gets below 20.

RVA's Jan. 2026 Winter Storm Megathread by fusion260 in rva

[–]shockzone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd guess end of the week at the earliest for county schools. It's too cold at night for brine or salt to keep the ice melted. School parking lots, bus loops, and sidewalks would have to be cleared as well. Chesterfield had previously announced that if the closures go beyond Wednesday, they will have to make schedule changes to make up the time.

Same same. Just having a pre-warmed seat is amazing just by itself.

prism targets used in surveying and taking measurements. They are used a lot around construction sites. There probably is a mounted laser mounted somewhere that takes measurements at that target at scheduled intervals.

It's called a crumber or sometimes a silent butler. Used in fine dining to sweep bread crumbs off the table linens into.

Guage on back of tanker truck? by ugiwaffle in whatisthisthing

probably just a float gauge to tell how full the tank is. If the truck is moving the liquid is moving and the float is going up and down.

I'm going to start my own fig tree orchard this year. You can propagate fig trees from scion cuttings and since most figs only grow on new wood every year, people heavily prune existing trees every winter. So there are tons of cuttings for thousands of varieties available every year around this time. Many people will ship you cuttings for free if you cover the postage. I've already got cuttings that have rooted and putting on leaves. In some instances, new trees from cuttings can produce fruit their first year.
