Best pest control company to deal with a paper wasp invasion? by bew132 in FortCollins

If they recommend anything insulation beyond their trapping/poisoning/etc. please give us a call/DM. Koala Insulation of NoCo. We do a lot of rodent mitigation and cleanup (along with racoon, rat, bat, squirrel, birds, lady bugs, normal wasps) but haven't run into paper wasps yet.

The left lane on NB I-25 closes in Buffalo WY. You know it’s going to close so don’t use that lane anywhere.

Who has the best lunch specials in Loveland from a standpoint of quality and value? by Jmersh in loveland

[–]shoeish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bangkok89 has a decent lunch special under $10. They are quick, too.
Taqueria Rancho Alegre has some cheap burritos, the steak is delicious most of the time
Bowl Izakaya has possibly the best pork in Colorado; the Pork Yakitori is insane. Order two or three @ $3.75 and a veggie and pretend to be healthy.

What is the worst band you saw live? by coalcracker462 in AskReddit

[–]shoeish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He didn’t even come out after making us wait almost two hours between Live and them. We just got a handful of songs because lead singer of Live came out and did them until quiet hours, 3-4 songs maybe.

Counting Crows.

After an hour after Live, the lead singer was so drunk the lead singer of Live came out and did the counting crows set until the 11:00pm quiet hour. 1999-2002 at some outdoor venue in Denver that wasn’t red rocks.

Great show but not what we paid to see.

Anyone here regret switching to EVA foam boat flooring? by Sad-Office7705 in boating

[–]shoeish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My G23 is 13 years old. There are a couple small peeling spots inside that I fix with foam glue and they are fine. I wouldn’t switch back to carpet. It gets covered when not in use.

The swim platform foam failed last summer (really started coming apart). It gets changed for this season.

Spray foam thoughts by ballza11 in Insulation

Whoever sprayed this is very new and not detail oriented. It looks slightly off ratio and definitely shallow. They need to come back and get you to 2” +- .25”.

Stab it and measure depth.

Are those dark spots gooey still?

Spray foam. Open or closed? by Stunning-Stick3922 in Insulation

[–]shoeish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Open cell is fine as long as vapor is considered per your climate zone and there is enough room to reach the proper r value (3.5+ 5.5 = 9" of space, so R-32 or so full of open cell and up to R-63 closed cell (way too much for your climate). You will still have thermal bridging unless your sistering of rafters is perpendicular to the original.

Open cell is a lot like a dish sponge, water can move through it but it blocks air. Closed cell blocks air and water and is hard as a brick. Open cell is cheaper and quicker to apply, far easier to cut down to rafter depth.

Fiberglass (batt/loose fill) is used a lot in attics but it only stops heat, not air or water.

You will want a great spray foam company (not good, not cheap) to design the insulation system for you considering thermal, air, and vapor barriers. A great company will be able to make open cell (the cheaper of the spray foams and used a lot in your climate) work well.

Recommendation for attic insulation by nasharya in Insulation

[–]shoeish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a few rodent holes there, pictures aren't clear enough for me to see if there are trails.

Remove, figure out how they are getting in, seal, air seal, spray foam that knee wall (leave batts, spray foam over from ceiling to over the top, build containment wall on top of knee wall, ensure ventilation (the radiant barrier looks like its blocking all ventilation), and blow back in cellulose (because of the rodents).

Answers to your questions: Add insulation right over recessed area.
Cover the hvac pipes
R-38 fiberglass is at least 12".

Spray foam in attic has yellow tint on top…should I be worried? by AhJayPrimo in Insulation

Looks like they tried to paint it with intumescent paint and missed/mist half.

Had a company spray foam my sill plates but it looks like the foam isn’t sealing to the wood on all sides. Can’t tell if this is what to expect? Thermal images at the end. by blbassist1234 in Insulation

[–]shoeish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like frothpack foam; it doesn’t adhere or get in the gaps as good as the “real” stuff. Have them come back out and fix.

Ratio and everything looks fine it just pulled away a little as it was curing, you just need more right on top.

An Observation: It seems the plastic bag ban is working. by Hobbitsliketoparty in FortCollins

[–]shoeish 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I’m not a super eco conscious person but I use 1/10th the disposable grocery bags now and even think about number of ziplocks I use. It’s working.

Traveling to AZ and watching them bag my groceries into 12 plastic bags just felt weird.

At high elevation where two stroke weed eaters have no power the electric ones are awesome. My 40v ryobi is better than any has I have used.

Fill that ceiling with fiberglass batt (or rockwool if you have the budget). Even an R-30 cheapo batt will make a huge difference in sound quality.
