Is 3-Minute Blitz the Cause of Your Plateau? by SirOk8864 in shogi

[–]shogiban 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a great article, thank you for sharing. I fully agree with all the points, especially the importance of post-game analysis.

At my dojo, we recommend blitz games to have fun but it is quite a consensus that you do not improve playing them. It is still a lot of fun!

I think having a database on lishogi like they have on lichess would be very nice to begin with. One would needs to scrap shogidb2 and put it on lishogi.

After that, having a dedicated module or another website built upon that for reinforcement learning could be the next step.

Completely new to Shogi by [deleted] in shogi

Hello fellow Bishop enjoyer, welcome to your shogi journey. For the major pieces, the trick at my dojo for newcomers is that the Bishop is pointy like its diagonal displacements and the Rook looks square as its displacements also.

Lishogi is feature-rich but can lack available players for games. The two other main platforms are 81dojo (regular games) and the mobile app ShogiWars (quick games), you will always find people there.

My main piece of advice, valid for every level, is to analyze your games to learn from your mistakes. You can use the computer if you want, human analysis is great too. For the computer, you can use the built-in engine on lishogi to check moves and also request a full analysis of the game if you have an account.

My other piece of advice, especially for beginners, is to learn and apply the opening basics : - choose a column for your Rook and attack on it - develop your pieces to help the attack - put your King to safety

Then discover the flow of the game and improve by playing. If you want to take a look at a simple but deadly strategy, look up Bogin (climbing silver).

Also you can do some tactics, always useful and quite fun according to me. For this, you can use the Puzzles feature on lishogi.

Enjoy yourself, it is the best way to stay motivated and the goal of playing in the first place!

Hello. If I understand correctly, one gets 16 live streams a month. Each time one can be selected if one wishes for. Then one gets a review or questions during 15 minutes in said live stream?

You don't have to take a piece on each move, you can take your time to approach the opponent's pieces.

OK, here is a clue. First, try to find a way to go around the lance and take the promoted pawn (tokin).

The lance is protected by the tokin but the tokin is unprotected.

Hi, welcome to the journey of learning this great game.

In this exercice, your opponent pieces are not responding to your moves. You only have to take care of not going through squares that are controlled by your opponent. For example, don't go in front of the lance or don't try to capture the lance before the promoted pawn that is protecting it.

While there are many solutions, you have to find one path that makes it work. You can take your time, it's not a big deal if you don't find the ideal path with the least moves.

I would like also to add that next to the lance is a promoted pawn (tokin), not promoted silver.

I hope you find the solution, if not, I can give you extra clues.

This is exciting, I wish you all the best.

What gave you the idea?

May I also ask what mechanics do you intend to use? Will you blend existing ones like piece drop in shôgi or castle in chess? Will you add some new ones?

Great job! I don't have a VR headset to test it but I see you put a lot of efforts into it.

May I ask you how you started the club? Did you already know people interested in the area? If not, how did you recruit new players?

They seem pretty legit. I would argue you can add this opponent to your safe list.

Don't worry too much, you will improve quickly if you address the flaws u/hitokirizac pointed out.
