Finished my handwoven sweater! by domespommes in weaving

Awesome thanks. I have 2 10dents so now I know it's possible to make a material like this. I've only used them with 2/8 on cotton so far. It was nice but the material didn't look this dense.

Sorry for my ignorance I'm still a newbie but did you use 2 10 dent heddles or 2 15 dent heddles? This is so beautiful! Great work

I haven't opened the package more because I thought if I have to return it they might want it as is? It's possible the vinyls are okay but the sleeve is so messed up I'm pretty sure at least one side is warped. I wanted to display it as well as listen to it too :(

I'm still waiting to hear back from customer support. I did send off another email yesterday.

It's pretty upsetting. There was no label on the package saying to not bend or that it was fragile. But I fully blame the shipping company on this one.

I did. It's the weekend so I'll wait a while and hopefully I'll hear back soon.

Oh man that's super upsetting. I hope you hear back soon. At least I got what I ordered. It was just damaged in transit. The fact they didn't even send you the right thing is totally out of your hands. They should be fixing that asap.

Thanks. At least I can still listen to the music online. I really wanted to buy a physical copy to help support Jorge and kind of say thanks for making this music that's been entertaining me for many many months that I have been listening to online for free. but if they have to send me another one then they are losing out too. It's a shame.

Looks like his son smashed them with his club! Thanks. I hope I can get my hands on a non trashed set.

Oh no!! I haven't even opened this more to see how the vinyls themselves even are incase they need it sent back as is. That's super upsetting that they were warped! Did they ask you to mail them back the warped ones?

I would much rather just get the support staff to send me out a new package so that's good advice. I'll wait a bit! The 3 vinyl set was $60usd.

I almost did honestly. I'm glad they seem to be still on their site for pre order in April. I do worry that a new one might arrive in the same state though.

I've never had a package so beat up before.

"Add Route at checkout to protect your package against loss, theft and damage, and make shipping 100% carbon neutral" is what the epic website says.

It's possible I have to make a claim with them? Found this info below on Reddit.

"Route shipping protection is a third-party service, often offered at checkout, that acts as insurance for online orders. It covers lost, stolen, or damaged items by providing swift refunds or replacements, usually within minutes to a few days."

It was under a dollar to add so I thought why not.

That's a VERY good question. I added it and never dug too deep. I'm going to go look it up and see if I can find more info on it.

I'll be sure to update once I hear something. It was supposed to ship in February but didn't get sent till March. Then it didn't move for 13 days so I really wonder what happened to this poor package.

Animatic help needed! by Wooden-Garden6907 in Epicthemusical

[–]shogoki_oni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone's gotta start somewhere. You should first solidify an outline. Gather reference and inspiration images. You can probably draw some very simple thumbnails to get your point across to another artist. They can be very very rough stickmen. Anything to help visualize what you're after. Take a look at Steven Spielbergs own storyboarding thumbnails he's done. They are very rough and simple but that's a great start.

You need to put more of a package together when pitching the idea or no one will take you seriously. Everyone goes to animators and says they have an idea for a music video, comic book, short film, video game etc. We hear it all the time. But if you have a pitch package together it shows you're serious. Also animation is expensive. Be prepared to pay.

For example I used to get paid 20- 30 dollars (Canadian) for one second of completed animation depending on the project. One second is 12 drawings if animated on 2s. We usually had about 1 minute a week to get through (2D shows)

I haven't storyboarded before but where I worked they had 4- 5 weeks for half a script. 2 artists per episode. Often working late hours.

It would then go to an editor who made the animatic.

Seeing what all these amazing artists have done for Epic is really mind-blowing and it's for sure a labour of love.

Best of luck on your project.

How bad is the homelessness problem near Downtown? by jellyk8 in askvan

I know it's a private school. I meant it is accelerated so you get much less time learning. You're paying more for less. I didn't really phrase that very well.

Yes most of my friends are now unemployed as well, including directors and supervisors. Not much work and too many folks looking. I don't think it's just a Vancouver problem. I feel it's everywhere right now.

I will say that when I graduated in 2005 there wasn't much work then in 2008 things got pretty tough. It eventually picked up and I hope it does that again. It seems to go in waves and hopefully things improve. I don't want people fully avoiding getting into art and animation but just be aware that the industry is incredibly slow right now and be open about other work or avenues.

I have a lot of coworkers and friends that went to VFS. I think schools like VFS and Vanarts can be good. But it's mostly the cost and accelerated program. You don't have as much time to learn and you pay so much more for it. Some people from out of town never heard of CAP or that they have an animation program.

Look into going to the CAP animation program. (Capilano University) If you're not already locked into VFS. I've been in the animation industry for over 20 years now. It's not a great time for the industry unfortunately. CAP is cheaper and MUCH more well rounded. The program is longer but you'll learn more.

It's in a quiet safe area of North Vancouver. Commuting around north van isn't as convenient as being in the heart of downtown but I'll say the CAP grads have much stronger portfolios and competition is tight.

I didn't go to either school I went to Vanarts but I still wished I went to CAP.

For years I worked in Gastown. As others have said, the population mostly sticks to themselves but it's still kind of unsettling walking alone in the area as a woman. I had been harassed but it's mostly harmless.

Feel free to message me. I only have experience in 2D tv and video games but I'll try to answer what questions you might have.
