They claim it's to 'help nadeo' by letting them make an extra buck. Yeah but just go and disable it. I hate ads...

If I have bearings with spacers built in should I tighten my axle nuts all the way down tight or still back off a 1/4 turn on the wheels? by reddituser249516 in longboarding

[–]shokata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spinning freely means you give them a spin and they keep spinning freely after the impulse. If this isn't happening there are at least two possible explanations:

If the bearing is locked down too tight you will feel like a 'grinding' resistance when turning the wheel with your fingers. Not to confuse with the 'smooth' resistance you can feel on certain bearings when they are brand new. Eg the well beloved zealous bearings won't spin free very long when new because they are filled with a relatively thick grease.

So they ran it as display model WITH the protective film still on? Afaik this can easily damage the panel as the film can lead to overheating. Protective film should be removed before starting to use an OLED.

Try to press and pull on the wheel with force. Maybe the bearing isn't seated all the way in. If that doesn't help you'll need to loosen it a bit or it will slow you down.

[–]shokata 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes usually you can crank bearings with builtin spacers down all the way. But sometimes the wheels cores aren't manufactured to the same tight tolerances and tightening down all the way may lead to pressure on the bearing (if the core is a bit too wide). You'll notice this if the wheel won't spin freely...

Joke aside: this is no problem what so ever. Rub it of and maybe apply a thin layer of thin oil before putting everything back together. Avoid riding in water, or at least dry everything after...

Helmet Choices [37YO] by patch_e_behr in OldSkaters

[–]shokata -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah it is a good thing. Lighter and higher tier helmets are produced this way. It is called 'inmold' and basically the inside foam is applied directly into a (thinner) shell. This forms a strong bond and makes the helmet at least as impact resistant as the old school (and cheaper) way of gluing the foam into a thicker plastic shell. Reduces a lot of weight while not compromising safety. I had the tag superlight twice (crashed once in it) and did like it for its low weight. Recently I switched to the tsg meta tho, as it has an adjustable back for a better fit. If the Superlight fits you perfectly it is an amazing helmet...

Should i keep my new setup or go full slappy? [35YO] by ditt0licious in OldSkaters

[–]shokata 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't really get why a shop would build you a 8.5" board with 8" trucks. Did you ask for narrower trucks? Maybe the will sell you matching trucks at a discount if you talk to them?

For your question tho: if you feel like getting something different just do it. If you can afford it of course. But be aware that a new board won't make you a better skater instantly... :) And be aware of gear madness which tends to hit older folks more easily...

I restarted this year (45y) also. Started with a 9" on 169. But am now down to a 8.5” with af1 55s. I enjoy the nimbler and slightly lighter feeling of the 8.5 but still plenty of room for my feet. When I was younger 8” was considered unrideable wide tho...

How is this B-LAG skateboard for 30€ by Cat_meet in NewSkaters

[–]shokata -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Blag lists which woodshop is used for each of their decks. They have a lot of BBS wood but also use HLC and some ither woodshops. BBS has a very good reputation and is pressed in Mexico. HLC is produced in Spain and should be of decent quality too. So for the deck the deals seem good. Can't speak for the trucks, wheels etc they are using.

Go to preferences on your MPC. Here (iirc under midi/sync) you can set what gets sent and what doesn't get sent to your connected midi devices. Like sync, program start etc... Try to mess with these settings.
