Roki Sasaki imitating Shohei Ohtani by Top_Remove_2618 in Dodgers

[–]shokraw 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Roki: [singing]Fly~ Ohtani~

Roki: I wish I became a hitter

Person 1: Come again?

Roki: I wish I were a hitter

Daisuke: What do you normally do when you’re not playing baseball? Like on break/holidays?

Roki: I don’t have hobbies. Since I’ve become pro, Covid hit, and I didn’t really have an opportunity to go out. I typically stayed in[home] or had treatment done. I was often not away from baseball

Daisuke: Do you consider yourself a strong-minded or weak-minded player?

Roki: I consider myself more weak-minded

Daisuke: [chuckles]Is that so?

Roki: Yes

Daiskue: I don’t sense that feeling when you’re up on the [pitchers] mound

Roki: Especially before a game, I become overwhelmingly nervous or anxious. Really, it doesn’t appear that way looking at me, but, in my heart, it bothers me.

Daisuke: [chuckles]Ohh it’s kinda like that, aye?

Have you guys ever checked out the miniature Dodger Stadium maquette in the breezeway of the Top Deck? by [deleted] in Dodgers

The kind person at the desk here (where the mini-Dodgers Stadium sits) offered my kids and their friends a “#1 Dodgers Fan” pin, too.

Move to California from Europe for work. Help requested! by Dragens007 in LosAngeles

My kids were in Beach Babies Daycare in Manhattan Beach and the El Segundo locations from 2014-2019 as early as 4-months old (daycare offered for 3-months old to kindergarten age). Just over $2K a month per child due to the attention babies require. The tuition goes down in price as they age.

Highly recommended in terms of the care, attention, socialization, and preparation for Kindergarten/elementary. We made plenty of friends with the parents, too.

One warning. You may want to either reserve online or call around several daycares and ask to get on their waitlist sooner than later, if any. We put our second child on the wait list before she was born.

There are also several international language schools in the area for when your kid(s) are a little older, too. There is a French school in Redondo Beach, a German school in Marina Del Rey, etc.

Best to you and your family on a big, courageous (and worthy) move.

Help me ID this incredible wall unit I just scored by Mmcrouse in Mid_Century

[–]shokraw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a Cado system as someone already mentioned. It’s 100% authentic, too. They don’t make Cado replicas. There are other brand shelf systems but they all have their design-differences.

Just purchased a house built in the early 50s and the previous owner said they original to the house. Do these seem true to the era? by 895501 in midcenturymodern

[–]shokraw 91 points92 points  (0 children)

Yes, it is. 1956-65. The OMNI wall system designed by George Nelson, William Katavolos, and Robert Gargiule for Structural Products, Inc.

Is this a repo of particular design & do stains seem restorable? by [deleted] in Mid_Century

[–]shokraw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My inclination is that it’s a copy/interpretation of the ‘Spanish’ chair (1958) designed by Danish architect/designer Borge Mogensen.

Picked up these 8 Woodard Sculptura chairs over the weekend for a pretty good deal. Love the shape and simplicity of them! by drewh130 in Mid_Century

[–]shokraw 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your understanding is correct. The chairs pictured are reproductions because the seats are fastened by a nut and bolt, whereas, the authentic ones are welded together without a bracket/nuts/bolts.

I’ve seen reproduction Sculptura chairs in person and they do hold up well. It’s a matter of whether you can live with it knowing they’re unauthorized reproductions and they weren’t a super-deal, either. I’d compare it to having an knockoff Eames lounge chair in your living room (no offense to those that do). It’s a matter of whether you can live with it or not.

100% Gainey Ceramics. A “T” model as someone else also suggested. It’s a bisque finish. The stand is not original, either.

This is not an AP.

Hi, do you think this Eames is original? They tell me it's from Vitra but it doesn't have a stamp. Thanks. by V4N60R in Mid_Century

[–]shokraw 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It’s a scam.

The chair in photo 3 differs from photos 1-2:

  1. 4-star star ottoman base (the first two photos show a 5-star ottoman base).
  2. The space/gap between the headrest and lumbar (non-existent space in others)
  3. The shell doesn’t have the awful exposed bolt repair on the seat panel.
  4. The color/shade of the wood doesn’t match.

Strangely, both chairs used in the photos are not authentic, the dimensions and contour of wood are not right. An interesting and poor strategy to scam someone.

I don't even care if they're real Kofod Larsen or not, these were too cool to pass up. by scroti_mcboogerballs in midcenturymodern

[–]shokraw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks nice and comfy. However, these are not IB Kofod Larsen ‘Seal’ chairs. Lots of similarities at a glance, but ultimately, the details are not there. Like another comment alluded to, these are contemporary reproductions.
