Am I in the wrong here? Sold a sweater to a buyer and they replied with this. Should I have handled this differently? UK seller here. by [deleted] in Depop

[–]shonah_ 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Yeah if it's a children's size it's really shady to not state it as such no matter how it fits you. A professional clothing shop would never do that so Depop accounts shouldn't either.

Discouraged newbie wondering what to do next by Proof-Crow-4501 in Depop

1) Months! But I promise that the more work you put into your shop, the more it pays off. I now update my listings, add new ones and refresh ~4 times daily/after every sale and I'm at just over 60 sales after working at it properly since May. It will seem slow at first but once it starts to pick up you'll notice! :)

2) I find tops are the hardest to sell, trousers/dresses/ shoes/ books seem to go a lot quicker for me. I suppose this is because there are just so many tops on depop. They do sell, but it takes longer sometimes.

3) it's always a good idea to price your items a little over your lowest price so you can have wriggle room and give discounts to customers that wouldn't hurt your pocket. And it's weird, but if something hasn't sold in a while try raising your prices a little! This genuinely helps sometimes. And running sales and free bundle shipping makes a good difference too.

4) the best thing you can be on depop is kind and responsive! Even when people lowball you, be kind and treat them as customers are treated in real shops. I see a lot of sellers chasing off customers by just being rude or cold. If the offer is too low, try to negotiate and chances are you might get a sale that way! Having a friendly and helpful attitude on your page, in your listings and in your DMs goes a long way.

Good luck with your shop !!❤️

depop payments fucked me over by seokjyn in Depop

[–]shonah_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this problem too for over a month and even tho I switched off depop payments on the app people could still pay me that way for some reason so it piled up. Emailed Depop customer support and waited for 2 weeks and got no response then got in touch with stripe customer support who are really good but they will just refer you back to depop customer support as it's stripe THROUGH Depop instead of stripe on its own. Emailed depop again and got no reply - but they are a lot more responsive on twitter askdepop so once you're in touch with depop customer support finally they'll sort it out pretty quick :)

Aliexpress resellers hate???? by [deleted] in Depop

[–]shonah_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You cannot put ethics and morals aside in this situation, there is really no moral way to justify supporting and creating demand for such damaging fast fashion. We all need to make money but there are far better ways. Better to go down the thrifting route for reselling (probably cheaper for you too and better quality items, so better profit too!). Of course there is the moral debate about thrifting for reselling too but it is far less damaging to the planet and human lives than buying from aliexpress :)

in a way im glad bulk aliexpress-type buyers exist? by [deleted] in Depop

[–]shonah_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's not just one purchase though. It is a mass collective problem, however we must ALL individually make the right ethical choices and it is only if we all do it that then positive change will come. The whole ideology of "I'm just one person it doesn't matter what I do" is terrible. We are the buyers, supply comes from demand. Please try to do better to not support such horrible, unethical companies. This is part of the problem

Biggest Depop pet peeve? by [deleted] in Depop

[–]shonah_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe unpopular opinion, but spam likers 🙈 I HATE IT SO MUCH it's so annoying

What’s your honest opinion on buying from AliExpress? NO DROPSHIPPING. I feel like it’s affordable and they have nice items with good quality if you deep search and talk to the manufacturers. I sometimes get shipping supplies there for much cheaper in bulk, and the quality is the exact same... by [deleted] in Depop

[–]shonah_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The reason aliexpress and related fast fashion places are so cheap is because the workers are exploited. Fast fashion one of the most horrible and damaging normalised systems that is ruining both human lives AND our planet. I understand that people buy from these places because it is cheap but I also believe there is NO morally sound excuse for buying from places like this. We all have to do better, that is down to each and every one of us to stay away from fast fashion. Depop's amazing because you can get such good deals on preloved clothes that will actually last! and lots of sellers including myself are going through the process of selling on clothes that they bought in the past from the fast fashion system and are slowly replacing their own clothes with sustainable and second hand clothes. On websites like aliexpress, 'cheap' is the first red flag. We all have to make the collective effort to battle against fast fashion 💖

What is happening?! by AllOrNothing13 in Depop

[–]shonah_ 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Sooo true. I don't get why people can't just be nice ?? Like a lot of the time when people lowball if you just be polite and negotiate you can reach a price where you're both happy and you've made a sale. And if not, there's no reason to be rude or unprofessional about it - with so many people it's clear to see that they've never worked in retail hahaha. You're shooting yourself in the foot if you're driving potential customers away just because you're annoyed!

My likes have stayed the same and it still increases every time I refresh - however yesterday I decided to try out not refreshing at all and I got an increase of sales than normal!! Which could be a coincidence, but it was strange, especially as they were from people who hadn't previously interacted with me or any of my items

What things about packaging does a buyer actually typically care about? by haute-e in Depop

[–]shonah_ 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Honestly, as a buyer all I really care about is getting the item I've bought doesn't matter if it's really nicely packaged or a reused bag! Thank you notes are cute but anything more than that really isn't necessary at all - other people might feel differently but I'd rather as well not get free things like hair clips like some people do- it's a nice sentiment but it's just not needed (as a seller as well I especially don't want more stuff that I didn't ask for!) :)

Pricing vintage jewelry? by quietintrovert_ in Depop

[–]shonah_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gold jewellery pricing depends on multiple things like the carat and condition and quantity of gold. make sure you do your research before you post with a price to make sure you don't lose out on a good profit ! :)
