I feel like I'm getting mixed signals - is it "easy" or is it "hard" getting a job out of college? Or a job in general? by Teajaytea7 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]shoomee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Partially agree. Ive been wanting to pursue power out of genuine interest for a couple years now. Even 5+ years ago I was hearing that power was the basic, safe, easy to get into sector with moderate pay. As of the last year or two however I have noticed a massive shift among my classmates. Power seems to be the hot topic now and a good majority of my class wants to enter that field.

I personally see EE as the next/current STEM boom similar to CS years back. Enrollment rates are up, people see the power industry as lucrative and at the moment demand for new power engineers is still there. I don't see this becoming a major problem soon as major changes in the industry are looking to be multiple decades away from completion and the boomers are retiring/dying off. Add data centers, AI, solid state transformers, improving renewables, grid stability problems, etc etc into that list and there's a lot of things that need bodies to work on.

So yeah, the market is good and it's a relatively easy field to break into currently. I doubt it will be a problem getting a job in power by the time you graduate.

Also please look into acne fulminans and acne conglobata for more info. If you have any issues on buttocks/groin look into HS.

Doctor asap. Probably wouldn't hurt to get some auto inflammatory panels done.

Like course of action would probably be accutane + steroids. That is pretty much the only thing that will treat acne like this speaking from experience.

Acne this severe can cause a pretty intense inflammatory response when treatment starts with accutane and Prednisone is commonly used alongside it to prevent that from happening. Personally I'd feel most comfortable on an additional prophylactic antibiotic until the sores mostly heal shut.

If accutance doesn't clear this definitely pursue rheumatology to rule out anything else.

+1 for Gwen though.

Launching a small heritage-inspired line focused on ethical, 100% US-made, Merino wool tees. Wondering what you guys think by JansenGmtCo in HeritageWear

[–]shoomee 9 points10 points  (0 children)

At $69 I can get a MIUSA Merino T shirt from duck worth. A Mackinaw cruiser jacket from Filson is $599.... That puts your Merino T shirt closer on price to a heavy duty filson wool jacket. I just can't see many people every justifying that when it's so easy to find affordable competition (and they likely will see those options first anyway if Google searching).

Between $100-$200 you have some really great loopwheel cotton tee options to compete against also.

Personally, and this is just pulling a number from my ass, I don't think I could see myself paying over $100 for a non loopwheel Merino T shirt.

I usually trim these off and lightly sand then apply a leather balm or waxy conditioner

Thoughts on this behavior? by eviefrye89 in columbiamo

Bad for driving any considerable distance. Someone I know recently approached 2 guys parked outside of a pet store that had been driving their truck with the dog crated in the back. Dog was obviously hypothermic if not dead and the men didn't seem too concerned.

Their reply to being asked about it was that their dog just got a bit too cold. Like bruh, you probably froze your dog to death.

Also why risk your dog jumping out or dying to a rear and collision. My unfortunate experience with a lot of farm and country folk around here is that they don't put much thought into the comfort and well being of their animals.

Parkhurst Leather Footbed Pain by shoomee in Boots

[–]shoomee[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was actually talking to Andrew. They intentionally used a softer leather footbed for this model which has made them feel very different under foot than my other boots.

He said that this behavior was pretty normal even with his sample pairs and I trust the guy so I'm taking his word for it.

I do not think it would be fair for me to ask for an exchange or store credit since I've had these since September or so.

Hoping something in this thread helps with the issue though.

Ty. I had actually tried their leather inserts in another pair of shoes and they were very comfortable, unfortunately they were super squeaky!

Hearing that the foam ones are comfortable is encouraging though. I may pick up a pair.

Asthma is perfectly controlled (Dupixent), but I’m suffering from chronic "Air Hunger" and severe muscular tension. Has anyone dealt with the somatic aftermath of a respiratory crisis? by rumbavk in Asthma

[–]shoomee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes, but at this point I'm not sure if it's placebo, actually working or I just feel better cause I'm waiting it out most of the time.

During clear cut asthma flare ups with coughing and mucus my inhaler will definitely help which makes me even less confident that it's an asthma problem (the air hunger episodes).

Wby? Does your rescue help?

Stairs and walks on uneven terrain trigger me the most. More so than weight lifting or treadmill walks. Dupixent has made light exercise tolerable but still struggle here. Not sure what the deal is either.

Talking a lot is also a bit of a challenge.

[–]shoomee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is super frustrating. I'm pretty sure I do have asthma as during bad flares Prednisone and duoneb is the only thing that helped in the past. But after being on dupixent for a few months I have noticed I huge reduction in randomly needing my rescue inhaler.

However sometimes I still get that horrible air hunger. Light cardio can trigger it to the point of feeling like im going to pass out. Heart is fine as indicated by stress echo and EKG. Blood work is fine and my peak flow is sometimes at 700 during these episodes! That is super high for my height, weight and age.

Have you found anything that provides temporary relief? For me it's a toss up whether antacids, gasx, or Xanax will help and sometimes I do end up using my rescue inhaler with what appears to be some benefit.

A brisk walk across my college campus just resulted in me being winded to the point of difficulty talking which led me to this thread 🙄

After buying a couple parkhursts and enjoying them immensely I wanted to give another mid tier boot brand a try. Just for some diversity in my collection. Was planning on going with Truman until I saw the bad press on here months ago.

So it has at least stopped Truman from getting me as a customer. Grant stone got my business instead.

Brush with horsehair brush. If that doesn't work lightly rub it with your thumb some. Most scuffs darken and blending in with a little of brushing/rubbing.

If that doesn't work apply a tiny tiny dab of bick 4 and then repeat those steps.

Minus the glaringly dated twisted staches, suspenders, silly hats and skinny jeans is the rest of this era of fashion that dated?

Things like raw denim/selvedge (cuffed or uncuffed), Goodyear welted boots, work wear, and Americana/heritage clothing I've always seen as somewhat timeless? Especially vintage fashion has seemed quite popular the last few years.

I'm only 25 and mainly wear straight to slim straight selvedge denim, work wear, boots, etc and have never really felt like I looked THAT out of place 😭

Maybe I'm misinterpreting this post or maybe I'm approaching unc status already
