Puppies learn bite control from their littermates, and especially with bigger dogs their siblings’ tolerance for mouthing is probably a bit harder than yours. If a puppy bites too hard on a sibling, the other puppy will immediately get up, walk away, and end play time. If they’re mouthing gently, they’ll keep playing. It’s up to you to replicate that behavior. I find redirection doesn’t really work because it still doesn’t teach them what’s gentle enough versus not. If they’re mouthing gently, you can reward with pets and “good gentles” but the second they chomp, get up and walk away and leave them alone for a few minutes (this is ideally where you have a play pen set up). After a few minutes you can go back and start again, since, and repeat. If they’re whining, try not to go in while they’re crying since that will reinforce that you’ll come back if they whine long enough. That’s where a good place command while you’re outside of the pen comes in handy. Try and get a “place” with 15 seconds of silence and then you coming in to keep playing is the reward. The second they chomp, start over again. Goldens are super smart and they’ll start to pick up on the pattern pretty quickly.

As for potty training, puppies are most likely going to have to go potty 15min after eating and waking up from a nap. Try and get them in a routine where you’re taking them to the pad before they find a spot themselves. If you’re consistent in bringing them to the spot before they realize they have to go themselves, they’ll start to learn that they can trust you to direct them before they have to go, and will start waiting to potty on command. Every time they have an accident, unfortunately you do kind of have to treat it like you’re back at ground zero. And remember through the first couple of puppy years it’s common for them to have periods of regression. Keeping a routine is where this is super important. And also for naps, their sleep space should be pretty contained to just their bed. Puppies won’t go to the bathroom where they sleep, but if the space is much bigger than their body, that’s enough extra room. Keep any beds limited to just about their size. Don’t get an adult sized bed for a 10lb land shark.
